WOODRING CAMPGROUND Introduce
For local RV owners and camping enthusiasts seeking a tranquil lakeside retreat, WOODRING CAMPGROUND, located at 5026 Woodridge Branch in Oakman, GA, offers a promising option within the "camping near me" category. Situated approximately 20 miles from Ellijay on the picturesque Carters Lake, this Corp of Engineers campground has garnered positive reviews for its peaceful environment and well-maintained facilities, albeit with a few considerations for larger RVs and those seeking immediate access to town amenities.
The environment at WOODRING CAMPGROUND is consistently praised for its quiet and peaceful atmosphere. This makes it an ideal destination for local campers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse themselves in a serene natural setting. The campground also boasts great lake views, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenic beauty of Carters Lake directly from their campsites. The presence of level concrete sites is a significant advantage for RVers, ensuring ease of setup and stability. Additionally, the campground offers easy water and electric hookups, catering specifically to the needs of RV travelers and enhancing the convenience of their stay.
For those interested in water activities, WOODRING CAMPGROUND provides nice boat ramps, facilitating easy access to Carters Lake for boating and fishing. The inclusion of a small beach offers a spot for relaxation by the water and perhaps some gentle swimming. Families with young children will also appreciate the small playground available within the campground, providing a dedicated space for kids to play and burn off energy.
Navigating to and within WOODRING CAMPGROUND is generally straightforward for RVs up to a certain size. One reviewer, who stayed in a 30' Class A motorhome on site 21, reported no problems with driving in and setting up. This suggests that the campground is well-suited for mid-sized RVs. However, it's crucial for owners of larger RVs (much longer than 30') to be aware of potential challenges. The entrance road to the campground is described as long (approximately 3 miles) and twisty. Maneuvering a large RV along such a road, especially with potential low and side branches, could be difficult and requires careful driving. Additionally, there is a low bridge with a clearance of 13'7" on Hwy 76/Old Hwy 411 just north of Sugar Hollow Rd, which could pose a significant obstacle for taller RVs. It is imperative for those with larger rigs to consider these access limitations before planning a trip to WOODRING CAMPGROUND.
Another factor to consider for local campers is the campground's distance from the nearest town, which is approximately 20 miles or a 30-minute drive. While the peaceful seclusion is a major draw for many, those who prefer frequent access to town amenities, such as grocery stores, restaurants, or entertainment options, should be prepared for this travel time. This distance might also be a consideration in case of needing supplies or emergency services.
Despite these caveats regarding access for larger RVs and the distance to town, the overall sentiment from reviewers is overwhelmingly positive. Many describe WOODRING CAMPGROUND as a "great little campground" and express a strong intention to return. One reviewer loved it so much that they reserved sites for their next trip before even leaving their first stay. The beauty and relative quiet of Carters Lake, particularly noted during mid-September, contribute significantly to the positive experience. The campground itself is described as "lovely," and the hosts are mentioned as being kind, further enhancing the appeal of this local camping destination.
For local users browsing for "camping near me" and considering WOODRING CAMPGROUND, it's important to weigh the pros and cons based on your specific needs and the size of your RV. If you have a smaller to mid-sized RV and prioritize a quiet, peaceful lakeside setting with good facilities, then WOODRING CAMPGROUND appears to be an excellent choice. The level concrete sites, easy hookups, boat ramps, small beach, and playground offer a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience. The positive feedback regarding the beauty of the lake and the kindness of the hosts further adds to its appeal.
However, if you own a larger RV exceeding 30 feet in length or significantly taller than 13'7", the entrance road and the low bridge on the way to the campground present potential challenges that need careful consideration. Additionally, if you prefer being close to town amenities and frequent access to services, the 30-minute drive might be a drawback.

They can provide the most up-to-date information on pricing, availability, and any current promotions.
In conclusion, WOODRING CAMPGROUND offers a delightful lakeside camping experience on Carters Lake, particularly well-suited for RVers seeking a quiet and peaceful environment with essential amenities. Local campers with smaller to mid-sized RVs will likely appreciate the level sites, easy hookups, and lake access. However, those with larger RVs need to be mindful of the access limitations, and all visitors should consider the 30-minute drive to the nearest town when planning their stay. The consistently positive reviews regarding the beauty of the location and the pleasant atmosphere suggest that WOODRING CAMPGROUND is a hidden gem worth considering for your next "camping near me" adventure in the Ellijay/Oakman area.

WOODRING CAMPGROUND Reviews
Woodring Campground is another great Corp of Engineers campground for RV's, with a couple of caveats. We spent a terrific long weekend at this campground about 20 miles from Ellijay on Carters Lake.On the positive side, it's quiet, peaceful, great lake views, level concrete sites, easy water and electric hookups, nice boat ramps, small beach, and small playground. No problems with driving in and setting up our 30' class A motorhome on site 21.The only downsides are that: If you're much larger than 30', the drive up the long and twisty entrance road (about 3 miles) and to the campsites may be challenge. Watch out for low and side branches. There is also a low bridge (13'7") on Hwy 76/Old Hwy 411 just north of Sugar Hollow Rd. Also, as mentioned, it's about 20 miles or 30 minutes to the nearest town.Otherwise, it's a great little campground that we intend to return to.
Jun 09, 2022 · Philip McCutchenWe loved the campground so much, we reserved sites for our next trip before we returned home from our first experience there. The lake is beautiful and fairly quiet (mid-Sept.) The campground is lovely. The hosts were kind. We look forward to returning soon.
Sep 29, 2019 · Jen W.Our first time camping at Woodring Branch. This place is beautiful. Nice and quiet here. We got site 35 and have a gorgeous view of the lake. We will definitely be back.
Jul 13, 2022 · J HamiltonNice and quiet. The facilities where nice and clean Friday and Saturday, but Sunday were a disaster. This is due to weekenders that have no respect for others and make a mess of everything they touch just because they don't have to clean up after themselves. But overall, great place to get away and relax.

You can hike, you can bike, you can camp, you can swim.Very relaxing, You would wake up to a Priceless view of the river and soothing sound of the waves. A must visit for everyone. Family fun - Oh Yeah. There is a Beach they have carved out for kids (and adults too). Also a good kids playgroundThey have both electric (RVs) and primitive camping. Restrooms are very neat and cozy - They have laundry. We didn't reserve, but walked-in to the site on Saturday, The staff were so helpful - they gave us a 20 mins pass into the site and asked us to look and pick the spot we wanted.Tips:* Check-in is at 3pm. The site is closed at night, so you have to get in before they close (hours vary by season - be sure to check the hours). You can go out after night, but can't come in until it opens next day.* No firewood available in the park. Be sure to buy Georgia firewood before you come, if you want to light campfire. Nearby Retail stores are at Elijay ( about 30 mins away)* Some camping sites needs a stroll, as you may not drive your car near the camping site. Be ready to carry your tent gears and boats, for a few yards.* The camping site is surrounded by the Carters Lake, so you will get a Island feel. The camping sites are also mostly build in the banks of the lake to give the Private feel and warmth.* The sites we liked were 39,40,41,42. All of them were so good.40 being the Best, you can just walk into the lake water (look at Pic). Grab 40, if you can.
