US Army Corps of Engineers Introduce
Are you a local outdoor enthusiast searching for exceptional "camping near me" experiences? Look no further than the US Army Corps of Engineers Campground, a truly remarkable destination nestled at 296 Modoc Camp Rd, Modoc, SC 29838, USA. This campground offers an unparalleled setting for those seeking a getaway immersed in natural beauty, with a unique feature that sets it apart from many others: virtually every campsite boasts breathtaking waterfront views.
For inquiries or to make reservations, you can contact the campground directly at (864) 333-2272 or their mobile number, +1 864-333-2272. Speaking with the friendly staff can provide you with the most up-to-date information on availability and any specific requirements for your stay.
What makes this US Army Corps of Engineers Campground so special, as highlighted by enthusiastic visitors, is the sheer abundance of waterfront campsites. Unlike many campgrounds where securing a spot near the water is a matter of luck, here, the primary decision is simply choosing which stunning waterfront view you prefer. Imagine waking up each morning to the tranquil sight and sounds of the water right outside your camper or tent – a truly unique and memorable experience.
The campground caters to a variety of camping setups. For those with smaller campers requiring 30 amp electrical service, there are a limited number of dedicated 30 amp only sites. Importantly, for RVers with larger power needs, the 50 amp sites also include 30 amp plugs, offering flexibility. However, it's noted that the 50 amp sites may cost slightly more per night, so be sure to inquire about the pricing details when making your reservation.
One of the standout features appreciated by many is the generous spacing between most campsites. In several locations, the distance is so significant that you might not even see your neighbors, offering a high degree of privacy and a sense of secluded tranquility. This makes it an ideal location for those seeking a peaceful retreat and a deeper connection with nature. However, if your primary goal is to socialize and meet new people, this layout might not be as conducive to that.
For those traveling with companions or multiple families, the campground thoughtfully provides several dual camping spots. These adjacent sites allow you to camp right next to your travel buddy, with some even sharing a common entry driveway, enhancing convenience and camaraderie. Furthermore, the vast majority of the campsites are pull-through, making setup and departure significantly easier, especially for larger RVs. There are only a couple of back-in sites available. The size of the campsites is also noteworthy, with reviewers consistently mentioning how large they are, easily accommodating even substantial RVs and multiple vehicles. Impressively, a double site is available for those wanting to back two campers in side-by-side on the same site, and there's even a group camping circle, perfect for larger gatherings.
Ample parking space is another significant advantage. Most sites offer enough room for a second vehicle, and some can even accommodate a third vehicle along with a boat trailer. This is particularly beneficial for those planning to take advantage of the waterfront location for boating and fishing activities. The campground's layout across three peninsulas further maximizes the waterfront access and creates a diverse range of scenic views.
Regarding amenities, it's important to note that there are no individual garbage cans at each campsite. Campers are responsible for disposing of their trash at the dumpster located at the front exit of the campground. Additionally, one reviewer noted that the laundry facilities were not operational during their visit, so it's advisable to check on the status of these facilities if laundry is a necessity for your trip.
A recurring concern mentioned by multiple reviewers is the presence of ants. These are described as small black ants that can be found everywhere, both inside and outside campers and tents. While not identified as fire ants, they can still be a nuisance. It's suggested that bringing ant spray or other preventative measures is highly recommended to manage this issue, especially during wetter weather conditions which may exacerbate the problem.
Despite the ant situation, the overall sentiment from visitors is overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the campground as "beautiful" and a "nice campsite." The friendly and helpful staff also receive positive mentions. For those interested in recreation beyond the immediate campsite, the campground offers a playground for children and a convenient boat ramp for easy access to the water. While one visitor experienced a rainy weekend that limited their exploration, these facilities suggest opportunities for outdoor activities when the weather is favorable. The cleanliness of the bathroom facilities is also a plus for many campers.
For senior citizens, the possibility of utilizing a senior park pass to enjoy the stunning waterfront views daily is an attractive prospect, as mentioned by one satisfied camper. This highlights the potential for extended stays and a truly immersive experience in this beautiful setting.
In conclusion, for local residents seeking an exceptional "camping near me" experience, the US Army Corps of Engineers Campground in Modoc, SC, offers a unique and highly desirable setting with its abundance of waterfront campsites. The spacious pull-through sites, options for dual and group camping, and ample parking, including for boat trailers, cater to a wide range of camping needs. While the lack of individual garbage cans and the presence of ants are factors to be aware of, the overall beauty of the location, the friendly staff, and the available amenities like the playground and boat ramp make this campground a compelling choice for your next local camping adventure. Don't forget to pack your ant repellent and prepare to be captivated by the stunning waterfront vistas!

US Army Corps of Engineers Reviews
This is a beautiful campground! 🤩The most unique feature is pretty much every campsite is waterfront! 😮 I've never been anywhere like this before. Usually I'm lucky if I can get something just near the water. Here your decision is which waterfront view would you like??👀😱There's a limited number of 30 amp only sites for people with smaller campers like myself. The 50 amp sites also have 30 amp plugs but they cost a couple dollars more each night. Most sites the neighbors are pretty far away. In some locations. You can't even see the next campsite! So if you like to meet new people, this isn't really the place. 🫣 However, there are several dual camping spots where you could have a travel buddy in their camper in the other site right next to yours. Some of them even share an entry driveway. All of the sites are pull-through except a couple that are back in. And they are very large. I even saw a double site if you want to back two campers in right next to each other on the same site. And a group circle.😲There's plenty of room to park a second vehicle, some of them even a third vehicle, and a boat trailer! 😲All of the sites are spread out on three peninsulas. There are no garbage cans. 🗑️The dumpster is located up front at the exit.I also noticed the laundry🧺 was not operational. 🧐 The biggest issue I had was the ants! 🐜🐜🐜🐜, And they are everywhere, inside and outside crawling on everything 😣. It could be because of the wet weather ⛈️Just beautiful.🤩 I could get used to my senior park pass waking up to a view like this each day 👀
May 17, 2024 · Michael ScottNice campsite. The staff was very friendly. It was a rainy weekend, so we didn't venture out as much as we wanted to. There's a playground and boat ramp. The bathroom was clean. The only slightly negative thing I can say is there's ants everywhere. Not fire ants, those little black ones. Make sure you bring any spray to keep them out 😁.

Jun 03, 2022 · Joan WalkerSo darn beautiful... The only problem was we pulled in for an in route one night stop, woke up and we had ants everywhere. And mean everywhere, even our tow vehicle was covered inside and out. We spent the next two hours try to rid the motorhome of ants. Ran out of spray and used bathroom cleaner for a bit. Then decided to get out of Modoc. We drove to pickup more ant spray and also then sprayed the toad. Drove to our next stop and spent another two or so hours cleaning and spot spraying. This was just too much to deal with. What can I say... Now We have seen others posting about ants everywhere at the campground.CUontheroad
Aug 14, 2023 · Ron “Floridaron” AdamsWhat a beautiful campground! Large lakefront sites that are well maintained. The hosts were friendly but not intrusive. Bathrooms were clean but also the reason for getting only 4 stars. The layout of the bathroom has the door open straight to the shower leaving you feel somewhat exposed. Ants were not a problem since the host suggested that we spray the site prior to setup. This was a great site and we will definitely be back.
