Waynesboro North 340 Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in the Waynesboro, Virginia area? Waynesboro North 340 Campground, located at 1125 East Side Hwy, presents itself as a potentially convenient option for local campers and RV travelers. Based on recent customer reviews, the campground offers a community atmosphere and some essential amenities, but there are also important considerations regarding its operational hours, waste management, and security that local users should be aware of when making their plans.
When local users search for "camping near me," they seek a balance of location, amenities, safety, and overall positive experience. The reviews for Waynesboro North 340 Campground offer a mixed perspective, highlighting both positive aspects like friendly staff and accommodation for larger RVs, as well as potential drawbacks such as limited office hours, waste management issues, and security concerns. Let's delve into the details to provide a comprehensive introduction for local campers.
Environment and Community Atmosphere:
One reviewer describes Waynesboro North 340 Campground as a "large community," suggesting a potentially social and interactive camping environment. This could be appealing to local users who enjoy meeting other campers and being part of a larger group. The size of the campground implies a significant number of campsites, possibly catering to a mix of short-term and longer-term stays. However, specific details about the natural surroundings, such as wooded areas, open spaces, or proximity to natural attractions, are not provided in the reviews. Local users interested in the scenic aspects of the campground may need to seek further information.
The positive review from a returning customer who has stayed there "a fair amount over the past couple years" indicates that the overall experience can be enjoyable for some. Their repeated visits suggest a level of comfort and satisfaction with the campground, particularly its location relative to where they live. This local proximity can be a significant advantage for those in the Waynesboro area looking for convenient camping options.
Services and Amenities:
The campground offers some essential amenities, including "showers and laundry," as mentioned by one reviewer. These facilities are important for both short-term and long-term campers, providing convenience and comfort during their stay. However, the condition and accessibility of these amenities are not detailed in the reviews. Local users who rely on these facilities may want to inquire about their upkeep and operating hours.
A significant operational aspect to note is that the campground office is reportedly "Closed on Sunday and Wednesday," resulting in "no office support on those days." This could be inconvenient for local users arriving or needing assistance on these days. The lack of on-site staff availability might affect check-in processes, issue resolution, and access to information. It's crucial for local campers to plan their arrival and any potential needs around these office hours.
The availability of Wi-Fi is uncertain based on the reviews. One reviewer who arrived on a Sunday was unable to inquire about it due to the office being closed. For local users who require internet access during their stay, this is an important question to clarify before booking.
A concerning issue raised by one reviewer is the state of the waste management facilities. They noted that "all the dumpsters in our area are full" and expressed uncertainty about when they are emptied. Poor waste management can lead to unpleasant odors and potential health concerns, impacting the overall camping experience. Local users should be mindful of this feedback and consider checking the current conditions if possible.
On a positive note regarding infrastructure, the returning customer mentions that the campground can "accommodate our 35ft 5th wheel with no problem at all." This indicates that the campground has sites suitable for larger RVs, which is a significant factor for local RV owners seeking nearby campgrounds.
Features and Considerations:
The primary feature of Waynesboro North 340 Campground for local users might be its proximity to Waynesboro, offering a convenient camping option close to home. This can be particularly appealing for weekend getaways or for those who want to be near local amenities and attractions while still enjoying a camping experience.
The "large community" aspect suggests a social environment, which can be a positive feature for those looking to connect with other campers. However, it might also imply a potentially less private or secluded experience compared to smaller campgrounds.
The ability to accommodate larger RVs is a key feature for local RV owners, providing a nearby option that can handle their size requirements.
However, the serious security concern raised by one reviewer cannot be overlooked. They reported that a "hub cap was pried off our rim" with evident "pry marks." They also noted that the office, when contacted, seemed "not too concerned" about the theft. This lack of concern for guest property security is a significant issue that local users should be aware of and take precautions against, such as being vigilant with their belongings.
The mixed reviews highlight the importance of considering both the positive experiences of some visitors and the negative experiences and concerns raised by others when evaluating this campground.
Promotional Information and Local Appeal:
The provided reviews do not contain any specific promotional offers or mention any special events at Waynesboro North 340 Campground. However, the repeated positive experience of a local customer who has stayed there multiple times serves as a form of positive word-of-mouth promotion, particularly for other residents of the Waynesboro area.
For local users searching for "camping near me," the campground's proximity to Waynesboro is a key element of its local appeal. It offers a nearby option for those wanting a camping experience without traveling long distances.
The fact that it can accommodate large RVs makes it a valuable resource for the local RV community.
However, the negative feedback regarding office hours, waste management, and security are crucial points that potential local users need to consider and potentially inquire about before making a booking.
Local "camping near me" platforms might list Waynesboro North 340 Campground highlighting its location and RV accommodation capabilities. However, they should ideally also reflect the mixed reviews and potential concerns regarding office hours, waste disposal, and security to provide an objective overview for users.
Recommendations for Local Campers:
Based on the available information, local users considering a stay at Waynesboro North 340 Campground should:
- Plan Around Office Hours: Be aware that the office is closed on Sundays and Wednesdays, which might affect check-in and support.
- Inquire About Wi-Fi: If internet access is important, confirm its availability and any associated costs.
- Assess Waste Disposal: If possible, check the condition of the dumpsters upon arrival or inquire about their emptying schedule.
- Be Vigilant About Security: Take extra precautions to secure your belongings due to the reported theft incident and the lack of concern from the office.
- Consider RV Accommodation: If you have a large RV (up to 35ft 5th wheel), this campground can likely accommodate you.
- Weigh the "Community" Aspect: Decide if a potentially social camping environment aligns with your preferences.
- Inquire About Amenities: If showers and laundry are essential, ask about their condition and operating hours.

Waynesboro North 340 Campground Reviews
Closed on Sunday and Wednesday so no office support on those days. It is a large community and though I didn't use them they have showers and laundry. Don't know about wifi because we arrived on Sunday and no one was here to ask. All the dumpsters in our area are full, don't know when they are emptied. Watch your stuff when here, a hub cap was pried off our rim, the pry marks are evident. So if you stay here be alert. Called of office and they said sorry, not too concerned that someone stole our hub cap.
Apr 28, 2025 · Brenda KendrickWe have stayed at this campground a fair amount over the past couple years due to its proximity to where we live. We have always loved the experience, the staff is awesome, and overall just love the place!! They accommodate our 35ft 5th wheel with no problem at all.
Dec 03, 2024 · Stephen WagnerFantastic campground. Great clean pool, super clean bath houses. Fun events and also quiet setting if you want that too!
Mar 06, 2025 · Angela MeffleyWe were able to secure a tent reservation here when all other state and national park campgrounds were full. Friendly, helpful staff. Firewood and ice available as well as a small camp store. Both restrooms were kept very clean. Trick or treating and train car rides for the kids. A rock cover band at night for the adults. I was a little concerned about staying at a family campground (I don't like big trailer park KOAs) but I'd stay here again!
Oct 17, 2024 · Cassandra HiltonBasic nicely maintained campground with full hook ups. Many full time residents. NO WIFI! No ability to make online reservations.
