Westwood Park Introduce
For local users seeking "camping near me" in the New Castle, Indiana area, Westwood Park, located at 1900 S County Rd 275 W, New Castle, IN 47362, USA, presents itself as a potentially appealing option. Based on the limited but insightful customer reviews, Westwood Park appears to be a "hidden gem" characterized by friendly staff and clean facilities. While one review raises concerns about the lake's fishing and shoreline, the positive aspects suggest a welcoming environment for campers, particularly RV enthusiasts.
One of the most consistently praised aspects of Westwood Park is its staff. A reviewer explicitly states, "They have the friendliest staff!" This positive feedback regarding the staff's demeanor and helpfulness can significantly enhance the overall camping experience. Friendly staff can contribute to a welcoming and supportive atmosphere, making guests feel comfortable and valued during their stay. For those prioritizing positive interactions and assistance when looking for "camping near me," Westwood Park's friendly staff is a notable advantage.
Cleanliness is another key attribute highlighted in the reviews. The same reviewer notes that the "Facilities are always clean!" Maintaining clean restrooms, showers, and other common areas is essential for a comfortable and hygienic camping experience. This positive feedback suggests that Westwood Park prioritizes the upkeep of its facilities, which can be a significant draw for campers who value cleanliness when choosing a "camping near me" location.
For RV campers, Westwood Park appears to take particular care in maintaining its grounds. The reviewer mentions that "The trees are trimmed away from the camp sites so we don’t need to be worried about damage to RV’s." This thoughtful attention to detail demonstrates a consideration for the needs of RV owners, ensuring that maneuvering and parking large vehicles is less problematic and reduces the risk of damage from overhanging branches. This feature makes Westwood Park a potentially attractive "camping near me" option specifically for those traveling in RVs.
Westwood Park is also situated by a lake, which historically seems to have been a significant attraction. One reviewer mentions, "Used to love this lake," indicating that the lake has been a valued feature of the park. Lakes often provide opportunities for various recreational activities such as fishing, boating, and scenic enjoyment. The presence of a lake enhances the natural environment of the campground and can be a primary reason for choosing a "camping near me" location.
However, the same review raises some concerns regarding the lake's current state. The reviewer notes a perceived decline in the gill population, possibly linked to a reduction in the bass population. They also point out a need to "upgrade the shoreline around the campground" for campers to "bank their boats" more effectively. This feedback suggests that while the lake is a feature of Westwood Park, its quality for fishing and boating access might be areas needing improvement. Potential campers interested in these activities should consider this feedback and perhaps inquire about the current conditions of the lake.
Based on the available information, Westwood Park offers:
- Friendly and helpful staff.
- Clean facilities.
- Thoughtfully trimmed trees around campsites, particularly beneficial for RVs.
- A lake setting, which historically was popular for fishing and boating.
However, potential campers should also be aware of the concerns raised about:
- A possible decline in the gill population in the lake.
- A need for upgrades to the shoreline for better boat access.

Westwood Park Reviews
Used to love this lake. Gills aren't as abundant since a lot of the bass were taken out. Wonder if gills were taken out too. Need to upgrade the shoreline around the campground. Not very good for campers to bank their boats

Feb 11, 2025 · Tim MartinIt is the cleanest and quietest campground I've been at. I love it here. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to get away and enjoy nature. Do some fishing. The lake is not size. It is probably motor only very kayak, canoe friendly. You can do some hiking or walking on trails. There's a small playground for kids. Bathroom facilities and showers are very clean. The RV spots are pretty flat, easy to level out an RV. Each campground spot is large. You've got plenty of room.
Jul 01, 2024 · Susan RodgersI heard about Westwood in a FB camping group. Since I was interested in finding a closer campground for spur of the moment wknd trips, I drove up and checked them out. As a park, it is beautiful. It is heavily wooded, has a pretty fishing lake, several picnic areas, and some trails. All were very well kept and clean. The staff at the gatehouse were very nice and informative. However, the campground area was a disappointment for ME. It appeared to be well kept with a maintained loop drive and a playground. I didn't go in the bathrooms, but I am sure they were just as clean and well kept as everything else. However, the limited number of sites (38, I think) are very small, with short parking areas, and very little, if any privacy. Most of the sites are at 90° angles and 4 of them require backing down a road before you can back into your site. I didn't have my camper with me, but it LOOKED like extra leveling blocks MIGHT be needed for a few sites. Of course, that can happen anywhere and we should always be prepared anyway. Probably none of what I mentioned would bother campers who regularly camp in state parks, I usually camp in national forests. Totally different vibe. Just a preference thing. I was very excited when first entering Westwood, but without being able to reserve the one really nice site (Westwood is fcfs only), I doubt I'll take the chance. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice little campground, just not for me. My review is more of a heads up for those who prefer to camp more like I do. I wish I had taken photos, but I didn't think of it at the time. EDITED TO ADD: The way the star ratings are figured by Google's system are inaccurate in this case. There are no 'rooms' to rate, therefore, the stars are lower than I would like them to be. There is nothing particularly wrong or broken, dirty, etc., about this campground. Just preference differences and a messed up Google star rating system.
Jun 30, 2024 · Deb TurleyThis was a beautiful park with lots of parking, access to the lake, playground, and the workers were very friendly and helpful. If we lived in the area we would come back but we were stopping through for the solar eclipse. It was a perfect place to experience the total solar eclipse of 2024!
