If you're searching for "camping near me" and looking for a destination that offers a blend of lakeside fun and a clean, family-friendly environment, Grandad Campground at Dworshak Reservoir is a place to consider. While the precise address is listed as simply "Idaho, USA," it is understood to be situated along the beautiful Dworshak Reservoir. Based on the experiences shared by visitors, this campground offers a unique camping experience with some notable features and environmental conditions.
Dworshak Reservoir Grandad Campground appears to be a popular spot for families and those looking to enjoy the outdoors. Feedback from campers highlights both the enjoyable aspects and some conditions to be aware of when planning your visit. Let's delve into the environment, services, and features that make this campground a topic of discussion among those who have stayed there.
Environment:
The campground is located by Dworshak Reservoir, which is a significant feature of the area. One visitor described their experience, noting that the "beach had lots of rocks and whatnot seeing as the tide was so low." This suggests that the water levels of the reservoir can fluctuate, impacting the shoreline and the beach area. The same reviewer mentioned that "the lake was very muddy," which, while perhaps not ideal for all water activities, was something their "kids enjoyed whilst we tanned." This indicates that the lake offers opportunities for both water play and relaxation by the shore.
Beyond the immediate lake area, the campground is described as having "tons of area for kiddos to run and bike rides etc." This suggests a spacious layout with ample room for children to play and for families to enjoy recreational activities within the campground itself. The surrounding area also seems to offer opportunities for exploration, as one review mentions "many road trails and ways to get lost," advising caution and perhaps hinting at a more extensive network of paths and wilderness around the reservoir. The beauty of the location is also underscored by a simple yet evocative comment: "Beautiful, but don't get lost."
Services and Features:
One of the consistently praised aspects of Dworshak Reservoir Grandad Campground is its cleanliness. A reviewer explicitly stated that "the campground is spotless," which is a significant positive for any camping facility. Cleanliness often contributes greatly to the overall comfort and enjoyment of a stay. Additionally, the campground is noted to have "clean bathrooms," which is another essential amenity that visitors often appreciate.
Regarding access to the campground, one review mentioned that "some comments stated the road into it was difficult but it was very easy for us so unsure of those." This suggests that while some might perceive the road as challenging, others find it manageable. The reviewer who found it easy described "the road is 10mph and curvy but a solid road." This information is helpful for those planning their drive in, indicating that while it might be winding and have a lower speed limit, the road surface itself is reported to be in good condition.
The reviews do not provide details on specific campsite amenities such as hookups for RVs, fire pits, or picnic tables. Similarly, there is no mention of facilities like showers or laundry. Those planning to camp here should likely be prepared for a more rustic experience or seek further information on the availability of specific amenities based on their needs.
Community:
While the reviews don't extensively discuss the community aspect, the fact that it's considered a place with "tons of area for kiddos to run" suggests a family-friendly environment where children might interact and play. The overall tone of the positive review indicates a pleasant atmosphere, though specific interactions between campers are not detailed.
One somewhat cryptic comment recommends "non tourists only," which could imply a preference for locals or those familiar with the area, perhaps due to the nature of the trails or the overall experience. However, this is just one individual's opinion and might not reflect the general welcome offered at the campground.

Jun 06, 2023 · Pattie Dionne- FarrellThe road in is absolutely horrible, we blew out 2 tires on the boat trailer just getting there. The launch is skinny and has big sharp rocks lining the outside it leaves no room for error. All of the shores are nasty mud that stinks and gets all over. There is huge boulders hiding in the water and almost sunk the boat. Never going back.
