Uncle John's Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in Ohio that offers a chance to connect with nature and perhaps capture some stunning wildlife photography? Uncle John's Campground, located at 5426 Vess Rd, Glenmont, OH 44628, USA, might be a place to consider. You can reach them by phone at (419) 994-5156 or their mobile number, +1 419-994-5156. Based on the limited reviews available, Uncle John's Campground seems to be appreciated for its natural environment and the owner's dedication to maintaining the property. However, one review also raises a significant concern regarding management and payment procedures.
Environment and Atmosphere:
One reviewer notes that "Uncle John is an institution in this area" and praises him for taking "great pride in his place" and keeping things "clean and tidy." This suggests that the campground benefits from an owner who cares about its upkeep and the overall environment experienced by visitors. The cleanliness mentioned is a significant positive for those seeking a comfortable outdoor stay.
Another camper, a photographer, enthusiastically recommends Uncle John's for wildlife viewing. They state, "If you want to see wild life, this is the place." Specifically, they mention frequently seeing deer on the road leading into the campsites. Additionally, they point out the presence of an eagle's nest nearby, with occasional sightings of the eagle overhead, and an abundance of songbirds. This makes Uncle John's Campground a potentially ideal destination for nature lovers and photographers looking for "wildlife camping Ohio" or "nature camping Ohio" in their "camping near me" search.
Services and Amenities:
The available reviews provide limited information about the specific services and amenities offered at Uncle John's Campground. However, we can infer a few things:
- Cleanliness: As mentioned, the owner is reported to keep the place "clean and tidy," suggesting a basic level of care for the campground's upkeep.
- Wildlife Viewing Opportunities: The frequent sightings of deer, eagles, and songbirds can be considered a natural amenity, particularly appealing to certain types of campers.
- Cash-Only Policy: One review explicitly states, "It's cash only," which is an important piece of information for potential visitors to be aware of.
The lack of detailed information about other amenities such as restrooms, showers, fire pits, or specific campsite features makes it challenging to provide a comprehensive overview of the services. Local users interested in these aspects might need to inquire directly with the campground.
Features and Highlights:
- Wildlife Abundance: The opportunity to see deer, eagles, and various songbirds is a unique feature that sets this campground apart for nature enthusiasts.
- Clean and Tidy Environment: The owner's pride in maintaining the cleanliness of the campground is a notable positive.
- Established Presence: The description of "Uncle John" as an "institution in this area" suggests a long-standing and perhaps locally well-known campground.
Potential Drawbacks:
One review recounts a very negative experience related to payment and management interaction. According to this account, after paying for one night (as it's cash only and their group needed to go to an ATM), they returned the next morning to pay for the additional stay but found no one at the front. After leaving to go canoeing and returning later, they were allegedly confronted at their site and told to leave immediately ("gtfo") with the threat of police involvement, even when they offered to pay the outstanding amount. This incident raises significant concerns about the campground's management practices, particularly regarding payment procedures and customer service. Potential visitors should be aware of this reported experience.
Promotional Information:
Based on the positive aspects highlighted in the reviews, Uncle John's Campground could be promoted to local users as a "camping near me" destination that offers a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in nature and observe wildlife. The potential for frequent deer sightings, the chance to spot eagles, and the presence of numerous songbirds make it an attractive option for nature lovers and photographers. The reported cleanliness of the campground is another selling point. For those who value a tranquil setting with abundant wildlife, Uncle John's Campground might be worth considering.
However, the serious negative experience reported by one group regarding payment and interaction with management cannot be ignored. While the campground seems to offer a pleasant natural environment, potential visitors should be aware of the cash-only policy and the importance of clear communication regarding payment and site occupancy. It might be prudent to confirm payment procedures and the presence of staff at check-in and check-out times to avoid any misunderstandings.
In conclusion, Uncle John's Campground appears to be a place where nature thrives, offering excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing in a reportedly clean environment. This could be a significant draw for local users seeking a nature-focused "camping near me" experience in the Glenmont, OH area. However, the concerning account of a negative interaction with management regarding payment suggests that potential visitors should proceed with caution and ensure clear communication about all aspects of their stay. If you are a wildlife enthusiast looking for a potentially peaceful and clean campground, Uncle John's might appeal to you, but be sure to be prepared for a cash-only policy and consider the mixed feedback regarding management.

Uncle John is an institution in this area. He takes great pride in his place and keeps things clean and tidy.If you want to see wild life, this is the place. The road leading into the campsites you can always find deer. There is an eagle's nest nearby and you can find him at times overhead. Also, there are plenty of songbirds for you to hunt down. I am a photographer and I am always taking pictures when I pass through Uncle John's
May 25, 2021 · Brian SilverwoodHas a sign set up camp catch you later. It's cash only so our friends paid for one night said they would be back when we went to an atm. We went up the next morning waiting for an hour and never seen anyone up front...left and went to float down mohican...came back and planned on trying to find the guy to pay only to be met by them at our site telling us to gtfo or they are calling the cops. We offered them the money but they didn't want it.
