Sullivan County Observation Knob Park Introduce
For local users in search of "camping near me" that offers stunning natural scenery and a tranquil lakeside setting, Sullivan County Observation Knob Park, located at 553 Knob Park Rd, Bristol, TN 37620, USA, presents a compelling option. Easily reachable by phone at (423) 878-1881 or mobile at +1 423-878-1881, this campground and park has garnered attention for its picturesque location overlooking South Holston Lake and the surrounding mountains. Reviews from visitors highlight both the exceptional beauty of the area and some practical considerations for potential campers.
The environment at Sullivan County Observation Knob Park is consistently praised as "absolutely incredible" and "gorgeous." The key feature is undoubtedly the breathtaking views of South Holston Lake and the mountains. Imagine waking up to panoramic vistas of sparkling water framed by majestic mountain ranges, creating a truly unforgettable backdrop for your camping experience. The natural beauty of the area offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere, ideal for relaxation and escaping the stresses of daily life. The park's director, Chris, is commended for his work in making this a beautiful place, suggesting ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance the natural appeal of the location. The continuous improvements mentioned in the reviews indicate a commitment to providing an even better experience for visitors.
One of the significant features of Sullivan County Observation Knob Park is its inclusion in the Passport America program. This membership-based program offers discounted camping rates at participating campgrounds, as highlighted by a reviewer who stayed for $18. For Passport America members, this campground presents an affordable option for enjoying the beauty of the region. Local users who are already members or considering a membership may find this to be a valuable benefit when choosing their next "camping near me" destination. It's essential to inquire about Passport America participation and any associated terms or restrictions when booking.
The park's proximity to South Holston Lake is another major draw. Being "right on the water" offers opportunities for various water-related activities, although these are not explicitly detailed in the reviews. Potential activities could include fishing, boating, kayaking, or simply enjoying the peacefulness of the lakeside. The quiet atmosphere mentioned by one reviewer suggests a tranquil environment where visitors can unwind and connect with nature.
However, alongside the positive feedback regarding the scenery and Passport America benefits, some practical considerations are raised in the reviews that local users should be aware of. One reviewer with a 40' motorhome experienced issues with the assigned campsite (A24) being on a significant slant, making it unsuitable for their large rig. While they noted that other sites around 24 were open, this highlights the importance of providing accurate information about site suitability based on the size and type of camping equipment. It is crucial for potential campers to clearly communicate the dimensions of their RV or camper when making reservations to ensure they are assigned an appropriate and level site.
The issue of uneven campsites appears to be a more general concern, as the reviewer stated that "all the sites are not even close to being level," including tent sites. This could pose challenges for both RV and tent campers in terms of comfort and stability. Campers should be prepared to bring leveling blocks or other equipment to mitigate this issue, or inquire specifically about the levelness of their assigned site when booking.
Another important point raised is the narrowness of the drive into the campground. The reviewer described it as "tight" with "inches on each side" for a large rig. This information is crucial for RV owners, particularly those with larger units, to be aware of before traveling to Sullivan County Observation Knob Park. It may require careful maneuvering and could be a concern for less experienced RV drivers. It might be beneficial to inquire about the road conditions and any specific recommendations for navigating the entrance with different sizes of vehicles.
The positive interaction with Tammy, who handled the arrangements for one reviewer, suggests that the staff can be friendly and helpful. However, the discrepancy between the assigned site and its suitability for a large motorhome indicates a potential need for improved communication or site assessment during the booking process.
In terms of promotional information beyond the Passport America affiliation, there are no specific offers mentioned in the provided text. Local users should contact Sullivan County Observation Knob Park directly to inquire about any seasonal specials, group rates, or other promotions that might be available. Given the ongoing improvements mentioned in one review, it might also be worth asking about any new amenities or features that have been added recently or are planned for the future.
For local users seeking "camping near me" with stunning lake and mountain views, Sullivan County Observation Knob Park offers a picturesque setting and the potential for discounted rates through Passport America. However, it is essential to be aware of the reported issues with uneven campsites and the narrow entrance road, particularly for RV owners. When booking, be sure to clearly communicate the size of your camping equipment and inquire about the levelness and accessibility of your assigned site. Despite these considerations, the beauty of the location and the potential for a tranquil lakeside getaway make this park a worthy option to explore for your next camping adventure in the Bristol, Tennessee area.
To make the most of your stay, consider bringing leveling equipment for your RV or tent, and be prepared for a potentially tight drive into the campground. Contact the park directly at (423) 878-1881 or +1 423-878-1881 to discuss your specific needs and preferences, inquire about site availability and conditions, and learn about any current promotions or recommendations for navigating the park with your vehicle. Embrace the opportunity to experience the "absolutely incredible" beauty of Sullivan County Observation Knob Park and the scenic wonders of South Holston Lake.

Sullivan County Observation Knob Park Reviews
Observation Knob Campground and Park is absolutely incredible!!! The entire place is gorgeous! The Park director Chris has done an exceptional job of making this a beautiful place to come and spend time with family and friends. The continous improvements are amazing and are adding to the experience for everybody! There truly isn't a bad campsite in this park. You have views of South Holston lake and the mountains, absolutely breathtaking!!!! I would highly recommend booking a stay at this campground, you definitely won't regret it!!!
Jun 13, 2024 · Carrie CarterWe stayed here because they are part of Passport America. So we stayed for $18.My wife made the arrangements through Tammy. She was extremely nice. They were closing at 3pm and Tammy had told us we are in site A24.When we arrived, I was shocked that she would tell us to take that site. She knew we have a 40' motorhome. The site was on a 15 degree (minimum) slant! The sites all around 24 were wide open.I had to go to 3 different sites and plug in until I found one with the electric hooked up.It is a beautiful location. But all the sites are not even close to being level. And that includes the tent sites. The drive into the campground is tight. I have never seen a road so narrow. You literally have inches on each side of your rig before the tires are touching the paint. They are right on the water. It is very quiet. If I was given a site that was almost level, I'd stay here again for the $18.
Aug 17, 2023 · Jimmy OVery friendly staff. Beautiful views of the mountains and south Holston lake. Rv sites right on the water.Great area for fishing. One downside, the dump station was under repair, so had to use the backup one and it was a little awkward trying to pull up to it.
Oct 25, 2022 · Charles HenningI love this place! Beautiful, lake-front, spacey sites. 30 amp hookups. Water hookups. Sewer on grounds but not on sites. On South Holston Lake! Need some peace?
Sep 03, 2023 · K MWe recently had a 4 day stay here and although our stay was less than ideal due to some camper issues and our 10 month old getting sick, the campground was great. Great view of the lake. A nice playground for kids. A new looking dog park. What staff we did interact with was very friendly and informative! The bathhouse was a little dated but the water was warm with good pressure. The bathhouse closest to our site only had one shower but we never once waited in line for a shower. There was not a public “beach” but you can swim in the lake. The only two draw backs we had was there was a lot of goose poop through the grassy areas and on the road which made it a little harder for kids to play in grass! (I understand geese live at lakes) The second draw was the road coming into the facility from I-81 was pretty narrow. Both issues are not the campgrounds fault. Hope this helps a future camper!! Happy Camping
