Westhoff Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking "camping near me" in the Center, Missouri area, particularly those looking for a base to explore Mark Twain Lake, Westhoff Campground, located at 23015 State Hwy EE, Center, MO 63436, USA, presents a unique camping experience. Based on customer reviews, Westhoff Campground offers some distinctive features, although experiences appear to vary.
One reviewer expressed a strong positive sentiment, stating, "I loved this place!!!" They highlighted the friendly atmosphere and the unusual accommodation setup. According to this review, guests have the option to stay in what is described as "like a pole barn" situated within an RV park. This unique structure comes with an attached screened-in room and access to a "huge fire pit with free wood," which are significant perks for those who enjoy outdoor gatherings and a bug-free lounging space.
The screened-in room was particularly appreciated by a parent of young twins, who found it "amazing" for their two and a half year olds. This suggests that this type of accommodation could be especially appealing to families with young children, providing a safe and enclosed outdoor area for them to play and relax.
The proximity of Westhoff Campground to Mark Twain Lake is also a notable advantage, with the reviewer mentioning that it is "only minutes from Mark Twain Lake." This makes it a convenient location for those planning to enjoy the recreational activities offered by the lake, such as boating, fishing, and swimming.
However, not all feedback has been entirely positive. One reviewer detailed a less favorable experience, citing the host as "rude." This review also mentioned instances of other people, including the host and "their clan of permanent campers," randomly walking into the screened-in porch while the reviewer's family was having a BBQ. This intrusion led to an "uncomfortable evening."
Adding to the negative experience, the same reviewer recounted being told "lights out and in bed at 11 pm!!!" by the host at 10:38 PM, even though the group of four was simply "sitting in there talking quietly" and "not being loud." This suggests that there might be strict rules enforced by the host that some guests might find restrictive.
Despite the negative interaction with the host, this reviewer did appreciate the "bunkhouse" and found the screened-in porch "handy" due to intermittent rain. This reinforces the appeal of the unique accommodation and the practical benefits of the screened-in area, regardless of the overall experience with the management.
Another limitation mentioned by the first reviewer was the lack of connectivity, noting "no WiFi" and barely any cell signal, along with no TV. The campground does provide a DVD player with their own DVDs, but this suggests that guests looking for digital entertainment or reliable internet access might find Westhoff Campground lacking in these areas. Therefore, it might be advisable to bring your own DVDs or plan for a more disconnected camping experience.
Based on these reviews, Westhoff Campground offers a unique camping setup with the pole barn structure, a valuable screened-in porch, and a welcoming fire pit with complimentary wood. Its location near Mark Twain Lake is also a significant draw for those wanting to explore the lake and its surroundings. However, potential guests should be aware of the reported issues with the host's demeanor and the strict rules mentioned, as well as the limited connectivity and entertainment options.
To get a more comprehensive understanding of the current services, amenities, and any specific policies, it would be best to contact Westhoff Campground directly at (636) 583-3283 or their mobile number, +1 636-583-3283. Speaking with them can provide clarity on what to expect during your stay and address any concerns raised in the reviews.
In conclusion, for local users searching for "camping near me" with a difference, Westhoff Campground near Mark Twain Lake offers a distinctive option with its pole barn-style accommodation featuring a screened-in porch and communal fire pit. While the proximity to the lake and some of the physical amenities are appreciated, potential visitors should consider the mixed reviews regarding the host and the limitations in terms of connectivity and entertainment. Weighing these aspects will help you decide if Westhoff Campground aligns with your preferences for a local camping getaway.

Westhoff Campground Reviews
I loved this place!!! Everyone was friendly. You stay in like a pole barn in the middle of an RV park that has a joining screened in room huge fire pit with free wood. The only downside is there's no WiFi and you don't get barely any signal along with no TV. They just had a DVD player with their own DVDs...so bring your own. The screened in room was amazing for my 2 and a half old twins!!! Definitely would love to visit this place again, and it's only minutes from Mark Twain Lake.
Sep 28, 2023 · Trisha KnaffThe Host is rude! People walked into the screened in porch randomly while our family was having our BBQ, not just the host but their clan of permanent campers too. It made for an uncomfortable evening and then @10:38 the Host comes into the screened in porch and tells us lights out and in bed at 11 pm!!! What?? There were 4 people sitting in there talking quietly! We were not being loud just talking and laughing with my kids.I loved the bunkhouse and the screened in porch came in handy as it rained on and off all afternoon, but the owners rudeness isn't worth staying here ever again.
Jul 28, 2024 · Jennifer LammeWhy I was overall pleased with the campsite and loved the screened in porch area we were made to feel unwelcomed and the owner came off very rude when she stormed in on my family just relaxing & talking outside, demanded we go inside now and go to bed then slammed the screen door before I could even process who and what just happened at precisely 10:38, yes we were aware "quiet time" was at 11pm but 1. You're early and 2. We were already in an enclosure. We weren't being rowdy or anything simply adults hanging out while the kids were watching a movie and going to bed...ya know on the porch we purchased to enjoy as seen in the pictures offered with this cabin....Then the next morning we were approached 3x and rushed, at one point she told us she needed us to leave as she had to clean for another guest, her bombarding harassment started around 7:30-8am when check out is at 11am, nothing like rushing through a breakfast while cramming around a table, and people standing to eat since we couldn't sit outside because they were constantly walking in and out of the porch area all morning like we weren't still checked in, who does that?! Couldn't even hug and say our goodbyes at the car properly without trying to ignore the side banter, dirty looks and huffs from her and a couple others that I assume to be regulars. We would love for this to be a yearly thing for us and it's sad they treated us so poorly when we were nothing but all around respectful.
Jul 28, 2024 · Elizabeth LammeThe owner was very rude, the other RV people that live there are older an they all are her friends an are not welcoming. Not a place for families. But if ur an older couple may have better luck. Seems that the building we stayed in was all there hangout spot. We felt as if we were a bother the whole time. Will not be coming back.
Jul 28, 2024 · Keep It100The owner came over at 10:38 to let me an my family know that they needed to 'Go to sleep because 11 p.m. was quiet time', then slammed the door on her way out. The owner also lives beside the building and played a movie on a projecter screen super loud 20 feet from the building up to 10:30. Will not be coming back until further ownership.
