Travel Camp Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" within or near Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in Washington State? Travel Camp, located at Nco Beach Rd, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA 98433, USA, offers a unique camping experience with a range of amenities and a secure, on-base setting. You can contact them at (253) 967-7744 or +1 253-967-7744 for inquiries and reservations. Please note that access to Travel Camp is likely restricted to military personnel, their families, and possibly other authorized individuals due to its location on a military installation.
Based on customer reviews, Travel Camp presents a blend of convenience and natural beauty. One reviewer noted that while the campsites can be "fairly packed in," the environment is "surprisingly quiet." This suggests that despite potentially close proximity to other campers, the campground maintains a peaceful atmosphere, allowing for a relaxing stay.
However, this reviewer also pointed out a potential inconvenience for RVs related to the campground's road layout. The "fully winding road" leading to and from the RV spots was described as "a little weird" and "a little frustrating." RV owners, especially those with larger rigs, should be aware of this potentially circuitous route within the campground.
On a more positive note, the same reviewer highlighted the "beautiful view of the lake," indicating that Travel Camp benefits from a scenic waterfront location. This amenity likely enhances the overall camping experience, offering opportunities for enjoying the water and the surrounding landscape.
Another reviewer provided a more comprehensive overview of Travel Camp's offerings, describing it as a "very nice place to camp." A significant advantage mentioned is that "most spaces are full hookups," catering well to RV travelers who require water, electricity, and sewer connections at their sites. This feature adds a level of convenience and comfort, making it suitable for longer stays or those who prefer the amenities of their RV.
Beyond RV sites, Travel Camp also offers "cabins" and "tent areas," expanding its appeal to different types of campers. The availability of cabins provides a more sheltered and potentially more comfortable option than tents, while designated tent areas cater to those who prefer a more traditional camping experience. The inclusion of "laundry areas" is another valuable amenity, especially for longer stays, allowing campers to maintain their hygiene and pack lighter.
The location of Travel Camp is particularly noteworthy. It is situated "right next to the MWR rental facility," which likely provides access to various recreational equipment and services offered by the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) program on JBLM. This proximity could be a significant benefit for campers looking to engage in outdoor activities or utilize rental equipment.
Being "on base and secure" is another key feature of Travel Camp. This on-installation location provides a level of security and peace of mind that might not be found at civilian campgrounds. However, as mentioned earlier, access to JBLM and therefore to Travel Camp is typically restricted to authorized personnel.
The reviewer also noted that the "spots are easy in and out," which directly contradicts the previous reviewer's comment about the winding roads. This discrepancy might suggest that certain sections or types of campsites have better accessibility than others, or it could reflect different experiences based on the size or type of RV. The reviewer with a 40 ft Class A RV specifically stated having "no troubles," indicating that larger rigs can be accommodated in at least some of the sites.
Regarding cost, this reviewer mentioned that Travel Camp's rates are "a little higher than most for a FamCamp" (a family-oriented military campground). However, they also pointed out that it is "still much better than a commercial site," suggesting a good value proposition considering the amenities and secure location. The reviewer concluded by stating, "I will be back here again," indicating a positive overall experience and satisfaction with Travel Camp.
Considering the category "camping near me," Travel Camp at JBLM serves a specific segment of the local population – those affiliated with the military community. For eligible users, it offers a secure and well-equipped camping destination with full hookups for RVs, cabin rentals, and tent areas. The presence of laundry facilities and its proximity to the MWR rental facility add to its convenience and appeal.
The beautiful lake view mentioned by one reviewer enhances the natural environment of the campground, providing a scenic backdrop for camping activities. While one reviewer noted a potentially inconvenient road layout for RVs, another with a large RV reported easy access to their site, suggesting that experiences may vary depending on the specific location within the campground.
While no specific promotional information was provided in the reviews, the positive feedback, especially regarding the full hookups, variety of accommodation types, and secure location, serves as a strong indication of Travel Camp's value for its target audience. The slightly higher cost compared to other FamCamps is seemingly justified by the amenities and the peace of mind of being on a military installation.
For local users within the JBLM community searching for "camping near me," Travel Camp offers a unique and convenient option. Its full hookup RV sites, cabins, tent areas, laundry facilities, proximity to MWR rentals, and secure on-base location make it a compelling choice for a variety of camping needs. While potential RVers should be mindful of the reported winding roads within the campground, the overall positive experiences and the beautiful lake view suggest a worthwhile camping destination for eligible individuals and families.

Travel Camp Reviews
Fairly packed in, but surprisingly quiet. The way the road is set up is a little weird for RVs, and a little frustrating to have to drive a fully winding road to get to your RV or to get out of the camp area. Beautiful view of the lake.
Apr 03, 2025 · Lexus ReighVery nice place to camp. Most spaces are full hookups, there are cabins, tent areas, and laundry areas. Its right next to the MWR rental facility, its on base and secure, and the spots are easy in and out... i have a 40 ft Class A and had no troubles. Cost is a little higher than most for a FamCamp...but, still much better than a commercial site. I will be back here again
Mar 30, 2022 · Jay BodamNice camp ground along American Lake for trailers and tents. Cabins are also available with different rooms sizes from studio to I believe 2 bedrooms. Be sure to reserve in advance during summer, it can be as busy as any other popular camp ground. Only downside side for the cabins is the lack of AC units; however, fans are available and builtin space heaters for the cooler seasons.
Jul 31, 2022 · Lamarr MStayed here to be close to family in the area. In fact our daughter and family camped in the spot next to us. Beautiful little RV park and tent camping right on American Lake. Very reasonable and quiet. Will definitely stay there again. If you can access the gate and need something in that area give it a shot. Only downside for us is they don’t really do much maintenance on the lots in between visitors but ours was ok. I would’ve given 5 stars except for that.
Aug 21, 2021 · Larry ShipmanNice campground, we’re in site 208 for 3 nights and although it looks small, we have some space from other sites so it’s a great location. $1 for laundry, lots of recreational rentals, cabins on lake, good place for families. Lucky to get on short notice, thank you!
