White's Riverside Bluffton Campground Introduce
For local outdoor enthusiasts seeking a camping experience centered around the scenic Upper Iowa River within the "camping near me" category, White's Riverside Bluffton Campground near Decorah, Iowa, offers a unique draw: direct river access for kayaking and canoeing, allowing for convenient trips that end right at your campsite. While the campground is noted for being well-kept and clean, it's important for potential visitors to be aware of some limitations regarding water and restroom facilities based on recent customer feedback. Let's explore the details to provide a comprehensive overview for local users considering a stay at White's Riverside Bluffton Campground.
Prime Location for Upper Iowa River Activities: The standout feature of White's Riverside Bluffton Campground is undoubtedly its location along the Upper Iowa River. One reviewer enthusiastically described their "kayak trip down the Upper Iowa River" as "amazing!!" A significant bonus for paddlers is the convenience of being able to "get out right at your campsite and don't have far to take your boat!" This direct river access eliminates the need for separate transportation arrangements after a day on the water, making it exceptionally convenient for kayaking and canoeing enthusiasts. Local users planning a river adventure will find this campground particularly appealing due to this seamless integration of water activities and camping.
Spacious Campsites, Though Potential for Group Separation: One reviewer noted that "The campground was nice, plenty of space." This suggests that the individual campsites offer ample room for setting up tents and enjoying outdoor living. However, they also mentioned, "Just not by our group :(" indicating that while space is available, groups might not always be accommodated together. Local users traveling with a larger party should inquire about the possibility of securing adjacent or nearby campsites when making their reservations to ensure a cohesive group camping experience.
Clean and Well-Kept Campground: Despite some limitations in amenities, White's Riverside Bluffton Campground is recognized for its upkeep. One reviewer stated, "Campground is very well kept and clean." This is a significant positive, as cleanliness contributes greatly to the comfort and enjoyment of a camping trip. Visitors can likely expect a tidy and well-maintained overall environment at the campground.
Limited Running Water and Shower Situation: A significant drawback highlighted in a review is the lack of consistent running water. The reviewer stated, "There was no running water. So no shower, also they charge extra for the shower and no drinking water." This indicates a potential inconvenience for campers who rely on running water for hygiene and drinking. While the reviewer mentioned that "They did bring out water in containers for our group," they also noted that "Saturday evening the water was gone." This suggests that while some provision for water is made, it might be limited or unreliable. Additionally, the fact that showers are available but at an extra charge, and that there is no readily available drinking water, are important considerations for potential guests.
Portapot Toilets: In terms of restroom facilities, the review indicates that the campground uses "Just portapots for toilets." While portapots serve a basic need, they are generally considered a less desirable option compared to flush toilets, especially for longer stays. Local users accustomed to more conventional restroom facilities at campgrounds should be aware of this limitation.
Unique Amenity: River Access to a Bar: Adding an interesting and somewhat unusual feature, one reviewer mentioned that the "campground across the river has a bar AND river is shallow enough to walk across from one to the other." This provides a unique opportunity for campers at White's Riverside Bluffton Campground to easily access a bar located on the opposite bank of the river. This could be a novel and appealing amenity for those who enjoy having a nearby social spot. However, it's important to exercise caution and be aware of river conditions and any potential safety concerns when crossing the river on foot.
Potential Need for Upgrades: Based on the limitations regarding water and restroom facilities, one reviewer concluded that "Some upgrades are needed." This suggests that while the location and cleanliness are appreciated, improvements to the basic amenities could enhance the overall camping experience at White's Riverside Bluffton Campground.
Location near Decorah, Iowa: Situated near Decorah, Iowa, White's Riverside Bluffton Campground likely benefits from the natural beauty of the region in northeast Iowa, known for its scenic bluffs, rolling hills, and the Upper Iowa River. Decorah itself is a charming town with local attractions and amenities that campers might find appealing. The campground's riverside location provides a direct connection to the natural landscape and the recreational opportunities offered by the Upper Iowa River.
Promotional Information for Local Users: For local residents in the "camping near me" category who are avid kayakers or canoeists, White's Riverside Bluffton Campground near Decorah, IA, offers an unparalleled advantage: direct access to the stunning Upper Iowa River, allowing you to end your river trips right at your campsite. The campground is reported to be well-kept and clean, providing a pleasant environment. For those who enjoy a unique social option, a bar is conveniently located across the shallow river. However, potential visitors should be aware that running water is limited, with no showers directly available (and an extra charge for showers if they exist), and drinking water may not be consistently provided. Restroom facilities consist of portapots. If your priority is river access and a clean campsite, and you are prepared for more rustic amenities, White's Riverside Bluffton Campground could be a great option for your next local paddling adventure. Inquire about group campsite availability when booking, and be sure to bring your own drinking water and plan accordingly for hygiene needs.
In conclusion, White's Riverside Bluffton Campground offers a significant advantage for local users seeking direct access to the Upper Iowa River for kayaking and canoeing, coupled with a clean camping environment. The unique feature of a nearby riverside bar adds an interesting element. However, it's crucial for potential guests to be aware of the limitations regarding running water and the use of portapot toilets. If river activities are your primary focus and you are comfortable with more basic amenities, this campground provides a convenient and scenic base for exploring the Upper Iowa River.

The campground was nice, plenty of space. Just not by our group :( BUT the kayak trip down the Upper Iowa River was amazing!! Bonus that you get out right at your campsite and don't have far to take your boat! Plus campground across the river has a bar AND river is shallow enough to walk across from one to the other.
Jul 01, 2023 · Rachel KnightCampground is very well kept and clean. But.. There was no running water. So no shower, also they charge extra for the shower and no drinking water. They did bring out water in containers for our group, but Saturday evening the water was gone. Just portapots for toilets. Some upgrades are needed.
May 07, 2024 · Karl C.Beautiful place to camp and go canoeing. The camp ground has portable potties. If you want to take a hot shower, it's 2 dollars. You can also buy firewoods and some basic camping needs. To camp, you need to make reservations in-advance.
Oct 08, 2021 · Raaman NairHad a great view right on the river. Was excited to find out Bluffton puts on a fireworks show and they set up on the bridge. So we had a perfect view of the fireworks! I was disappointed they weren't running shuttling for tubes on the river for the season. But with the corona virus issue it's understandable. There's other private parties that will shuttle around. The river was nice and shallow for my son to play by the bank no problem! Also the portable bathrooms were cleaned every day which was a big plus!
Jul 05, 2020 · Tyler DeckerA small beautiful campground with electricity even for tents!!! The hosts are so grateful and welcoming we had to stay an extra night! Will definitely be back to camp with them.
