Swan Lake Campground & Resort Introduce
If you're searching for "camping near me" in the Pengilly, Minnesota area, Swan Lake Campground & Resort presents a lakeside option with recent, contrasting feedback from visitors. Situated on the shores of Swan Lake, this campground and resort aims to offer a family-friendly environment with access to various water-based activities. To provide an objective introduction based on the available reviews, we will explore the positive aspects highlighted by some guests alongside concerns raised by others, allowing you to form your own informed opinion.
A Setting on Beautiful Swan Lake:
The primary draw of Swan Lake Campground & Resort is its location on Swan Lake. One positive review describes the lake as having "clean water with the lily pad," suggesting a pleasant environment for swimming and enjoying the waterfront. Lakeside campgrounds often offer a unique appeal, providing opportunities for relaxation, water sports, and enjoying natural scenery. The presence of a lily pad could indicate a natural and potentially interesting ecosystem to observe. The direct access to the lake is undoubtedly a significant feature for those seeking a water-centric camping experience.
Positive Experiences with Staff and Facilities:
One recent visitor shared an "amazing weekend" experience at Swan Lake Campground & Resort, specifically praising the "super friendly staff" who were described as "VERY helpful!" Positive interactions with campground staff can greatly enhance the overall camping experience, contributing to a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. Furthermore, this reviewer highlighted the exceptional cleanliness of the facilities, stating that "Bathrooms & Showers were extremely clean!" Clean and well-maintained restrooms and showers are crucial amenities for any campground, and positive feedback in this area is a significant indicator of good management and care.
Family-Friendly Features and Complimentary Activities:
For families with children, Swan Lake Campground & Resort appears to offer appealing features. The positive review mentions that "Kids loved the clean water with the lily pad." Additionally, the campground provides complimentary recreational equipment, including "free kayaks and paddle boat." These free amenities can add significant value to a family vacation, offering enjoyable activities without additional costs. Kayaking and paddle boating are excellent ways to explore the lake, get some exercise, and create lasting memories. The availability of these free options suggests an effort to provide entertainment and enhance the guest experience.
Concerns Regarding Recent Changes Under New Ownership:
In contrast to the positive review, another recent visitor expressed significant dissatisfaction with Swan Lake Campground & Resort following its acquisition by new owners. This review states unequivocally that the campground "is now the worst campground in the area!" and that "The campground has declined terribly and is not a family friendly place." Such strong negative feedback raises serious concerns about the current state of the resort. The reviewer explicitly aims to "save families from spending money and time expecting a relaxing experience!" and claims that "Many people feel the same way!" This perspective suggests a potentially widespread negative shift in the campground's quality and atmosphere under the new management.
Areas of Potential Decline:
While the negative review doesn't specify the exact nature of the decline, the statement that it is "not a family friendly place" could imply various issues. These might include changes in rules or enforcement, a decrease in the quality or maintenance of facilities, a less welcoming or less helpful staff, or perhaps a change in the overall atmosphere of the campground. The stark contrast between the positive and negative reviews highlights a period of significant change and suggests that the experience at Swan Lake Campground & Resort may be inconsistent depending on when visitors stayed and their expectations.
Navigating Conflicting Feedback:
When considering Swan Lake Campground & Resort based on this information, it's crucial to acknowledge the conflicting recent experiences. The positive review points to a well-maintained campground with friendly staff and enjoyable free amenities, while the negative review paints a picture of significant decline and a non-family-friendly environment under new ownership. Potential visitors should be aware of these differing perspectives and might want to seek more recent feedback from a variety of sources to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the current situation.
Inquiring About Current Conditions and Potential Promotions:
Given the contrasting reviews, it would be particularly prudent for prospective guests to contact Swan Lake Campground & Resort directly to inquire about the current conditions, amenities, and any recent changes. You can reach them by phone at (218) 256-4573 or via their mobile number at +1 218-256-4573. Speaking with the current management may provide insights into any improvements or address any concerns raised in the negative feedback. It's also an opportunity to ask about any current promotional offers or seasonal packages that might be available. Understanding the current state of the campground directly from the source is essential for making an informed decision.
Considering Swan Lake Campground & Resort for Your Next Trip:
Swan Lake Campground & Resort offers a lakeside location in Pengilly, MN, with the potential for a pleasant camping experience, as indicated by one recent review highlighting friendly staff, clean facilities, and free watercraft. However, it's equally important to consider the serious concerns raised by another recent visitor regarding a decline in quality and a non-family-friendly atmosphere under new ownership. Potential guests should weigh these contrasting viewpoints and actively seek current information to determine if this campground aligns with their expectations for a relaxing and enjoyable getaway. Due diligence in gathering the most up-to-date feedback will be key to a satisfactory experience.

Sep 02, 2024 · Johana FrancoThis campground was bought by new owners and is now the worst campground in the area! The campground has declined terribly and is not a family friendly place. Just trying to save families from spending money and time expecting a relaxing experience! Many people feel the same way! Kind regards
Apr 29, 2025 · Dan EdwardsWe are seasonal campers at Swan Lake Campground. This campground is very family friendly! We have a young daughter and the fun and experiences at the campground are priceless!! Very clean amenities, wonderful sandy beach! Very nice swimming area with a great fishing off the dock!! Cannot say enough about the owners and other campers 😊❤️ Such a great place🥇🥇
Jul 23, 2022 · Dan EdwardsI have family that are seasonal campers at Swan Lake Campgrounds so I have been visiting from AZ for nearly 15 years now. It truly is a great place to make family memory’s.The swimming beach isn’t that great but we make do. Several times we would have leeches on us after a swim. The water out of the tap is disgusting! I don’t care how it was inspected or who inspected it, it smells so bad you can’t shower in it.The friendly new owners are great to your face but be careful, they are backstabbers. They sit around with you chatting like they are your friend but they aren’t.My family, along with a couple other campers, all got letters saying their leases won’t be renewed next year right after they all sat around a fire one night celebrating a couple birthdays at 10:22 pm. The camp site “quiet time rule” is 11pm. We have always respected the “quiet time rule” as we have a young daughter too.Because their leases won’t be renewed, they have to have their campers removed from the property by October 1st. My brother had added an addition, a sun porch, to the camper that ran the whole length of it with eight 2x4 windows facing the lake. Because of the addition, you can’t back up a truck to it & pull the camper out. My sister-in-law asked if she could sell her place to new people, that way the owners would have new people leasing & she wouldn’t have to tear down everything they built. It would be a win/win for both parties but the owners said no. She has to have everything out & off the property by October 1st. She is a widow, my brother recently passed away. It will be a huge undertaking. It just doesn’t say much for the kind of people the new owners are. It wouldn’t cost them a dime to allow her to sell her place. The new owners didn’t say why or give any kind of explanation of what the reason was for not renewing, maybe their campground really isn’t a good place to make family memories. When you can’t sit around a fire with your friends at 10:22pm, maybe you shouldn’t celebrate your birthday at a campground, at least, not at Swan Lake Campgrounds!I sure hope they find a new campground with a better beach so they can start building some family memories that will remain forever fabulous family memories! I’m looking forward to my next visit from Arizona to be apart of those memories at a different campground.
Aug 17, 2023 · Cleone Zunich-BowenMy family and I recently spent a week at Swan Lake Cabin and resorts in Pengilly Mn. We loved our cabin and how close a tent site was. We have a big family, 7 kids so having the tent close to the cabin was really nice. It was a really quiet relaxing place and they have everything you need to enjoy the stay. Paddle boats and kayaks and a really nice lake. The site is also very pet friendly so both our dogs were able to come with us. We come to the area every year and will definitely stay here again.
