Whispering Pines RV Park Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" specifically catering to RVs with the convenience of full hookups, Whispering Pines RV Park in Elk River, Idaho, presents a viable option. Situated in a remote yet activity-rich area, this small RV park offers essential amenities for recreational vehicle travelers. While primarily accommodating RVs, it's crucial for potential visitors to understand the specific features and limitations based on available user reviews to determine if it aligns with their needs.
Environment and Location: Whispering Pines RV Park is located in Elk River, Idaho, a setting described as an "awesome location" by one reviewer and "pretty remote" by another. This suggests a location that offers access to natural beauty and outdoor activities while being somewhat removed from larger towns and extensive services. The area is noted for being popular among ATV riders, indicating proximity to suitable trails and terrain for off-road adventures. Additionally, the reviews mention great fishing, mountain biking, hiking, and kayaking opportunities being "right there," implying that the park serves as a convenient basecamp for exploring the surrounding natural environment. The remoteness, however, means that visitors should be prepared for limited on-site amenities and potentially restricted access to services commonly found in more populated areas.
Services and Amenities: A key feature of Whispering Pines RV Park is that it offers full hookups for RVs, including water, electricity, and sewer connections. This is a significant advantage for RV travelers seeking the convenience and comfort of these essential services. However, a crucial point highlighted in the reviews is the absence of on-site bathroom amenities. This means that the park is exclusively suitable for RVs equipped with their own restrooms and showers. Tent camping or RVs without these facilities would not be well-suited for this location. One reviewer mentioned seeing a laundry room, but its location was unclear, suggesting it might be limited or not readily accessible. There is no Wi-Fi available at the RV park itself, and attempts to access Wi-Fi at a nearby lodge were unsuccessful. Limited intermittent coverage might be found at the local library, indicating that internet access could be challenging for those relying on it.
Features and Activities: The primary appeal of Whispering Pines RV Park lies in its location and the access it provides to a range of outdoor activities. The strong presence of ATV riders suggests excellent opportunities for off-roading in the vicinity. The mention of great fishing, mountain biking, hiking, and kayaking indicates that the area caters to a variety of outdoor enthusiasts. The park's proximity to these activities makes it a convenient base for those planning to engage in these pursuits. One reviewer noted that the spaces are "tight compared to Forest Service spots," implying that while functional, the campsites might not offer extensive privacy or sprawling layouts. However, the "atmosphere and full hookups for a great price" were seen as compensating factors by one visitor.
Important Considerations and Potential Drawbacks: Several important considerations arise from the user reviews. The lack of on-site bathroom facilities is a significant limitation, making the park suitable only for self-contained RVs. The absence of Wi-Fi at the park and the difficulty in finding reliable internet access nearby could be a drawback for those needing to stay connected. The description of most sites appearing to be long-term residents might create a different atmosphere for short-term visitors, potentially feeling like a guest in a more permanent community. The small size of the campground, with just one row of sites, and the description of back-in sites as "tight and short" are also factors to consider, particularly for larger RVs. While the camp hosts are described as "very nice" and "great," the limited on-site services mean that assistance for needs beyond basic park information might require contacting them at their personal RV.
Furthermore, information regarding the nearby lodge and general store appears to be somewhat contradictory or in flux. One review mentions the Log Lodge restaurant having great food and service, while another states that the lodge had a "for sale" sign and was no longer serving food, offering only huckleberry ice cream. This suggests that the availability of these nearby amenities might be unreliable or subject to change. The ice cream and coffee shop across the street is mentioned as an alternative for those seeking more than just ice cream. The discrepancy in these reports highlights the importance of seeking current information about local services when planning your stay.
Promotional Information and Local Appeal: For local RV owners seeking "camping near me" with the convenience of full hookups and direct access to a variety of outdoor recreational activities, Whispering Pines RV Park offers a functional basecamp. The park's proximity to ATV trails, fishing spots, mountain biking areas, hiking trails, and kayaking locations makes it particularly appealing to adventure enthusiasts. The positive feedback regarding the friendly and helpful camp hosts adds to the welcoming atmosphere. Despite the limited amenities and potential for tight spaces, the full hookups and the gateway to outdoor adventures could be strong selling points for local RVers prioritizing these aspects. The affordability, as suggested by one review mentioning a "great price," further enhances its appeal for budget-conscious travelers.
Staying Informed: Given the conflicting information regarding nearby amenities and the specific limitations of the RV park itself (no bathrooms, limited Wi-Fi), it is strongly recommended that local users contact Whispering Pines RV Park directly at (208) 791-4327 or +1 208-791-4327 for the most current information. Inquiring about site availability and sizes, the status of the laundry room, and the current operating status of the nearby lodge and general store is essential for planning a satisfactory trip. Understanding the park's policies regarding long-term residents and the level of services provided by the camp hosts will also help potential visitors manage their expectations and come prepared for the specific environment of Whispering Pines RV Park.

Whispering Pines RV Park Reviews
This was ok for a quick stay but all but a few sites appeared to be long term. We were the only ones coming in for a quick trip. There is no wifi, no bathrooms and if you need something, you just go knock on the door of the camp host's RV. If you need wifi, you can go to the library and maybe get intermittent coverage. We couldn't get any wifi at the lodge. The campground is small with one row. All the pull thru sites looked like long term and the back in sites were right and short. Because no one was coming in for the site next to us, they did we could park our truck there. I know it says there is a laundry room but I have no idea where it was. The lodge has a for sale sign in the window and we are told by a lady who lives in town that they weren't serving food anymore. The lodge only had huckleberry ice cream so you had to go to the ice cream and coffee shop across the street. It really is pretty remote so you need to be coming for a specific reason. There are a lot of ATV riders in the area. The camp hosts were very nice.
Aug 05, 2024 · Donna SmithAwesome location! Full hookups! Spaces are tight compared to Forest Service spots but the atmosphere and full hookups for a great price made up for it. The hosts at the Campground were great! Only good for RVs as there are no bathroom amenities on site. The General Store and the Log Lodge restaurant were just a quick walk and both had great food and service. The Huckleberry Ice-cream and pancakes were to die for. Great fishing, mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, and quad riding all right there. We will be back!
Aug 08, 2022 · RichS LegoThis is a fantastic campground on the weekends. During the week, you have logging trucks on the main roads, using compression breaks. Not their fault. The campsites, bathrooms, water stations, and lake are very clean and well maintained. It's a shame they have decided to allow small gas motors on the lake. Nice family camping.
Jun 20, 2023 · Sherry ArcherWe had so much fun at this place; our first visit but we will definitely be back! Super friendly people, great hosts, close to hiking and seconds away from the reservoir! Fun local restaurant and bar, and wonderful huckleberry ice cream to be had at the Elk River Lodge & General Store! What a treasure!
Jun 07, 2022 · Heather TibbettThe only reason I give this review 2 stars - is because the teenage boy that checked us in was very nice and the room was clean - other than that 0 stars. We reserved through Whispering Pines a room with two double beds - the double beds would have been fine for us and I did inform them I was bringing my two dogs and asked if I should be concerned or know anything. I did not receive an answer so assumed this wouldn't be a problem - once they close their store, you must access the room from the back of the building, through a door that is "always" unlocked via a very steep, long stairway - ok, we carried our 14.5 year old goldendoodle and luggage up the steep stairs and tried to settle in. #7 - the room with two double beds is basically a closet - there is no air conditioning or window to get any air flow. No fan. My husband and I realized there was no way we could leave our dogs in that room while we attended the wedding that we came to town for the next day. We couldn't breath in the room, much less leave our dogs in there to attend the wedding. We got back into our air conditioned car and tried to figure out what to do. We called - the manager wouldn't get on the phone and made the nice teenage boy inform us there was "no way" to give us a refund on the room - even for the second night that was booked. So we drove the 3 hours back home and missed my nephews wedding. (there were no others rooms anywhere close at this point) - Very disappointed in the way we were treated and expected to stay in a sauna - I am not sure how the stairs could even meet a fire code. Please ask many questions if you have to stay with this establishment or bring your tent - you would be safer.
