Veterans Memorial State Forest Campground Introduce
For local residents in the Beulah, Michigan area seeking a "camping near me" experience within a natural and potentially serene setting, Veterans Memorial State Forest Campground, located at Beulah, MI 49617, offers an option worth considering. With contact numbers available at (231) 276-9511 and +1 231-276-9511, this campground within the state forest provides access to the beauty of Northern Michigan. While some reviews highlight the spaciousness and natural separation between campsites, others point out the proximity to road noise, an important factor for those seeking ultimate tranquility. The campground also offers unique features like river access, particularly to the Platte River, enhancing its appeal for outdoor enthusiasts.
The environment of Veterans Memorial State Forest Campground is characterized by a significant amount of space and the presence of trees between individual campsites, as noted by a visitor. This suggests a setting where campers can enjoy a degree of privacy and a feeling of being immersed in the natural wooded landscape of the state forest. The abundance of trees likely provides ample shade during the warmer months, contributing to a more comfortable camping experience. However, it's important to consider the reviewer's observation that even the back of the campground is still close enough to the road for vehicle noise to be noticeable. This is a crucial piece of information for those particularly sensitive to sounds of traffic while camping. Despite this, the overall setting within a state forest implies access to a broader natural environment, potentially including hiking trails, diverse flora and fauna, and the general ambiance of a Michigan woodland.
In terms of services and features, Veterans Memorial State Forest Campground offers some notable aspects. One significant feature highlighted in the reviews is the access to the Platte River. One visitor specifically mentioned dropping their kayaks into the river from the campground for a 3.5-hour trip, indicating direct access for water-based recreational activities. This is a major draw for those who enjoy kayaking, canoeing, or simply being near the water. Another reviewer mentioned that a few of the campsites offer views and direct access to the river, suggesting that these particular spots might be highly desirable. While the reviews don't detail specific amenities like electrical hookups, water access at sites, or the availability of restroom and shower facilities, these are typically standard offerings at state forest campgrounds in Michigan. Given the positive mention of spacious sites, it's likely that the basic infrastructure for a comfortable camping experience is in place. To get detailed information on specific site amenities, it's advisable to contact the campground directly.
A unique aspect mentioned in the reviews is the experience of visiting the campground during the winter. One visitor noted having the entire place to themselves during a winter visit. This suggests that the campground may remain open during the off-season, offering a potentially secluded and tranquil experience for those willing to camp in colder conditions. The mention of some sites having views and access to the river could be particularly appealing in the winter landscape as well. However, it's important to note that winter camping in Michigan requires proper gear and preparation due to potentially cold temperatures and snow. The availability of water and restroom facilities during the winter might also be limited, so it's crucial to inquire about off-season services before planning a winter camping trip.
Currently, the provided reviews do not contain any information regarding specific promotional offers or discounts for Veterans Memorial State Forest Campground. As a state-managed facility, pricing is typically standardized, but there might be variations based on residency (in-state vs. out-of-state) or the type of campsite. Local residents interested in camping here should check the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) website for information on camping fees, reservation procedures, and any potential seasonal promotions or special permits that might be available. It's also worth inquiring directly with the campground via phone about any local discounts or off-season rates that might apply.
For local residents in the Beulah area looking for a "camping near me" option that offers spacious and wooded campsites with the added benefit of Platte River access, Veterans Memorial State Forest Campground presents a compelling choice. The opportunity for kayaking and the potential for serene off-season stays are significant advantages. However, the noted proximity to road noise is a factor that potential campers should consider, especially if seeking a completely quiet natural environment. The availability of river-view and river-access sites could be particularly attractive. To make an informed decision, local users should contact the campground directly to inquire about specific amenities, site features, reservation procedures, and any applicable fees or regulations. Checking the Michigan DNR website for additional information about the state forest and its camping facilities would also be beneficial.
To obtain comprehensive details about Veterans Memorial State Forest Campground, including the types of campsites available, specific amenities at each site (e.g., electrical hookups, water access), the availability of restroom and shower facilities, reservation procedures, and any associated fees, local residents should contact the campground directly at (231) 276-9511 or +1 231-276-9511. Inquiring about the best campsites for river access or those located furthest from the road might also help in selecting the most suitable spot. Additionally, checking the official website of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for Veterans Memorial State Forest will likely provide further information about the park's features, rules, and any relevant updates for campers. By gathering this information, local users can plan a well-informed and enjoyable "camping near me" experience at this state forest campground in Beulah, Michigan.

Veterans Memorial State Forest Campground Reviews
Plenty of space and trees between sites. But even the back of the campground is still too close to the road, the noise of cars can be heard.I visited during the winter and had the place to myself. A few of the sites have views and access to the river
Feb 24, 2021 · Malcolm CampWe dropped our kyakks into the Platte River here for a 3.5 hour trip.
Sep 17, 2022 · Mee CoolAbsolutely the best, scored a spot near the river. Perfect for the kids. Vaulted toilets and manual pump driven water(best coffee I ever had was made with this water). Would stay here again and again.
Mar 30, 2024 · Brandy JohnsonBeautiful state park campground. Very peaceful and quiet. Restrooms were very well maintained. Awesome river access with trail and launch/loading dock for kayaking/tubing/canoeing etc. My only complaint is that the place was covered in Poison Ivy . I mean covered. We could not walk anywhere but the roads, kids couldn't play in the woods or extra area on our site. It was awful. Other than that absolutely beautiful rustic style campground.
Jul 05, 2021 · Ashley A (Ash)Rustic Campground. Vault toilets are clean. There is space between sites. Everything you need. The water pump is either a bit underused or needing a re-drill. High rust content on this last visit.
