Waupun Park Introduce
Looking for a tranquil "camping near me" experience right here in Wisconsin? Consider Waupun Park, situated at 825 County Park Rd, Waupun, WI 53963, USA. This campground offers a serene environment and essential amenities for local campers seeking a peaceful getaway in nature.
Waupun Park is described by visitors as a "pretty, quiet campground," suggesting a relaxing atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle. The natural environment is characterized by woods and undergrowth, providing ample shade for many campsites. This wooded setting contributes to the park's beauty and offers a cooler camping experience, especially during warmer months. The presence of a nearby river further enhances the natural appeal of the location.
While the campground doesn't offer water hookups directly at each site, potable water is readily available for campers' needs. This ensures that you can easily access drinking water and water for other essential uses throughout your stay. Each campsite is equipped with electricity, offering convenience for powering lights, charging devices, and running other electrical appliances. The availability of both 30 amp and some 50 amp service caters to different types of camping setups, from tents to larger RVs.
One significant aspect highlighted in the reviews is the presence of mosquitoes. Due to the wooded environment, undergrowth, and the proximity of a river, mosquitoes can be quite prevalent, especially during certain times of the year. Campers who have visited Waupun Park strongly recommend bringing insect repellent and suggest that screen tents can be very helpful for enjoying the outdoors comfortably, particularly during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are typically most active. This is an important factor to consider when planning your visit, especially during the warmer seasons.
Despite the mosquito issue, many visitors find Waupun Park to be a pleasant destination. One reviewer mentioned that without the mosquitoes, the park would easily be a 4 or 5-star experience. They noted that while the mosquito situation could be "unbearable" at times, requiring precautions like wearing layers and using masks and glasses for protection, others seemed to manage, likely with the help of strong insect repellent. This suggests that while mosquitoes are a known factor, they might not detract from the experience for all visitors, especially those who come prepared.
In terms of the campsites themselves, reviewers found them to be generally acceptable, although not perfectly level. However, they were deemed "fine" for camping purposes. The availability of shade due to the wooded surroundings is a significant advantage, providing relief from the sun and creating a more comfortable outdoor living space.
The bathroom facilities at Waupun Park are consistently described as clean, which is a crucial aspect for a comfortable camping experience. Notably, the restrooms were also reported to effectively keep mosquitoes out, providing a welcome respite from the outdoor conditions. This attention to cleanliness enhances the overall appeal of the campground.
For families with children, Waupun Park offers a playground, providing a space for kids to play and burn off energy. This amenity adds to the family-friendly nature of the campground.
Connectivity is another practical consideration for campers. According to one review, Verizon cell service works well at Waupun Park, allowing visitors to stay connected if needed. This can be important for safety, communication, or simply staying in touch with family and friends.
The camp host at Waupun Park received positive feedback for being "very nice and helpful." A friendly and helpful host can significantly enhance the camping experience by providing assistance, information, and ensuring a smooth stay for all visitors.
Waupun Park's location is also noted as convenient to town. This proximity allows campers to easily access local amenities, such as grocery stores, restaurants, and other services, should they need them during their stay. This blend of a natural setting with convenient access to urban resources can be a significant advantage for many campers.
In summary, Waupun Park offers local users a quiet and pretty camping option with the benefit of electricity at each site, potable water access, clean bathroom facilities, a playground, and a helpful camp host. The wooded environment provides ample shade and a connection with nature. However, potential visitors should be aware of the significant presence of mosquitoes, particularly during warmer months, and come prepared with insect repellent and possibly screen tents. The campsites are generally level, and cell service with Verizon is reported to be good. Its convenient location near Waupun adds to its appeal. For local campers seeking a tranquil and well-equipped "camping near me" experience, Waupun Park is worth considering, keeping the mosquito situation in mind when planning your trip. Waupun Park Reviews
It's a pretty, quiet campground. They don't have water hookups. Potable water is available. Electricity is available on each campsite. The mosquitoes are plentiful. I believe it's because of the woods, undergrowth, and nearby river. Screen tents are very helpful.
Oct 14, 2020 · Lisa KrauseThis park would be a 4 or 5, but mosquitoes were unbearable. We had to wear sweatshirts, hoods up, masks, glasses to keep them off us to walk the dogs. We couldn’t sit outside. A few folks managed to due it, but I’m guessing the bathed in Off/deet first. Spots weren’t 100% level, but they were fine. Bathrooms were clean and they mostly kept the mosquitoes out of them. Some sites have 50 amp, most have 30 amp. There’s a playground and there’s shade as it is quite wooded. Verizon cell works well. Camp host was very nice and helpful. Located convenient to town.
Aug 03, 2024 · Joanna PahlowGreat campground with clean showers and restrooms. Sites are pretty big and remote for the most part. Some sites are set up backwards had to pull into a back in site for my door to face the correct way
Jun 15, 2019 · Scot DymondGreat campground! All the sites are nice, cheap, bathrooms and showers are very clean and hosts very friendly! Disc golf course is super nice and the city pool is within walking distance. My only minor suggestion would be to put a bathroom, even pit toilets, on the other end of the loop. We were in site 16, TWD the middle, and the bathroom was quite a walk at nite and for the littles. Also, if the hosts had a small ice chest to sell ice, we'd have certainly bought! But overall, we were very pleased and would def come back!
Jun 30, 2024 · Amanda LeBombardIt's a nice little park. There's usually very few campers there. This was Labor Day weekend so there were more. But they've got a nice trail in the woods that it's nice to walk our dog in.I think they have some disk golf out there. But that's not place just outside of town. But feels like the woods
