Wetzel County 4H Camp Introduce
For local users seeking information about "camping near me" in the vicinity of New Martinsville, West Virginia, Wetzel County 4H Camp, located at WV-7, New Martinsville, WV 26155, USA, presents a somewhat complex picture based on the limited and conflicting information available online. While it is identified as a 4H camp, suggesting a connection to youth development and agricultural activities, one review indicates it serves as a venue for events like fairs and rodeos, and another details a highly negative personal experience seemingly related to vehicle issues on the property. Therefore, understanding the camping opportunities and overall environment requires a careful consideration of these limited perspectives.
One reviewer expressed extreme dissatisfaction with their experience at Wetzel County 4H Camp, alleging fault on the part of the facility for their truck being taken. The review mentions a niece getting stuck in the mud while backing up, resulting in the truck becoming further embedded. The reviewer expressed anger and an intent to pursue legal action. This account also details an interaction with someone referred to as "the pig" who was described as "rude and disrespectful" and who allegedly took it upon themselves to remove the reviewer's truck despite being told help was already on the way. This review raises significant concerns about property management, communication, and potentially the condition of the grounds, particularly regarding areas prone to becoming muddy and the handling of vehicle-related incidents.
In stark contrast, another reviewer had a seemingly positive experience, stating, "Was nice little fair, went to watch rodeo." This suggests that Wetzel County 4H Camp serves as a venue for community events, including fairs and rodeos, which can be attractions for local residents. This review does not provide any information about camping facilities but indicates that the site is used for public gatherings and entertainment.
Given these two very different accounts, it is challenging to definitively describe the environment, services, and features of Wetzel County 4H Camp as a campground without further clarification. However, we can attempt to infer some possibilities and raise key questions based on the available information:
Potential Environment: The location on WV-7 in New Martinsville suggests a rural setting within Wetzel County. The mention of getting stuck in the mud implies that portions of the property may be unpaved and susceptible to becoming waterlogged, particularly after rain. The environment likely includes open areas suitable for events like fairs and rodeos, and potentially other areas designated for camping or related activities. The presence of a 4H camp also suggests the possibility of agricultural or natural features on the property.
Potential Services and Features: Based on the limited information, it's difficult to ascertain the specific services and features offered for camping. However, considering its potential as a fairground and a 4H camp, some possibilities might include:
- Event Hosting Facilities: The camp likely has infrastructure to host events like fairs and rodeos, which could include arenas, exhibition halls, or open spaces.
- Possible Camping Areas: There might be designated areas for camping, potentially utilized during events or at other times. The nature of these sites (e.g., primitive, RV hookups) is unknown.
- Parking: Areas for parking are necessary to accommodate event attendees and potentially campers. However, the negative review highlights potential issues with vehicles getting stuck.
- Agricultural Facilities: As a 4H camp, there might be facilities related to agricultural education and activities, although these may not be directly relevant to camping.
Missing Information: Crucially, there is a significant lack of information regarding:
- Specific Camping Facilities: The availability, types, and amenities of any campsites (tent or RV) are not mentioned.
- Restroom and Shower Facilities: It is unknown if these are available for campers.
- Water and Electrical Hookups: Information on RV hookups is absent.
- Campground Rules and Regulations: The negative review suggests a lack of clear signage or communication regarding property access and vehicle policies.
- Staffing and Management: The contrasting reviews paint different pictures of staff interactions.
- Pricing and Reservations: No information is provided on camping fees or how to make reservations.
- Promotional Information: There are no mentions of any special offers or promotions.
Given the limited and conflicting nature of the available information, local users interested in "camping near me" at Wetzel County 4H Camp should exercise caution and seek direct clarification from the facility. It is strongly recommended to contact them by phone at (304) 455-4544 or +1 304-455-4544 to inquire specifically about camping opportunities, amenities, rules, and recent conditions. When calling, it would be prudent to ask about:
- Availability of Camping: Confirm if camping is permitted outside of organized events.
- Types of Campsites: If camping is available, inquire about tent sites, RV sites, and any available hookups.
- Amenities for Campers: Ask about restrooms, showers, water access, and waste disposal.
- Vehicle Policies: Clarify any rules regarding vehicle access and parking on the property, especially concerning areas that may be prone to mud.
- Rules and Regulations: Inquire about any specific rules or guidelines for campers and visitors.
- Contact Information for Management: Ensure you have the correct contact details for addressing any concerns.
The negative review raises serious concerns that prospective campers should address directly with the management to understand the context and whether any changes or improvements have been made. The positive review indicating the hosting of a fair and rodeo suggests that the primary function of Wetzel County 4H Camp may be as an event venue, with camping potentially being a secondary or event-related offering.
In conclusion, based on the limited and contradictory information available, Wetzel County 4H Camp in New Martinsville, WV, appears to be a venue that hosts events like fairs and rodeos and may offer some form of camping. However, a highly negative review detailing significant issues related to vehicle handling and property management warrants serious consideration. Local users interested in "camping near me" at this location should contact the facility directly to obtain accurate and up-to-date information about camping availability, amenities, rules, and current conditions before making any decisions.

Aug 30, 2019 · John PhillipsI am told it is a great place to camp. Have not experienced it yet, but it would be nice to have more information regarding amenities, offerings, etc. Hard to make a decision to stay there without more information. Do you have full hookup sites for RV's? Do you have a dump station with potable water available. What does it cost to stay there? Who is allowed to stay there? Is it open to the public?
Apr 25, 2017 · Maurice FioccaBeautiful quiet place to walk a track, picnic, or even fish by the boat ramp. Lots of shelter house and stage for band or contest a hall rental too. It's a campground or just a day get away
