Within the "camping near me" category, Topeka Hilltop Campground is described as a "very quiet park set in the country," making it potentially attractive to those seeking a peaceful retreat away from the city's hustle and bustle. Its location just a few miles outside of Topeka offers a balance of rural tranquility with convenient access to urban amenities. Let's delve into the environment, services, and features, while also noting some of the feedback regarding their policies.
The Environment: Quiet Country Setting with Shade Trees
Topeka Hilltop Campground is situated in a rural area just outside of Topeka, suggesting a landscape characterized by open spaces and a quieter atmosphere compared to more urban campgrounds. One reviewer notes the presence of "large trees" that "provide plenty of shade," which is a significant benefit, especially during the warmer months in Kansas. The country setting implies a more natural environment, potentially with views of the surrounding landscape and opportunities for enjoying peace and quiet. While specific details about nearby natural attractions are not provided, the description paints a picture of a serene location ideal for relaxation. For those prioritizing a quiet and shady spot in their search for "camping near me," Topeka Hilltop Campground seems to fit the bill.
The mention of it being a "hilltop campground" in its name also suggests that it might offer some elevation, potentially providing nice views of the surrounding countryside. However, the reviews do not elaborate on this aspect.
Services and Amenities: Pool, Wi-Fi, and Hookups Available
Customer reviews provide insights into some of the services and amenities offered at Topeka Hilltop Campground:
- Swimming Pool: One reviewer highlights the "awesome" pool, noting that it is "much deeper than most RV parks," which could be a significant draw for those looking to cool off during their stay.
- Wi-Fi: "Good Wifi" is mentioned, which is important for many travelers who wish to stay connected.
- Hookup Sites: The campground offers "full hook up sites" (presumably including water, electricity, and sewer) as well as "water/electric sites," catering to different types of RVs and camping needs.
- Bathhouse: A bathhouse is available, described as "dated, functional, and reasonably clean but shows the stains of age." This suggests that while the facilities are usable, they might not be the newest.
One notable point from a review is the apparent lack of an online presence ("the fact that it's 2024 and a company doesn't have a website is probably a red flag"). This might make it harder for potential visitors to find detailed information or photos of the campground.
Features of the Campground: Quiet Atmosphere and Long-Term Guests
Several features stand out based on the customer feedback:
- Quiet Park: The campground is described as "very quiet," which can be a major advantage for those seeking a peaceful camping experience.
- Monthly Guests: The presence of "many monthly guests who are working in the area for a few months" suggests that the campground accommodates longer-term stays, possibly indicating a stable and perhaps community-oriented environment.
- Friendly and Accommodating Owners: One reviewer found the owners to be "friendly and accommodating," which can greatly enhance the guest experience.
- Cats in the Park: While a previous concern about cat odor seems to have been addressed, the presence of cats in the park is noted. This might be a consideration for those with allergies or strong preferences.
However, one significant point of concern raised in a review is the booking policy, particularly for longer-term stays. The reviewer looking to book several months in advance for a work contract was told there is "no advance booking or reservation option" and was advised to call closer to the dates, with no guarantee of availability. This "keep your fingers cross approach" was deemed "off putting" and might be a crucial factor for those needing to plan long-term accommodations.

Aug 22, 2022 · John DaleI called to inquire about availability from May to August for a work contract. The lady who answered the phone was a little lackluster in phone etiquette and instructed me to call closer to the dates I would need to see if she had availability. Apparently, there is no advance booking or reservation option. I was told that even though she had three spots right now (4/9) that they may or may not be there next month and "probably won't be". She didn't seem super interested in having a guaranteed customer book in advance. Anyone who does contract work knows you can't fly by the seat of your pants when booking long term sites for work, so the "keep your fingers cross approach" was really off putting. I won't bother with contacting them again. Also, the fact that it's 2024 and a company doesn't have a website is probably a red flag in and of itself.
Apr 09, 2024 · Ashley RomansThe hostess of the place took my reservation and said I did not need money down to hold the spot. The very next day I called to check and see if I was still good to go on Monday and they told me that they had rented it. The lady is very rude and the place look kind of dirty. I would not stay there if I did not have to. The only reason I gave it one star is because I could not give it a no star.
Apr 20, 2024 · Barbara MurrayDisappointed, we had callled and stated that we had Passport America so the tent rate should have been $10, camp manager charged us $15. Did not even acknowledge that they participated with Passport. Grass in tent area had not been mowed for months, dirty restrooms, had to drive on a rough gravel road for over a mile to get there. You decide!
May 31, 2024 · D WLovely owner. Very well maintained. Clean pool. Sites are very close and there are many permanents. We had a problem with the electric fuse upon arrival but Lee had it replaced immediately. Really no complaints. Definitely worth a stay! We were on site 1 in a 42’ class a. Great price and great water pressure! Extremely accommodating!
