Wapocoma Campground Introduce
For local residents in West Virginia and the surrounding areas searching for "camping near me" with a focus on peaceful surroundings and good fishing opportunities, Wapocoma Campground, located at 145 Wapocoma Campground Rd, Romney, WV 26757, USA, presents an appealing option. With a history of satisfied visitors and a location that promises riverside tranquility, Wapocoma Campground offers a getaway for both relaxation and angling enthusiasts.
The environment of Wapocoma Campground is consistently described as "peaceful," making it an attractive destination for those seeking respite from the noise of everyday life. Its proximity to a river, as indicated by the positive reviews mentioning "very good fishing" and a "peaceful couple of days near the river," is a significant environmental feature. The sound of flowing water and the natural beauty of a riverside setting contribute to a relaxing atmosphere. The campground offers grassy sites, some with full hookups, which were reported to be mostly level and firm even during light rain. The well-maintained appearance, with neatly mowed grass and generally good condition of the dirt roads within the campground, suggests a cared-for environment. However, it's important to note that the sites are described as "narrow without much space between," which could impact the sense of privacy during busier times.
The services and features at Wapocoma Campground include full hookup campsites, as mentioned by a reviewer who stayed on site 21. Full hookups typically include water, electricity, and sewer connections, offering convenience for RV campers. The availability of grassy sites adds to the comfort of pitching a tent or parking an RV. The campground also offers Wi-Fi, which was reported to work well during a less crowded midweek stay. However, the check-in staff cautioned that the Wi-Fi service can become weak when the campground is full. Other amenities appear to be somewhat limited. The bathrooms were locked upon a reviewer's check-in, suggesting potential access protocols or limited hours during off-peak seasons. There is no laundry facility available at the campground. Water pressure was reported as moderate. Cell service with major carriers like Verizon and T-Mobile was spotty, with only occasional two-bar signals.
A primary feature of Wapocoma Campground is undoubtedly its excellent fishing opportunities. The consistent positive feedback regarding the fishing suggests that the adjacent river is a productive spot for anglers. This makes the campground particularly appealing to local users who enjoy fishing and want a convenient place to camp nearby. The riverside location also offers the potential for other water-related activities, although these are not explicitly detailed in the provided information.
Another key feature is the peaceful ambiance of the campground, especially during off-peak times. Visitors during the first week of May on a Monday and Tuesday experienced a quiet and relaxing stay. This tranquility, combined with the natural riverside setting, makes Wapocoma Campground a desirable escape for those seeking a break from more bustling environments. However, potential visitors should be aware that the campground is "evident that camping would be crowded on summer weekends," which could significantly alter the peaceful atmosphere and potentially strain the available amenities like Wi-Fi.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. However, the repeated positive experiences of long-time visitors and the affordable nature of camping (though specific pricing isn't mentioned in the second review) serve as implicit endorsements. Local users interested in Wapocoma Campground may want to contact the provided phone numbers, (304) 822-5528 or +1 304-822-5528, to inquire about current rates, availability, and any seasonal promotions. It would also be beneficial to ask about bathroom access procedures and the reliability of Wi-Fi during peak seasons.
In conclusion, for local residents searching for "camping near me" and prioritizing a peaceful riverside setting with good fishing, Wapocoma Campground near Romney, WV, offers a compelling option. The availability of full hookup grassy sites caters to RV campers, while the tranquil environment, especially during off-peak times, appeals to those seeking relaxation. However, potential visitors should be aware of the narrow campsites, the possibility of crowding on summer weekends, limited cell service, and the lack of laundry facilities. Contacting the campground directly via the provided phone numbers is recommended to obtain the most up-to-date information on services, pricing, and availability to ensure a satisfying camping experience.

Wapocoma Campground Reviews
Stayed here many times over the years and have always enjoyed it. Very good fishing and a peaceful place to camp.
Mar 08, 2025 · kurt blankenbecklerWe visited on a Monday/Tuesday in the first week of May and enjoyed a peaceful couple of days near the river. Our full hookup grassy site was mostly level and stayed firm during a light rain. The grass was neatly mowed and for the most part the dirt roads throughout the CG were in good condition. Most of the sites are narrow without much space between. We had plenty of elbow room since there were no campers on either side of our site 21. Early in the season and midweek the CG was quiet, but it’s evident that camping would be crowded on summer weekends. The bathrooms were locked when we checked; there is no laundry available; water pressure was moderate. Cell service with Verizon and T-Mobile was 2 bars from time to time, but spotty. The CG offers wifi that worked well for us, but the pleasant woman who checked us in warned that during crowded times service is weak.
May 07, 2024 · angela kWapocoma Campground is family oriented. It's in the country. You can go for walks, hikes, swim in the river. Bring your 4 legged furbabies with you, as they're most welcome.Make sure you bring cash or check to pay your site fee, as they don't accept credit cards. Also, bring some DVDs as we could only pickup 2 channels and not very well. No wifi and some people with us had trouble receiving phone calls. So if you're looking for peace and quiet and want some downtime for wifi, it's the place for you.One thing I'll say about getting to the campground is part of Rt. 50 has some 7 to 9% grades with twists and turns. So make sure you have good brakes and it's only a 2 lane road in parts.
