4.0
Beautiful campground with decent space between camp sites, a wonderful day use area, and several hikes within a 10 minute drive of Quinault Lake. Bathrooms are well maintained, campsites are relatively large and some have amazing views. We stayed for three nights and had no issues. Great place to unplug and unwind and only a few hours from both Seattle and Portland. Highly recommend! ✌🏾 - sean kp

Willaby Campground Introduce

Looking for "camping near me" in the stunning Pacific Northwest? Consider Willaby Campground, located on South Shore Road in Quinault, WA 98575, USA. Situated on the shores of the picturesque Lake Quinault within the Olympic National Forest, Willaby Campground offers a beautiful setting with decent space between campsites and convenient access to the lake and surrounding hiking trails. Recently reopened after a closure due to hazardous trees, Willaby Campground presents an opportunity to unplug and unwind in a serene environment, easily accessible from both Seattle and Portland.

The environment at Willaby Campground is highly praised by visitors. The campground boasts a "beautiful" setting with mature trees providing shade and a sense of natural immersion. One reviewer noted "decent space between camp sites," which is a significant advantage for those seeking privacy and a less crowded camping experience. Many campsites are described as "relatively large," offering ample room for tents, gear, and maneuvering. Some sites also offer "amazing views," although recent vegetation growth may have partially obstructed some of these views compared to older online images. The campground's location directly on Lake Quinault provides "easy access to the beach for a swim," a highly desirable feature, especially during warmer months. The lake itself offers opportunities for various water activities and stunning natural beauty.

Willaby Campground also features a "wonderful day use area," suggesting facilities for picnicking and enjoying the lake even for those not staying overnight. For outdoor enthusiasts, the campground is ideally located with "several hikes within a 10 minute drive of Quinault Lake," providing ample opportunities to explore the lush rainforests and scenic trails of the Olympic Peninsula. The proximity to these hiking trails makes Willaby Campground an excellent basecamp for those looking to experience the renowned natural beauty of the area.

In terms of services and amenities, recent reviews indicate that Willaby Campground is in the process of fully reopening and staffing. One reviewer mentioned that only one of the bathrooms was open during their Fourth of July stay. While this bathroom offered the luxury of "flush toilets and running water," there were some initial maintenance issues, including a broken sink, lack of soap, and no light. These issues were reportedly fixed a couple of days later. However, the hand dryer was out of order and appeared to have been so for an extended period. The same reviewer also noted the presence of mold on the bathroom walls and the absence of cleaning during their three-night stay, although toilet paper was restocked. This suggests that while basic facilities are available, cleanliness may be an area that is still being addressed following the reopening.

Another important service-related note is the lack of firewood for purchase onsite. Visitors are advised to plan accordingly and either purchase firewood at the nearby Quinault Mercantile for $6.75 per bundle or at roadside vendors on the way out for $5 per bundle. This information is crucial for those planning to enjoy campfires during their stay.

Despite some of the initial reopening challenges with the bathrooms, the overall sentiment from recent visitors is positive. One reviewer concluded that Willaby Campground is "overall a lovely campground with decent privacy between sites and swimming in lake Quinault was fabulous," stating they would "definitely come back." The reopening after a year-long closure due to hazardous trees is a significant positive, providing access to this popular camping destination once again. The friendly atmosphere and the allure of Lake Quinault and the surrounding natural beauty seem to outweigh the temporary inconveniences related to the reopening process.

In conclusion, Willaby Campground offers a compelling "camping near me" option for those seeking a beautiful lakeside setting on Lake Quinault within the Olympic National Forest. The spacious campsites, lake access for swimming, and proximity to hiking trails are significant draws.
