Whispering Pines Family Introduce
For local residents in and around Washington, Pennsylvania, seeking a "camping near me" experience that offers a blend of natural beauty and a relaxed atmosphere, Whispering Pines Family Campground, located at 1969 Henderson Ave, Washington, PA 15301, USA, presents an appealing option. With contact numbers (724) 222-9830 and +1 724-222-9830, this campground has garnered positive feedback from visitors who appreciate its natural setting and straightforward approach to camping.
The environment at Whispering Pines Family Campground is consistently praised for its beauty. Situated on a "beautiful hillside," the campground offers scenic views and a tranquil setting. A "small stream flowing through it" adds to the natural charm, providing a soothing ambiance and potential for gentle exploration. The tent area is noted for having flat ground, which is a significant advantage for comfortable tent setup. The campground is also described as pet-friendly, making it a welcoming destination for campers who travel with their animal companions.
In terms of services and features, Whispering Pines Family Campground provides essential amenities while maintaining a focus on a more traditional camping experience, as highlighted by a reviewer who appreciates what the campground "isn't" (e.g., overly fancy, burdened by numerous rules, requiring online reservations). Based on the customer reviews, the services and features include:
- **Water and Electric Hookups:** These are available at most campsites, catering to both tent campers who appreciate basic conveniences and RV travelers needing essential utilities.
- **Full Hookup Sites:** A limited number of full hookup sites are also available, offering sewer connections in addition to water and electricity for RVs requiring comprehensive services.
- **Clean Bathhouse and Showers:** One reviewer specifically lauded the campground for having the "cleanest campground bathroom I have ever seen and showers," which is a significant positive aspect for camper comfort and hygiene. However, another reviewer described the bathhouse as "marginal," indicating that experiences may vary or that there might be room for improvement in this area.
- **Fire Pits:** The tent area is equipped with fire pits, allowing campers to enjoy campfires for cooking and ambiance (subject to local regulations and safety guidelines).
- **Pet-Friendly Policy:** The campground welcomes pets, making it a suitable choice for campers who wish to bring their furry friends along.
- **Self-Registration and Self-Pay:** Campers arriving late should be aware that the campground operates on a self-registration and self-pay system in the evening. This implies that there might not be on-site staff available for check-in during later hours, and campers should be prepared to follow posted instructions for securing their site and payment.
- **Reasonable Prices:** One reviewer explicitly mentioned that the prices are reasonable, making Whispering Pines Family Campground an attractive option for budget-conscious campers looking for value in the "camping near me" category.
- **No Online Reservations:** The campground does not utilize an online reservation system, which, according to one reviewer, contributes to the ease of getting a campsite. This suggests a more traditional, first-come, first-served approach or reservations made directly via phone.
A significant piece of information is that the swimming pool was "washed away," indicating that this amenity is currently unavailable. Local users who prioritize having a swimming pool at their campground should take this into consideration.
The positive reviews from repeat visitors, one stating they have stayed four different times and prefer Whispering Pines to other campgrounds in the area, speaks volumes about the overall appeal of the campground despite some noted limitations like the marginal bathhouse (according to one perspective) and the absence of a swimming pool. The beautiful hillside setting and the presence of a stream seem to be major draws for those seeking a more natural and less commercialized camping experience.
There is no specific promotional information mentioned in the provided reviews. Local users interested in any potential discounts for local residents, off-season rates, or special offers should contact Whispering Pines Family Campground directly using the provided phone numbers. Given that they do not offer online reservations, a phone call would also be the primary way to inquire about availability and pricing for specific dates.
For local residents searching for "camping near me" in the Washington, PA area, Whispering Pines Family Campground offers a beautiful natural environment with essential amenities like water and electric hookups, and some full hookup sites. It is pet-friendly and operates with a relaxed, less rule-intensive approach that appeals to many campers. The self-registration and self-pay system for late arrivals is a practical feature to note. While the bathhouse quality might vary according to individual experiences, and the swimming pool is currently unavailable, the reasonable prices and the scenic hillside location with a stream make it a compelling choice, especially for those who value a more traditional and nature-focused camping experience.
The campground's appeal lies in its simplicity and natural beauty rather than extensive modern amenities. The ease of getting a campsite, the pet-friendly policy, and the reasonable prices further enhance its attractiveness for local campers. Potential visitors should consider their priorities regarding amenities like a swimming pool and the level of bathhouse facilities they require. For those who value a beautiful, natural setting and essential hookups without the fuss of online reservations and numerous rules, Whispering Pines Family Campground appears to be a highly recommended "camping near me" option in Washington County, Pennsylvania.

Whispering Pines Family Reviews
We like the campground for what it isn't. It isn't fancy, it doesn't have on-line reservations, it doesn't have a bunch of rules, it isn't hard to get a campsite there. The bath house is marginal and the swimming pool washed away, but we have stayed there four different times and prefer it to other campgrounds in the area. The campground is on a beautiful hillside with a small stream flowing through it. Water and electric are available at the sites. A few full-hookup sites are available. Prices are reasonable. We will continue to stay at this campground!
Jul 20, 2019 · Mark FuerstenauBeautiful campground with the cleanest campground bathroom I have ever seen and showers. We stayed in the tent area with electric and a firepit. Ground is flat here. Pet friendly and owner was easy to contact with questions. Its self register and self pay in the evening so it you are coming in late keep that in mind. We will stay here again!
Jul 07, 2020 · Austin CainI'm used to "pick your site online and pay with a card" reservations, so texting for availability made me a little leery. However, my text was answered quickly and friendly. Campground was the quietest I've ever been to and bathroom was bright and functional. Playgrounds looked dated but fun and safe for kiddos, the pool looked clean with it's solar cover on for tomorrow's guests comfort. I'd definitely return if I'm in the area again.
Aug 26, 2024 · sara astheimerGreat park! It's not a massive campground but it has everything you need. We stayed for a long weekend. The pool was very clean and well cared for. Power and electric at all the sites. Wood available at the office for a small fee. The Amphitheater at Star Lake is about 25 minutes away and downtown roughly 1 hr. Owner was great, we will return.
Aug 09, 2022 · Ridge CWe camp here every year. It's a nice quiet campground. We get the same spot every year. You fill out a paper and put money in a slot. No one bothers us. Campground has a very nice shower.
