Candlestick RV Park Introduce
Are you searching for "RV parks near me" in the San Francisco Bay Area? If so, Candlestick RV Park, located at 650 Gilman Ave, San Francisco, CA 94124, is one option that may appear in your search results. You can reach them by phone at (415) 822-2299 or mobile at +1 415-822-2299. To provide a comprehensive and objective introduction for local users, let's delve into the details of this RV park based on available information.
Location and Environment:
Candlestick RV Park is situated on the former parking lot of Candlestick Park. This location offers proximity to San Francisco and potentially easy access to city attractions. However, it's important to note that some reviews describe the surrounding area as a "bad" and "very dirty part of San Francisco with homeless." This is a crucial factor to consider when evaluating the overall environment and safety of the location.
The layout of the RV park is described as an "overcrowded parking lot" with spots packed very tightly. If your RV has slide-outs, be prepared for very close proximity to your neighbors, potentially within inches. This close configuration might impact your sense of personal space and ease of movement around your campsite.
One reviewer mentioned the presence of razor wire atop the perimeter fence, which could suggest concerns about security. While another reviewer noted that the gate to the park was never closed, indicating a potential lack of controlled access.
Despite the physical environment, one positive aspect highlighted is the presence of children playing, suggesting a family-friendly atmosphere within the RV park itself. Residents are also described as "polite and pleasant," contributing to a potentially positive social environment among campers.
Services and Amenities:
Based on the provided information, specific details about a wide range of services and amenities are limited. However, we do have some insights into the facilities available:
- Restrooms: The women's bathroom is specifically mentioned as being "exceedingly clean," with the reviewer commending the cleaning lady's dedication. This suggests that at least this particular facility is well-maintained.
- Showers: While there are reportedly seven showers in the women's bathroom, a significant drawback is that only one was functioning at the time of the review. This limited availability of working showers could be a major inconvenience for guests.
- Wi-Fi: One reviewer explicitly stated that the Wi-Fi was "not working in most parts of the park." Furthermore, their experience with customer service regarding this issue was negative, citing a delayed response and unhelpful attitude. This suggests that reliable internet access may not be guaranteed at Candlestick RV Park.
- Site Assignment: Upon arrival, it appears that guests are not assigned specific parking spots, even if a reservation was made in advance. This "first-come, first-served" system could lead to difficulties in finding a suitable space, especially for larger RVs.
- Parking: Finding a vacant space that can accommodate an RV longer than 20 feet is described as "hard." Maneuvering larger RVs into the narrow slots is also reported to be challenging. Additionally, there are instances of cars being parked in RV slots due to a lack of alternative parking within the park.
The limited information and the negative feedback regarding essential amenities like working showers and reliable Wi-Fi are important considerations for potential visitors.
Features:
The primary feature of Candlestick RV Park seems to be its location within San Francisco, offering potential access to the city's attractions. However, the reviews suggest that the immediate surroundings might detract from this benefit. The fact that it's situated on the old Candlestick Park parking lot is a unique historical aspect, but the current environment appears to be more utilitarian than scenic.
The presence of long-term residents, described as "working people whose families live in the small campers and 5th wheels full time," suggests a community atmosphere, although it also contributes to the tight-knit and potentially crowded conditions.
The mention of kids playing ball, bikes, and scooters indicates that the park might be suitable for families with children, fostering a sense of activity and community among the younger residents.
Promotional Information:
Based on the provided information, there is no specific promotional content available. The reviews primarily focus on the lived experiences of customers, both positive and negative, rather than any marketing messages from the RV park itself.
Given the strong negative feedback regarding the price, with one reviewer stating, "For the price they are asking, you better find another place," it's crucial for potential visitors to inquire about the current rates and compare them with other RV parks in the vicinity. The perception of being an "overcrowded parking lot" in a less desirable area contributes to the feeling that the pricing may not be justified.
Objective Summary of Customer Experiences:
The provided customer reviews paint a concerning picture of Candlestick RV Park. Key issues raised include:
- Deplorable Conditions: One reviewer described the park as "absolutely deplorable" and deserving of "minus Zero" stars.
- Overcrowding and Tight Spaces: The park is consistently referred to as overcrowded, with RV spots being very close together, making slide-out usage difficult and impacting personal space.
- Location Concerns: Situated in what is described as a "bad" and "very dirty part of San Francisco with homeless," the surrounding environment is a significant drawback for some visitors.
- Security Issues: While there is razor wire on the fence, the gate is reported to be consistently open, raising concerns about security.
- Limited and Malfunctioning Amenities: The availability of only one working shower out of seven and unreliable Wi-Fi are major shortcomings.
- Poor Customer Service: The experience with Wi-Fi support was negative, characterized by delayed responses and an unhelpful attitude.
- Lack of Assigned Parking and Difficult Maneuvering: The absence of assigned spots and the narrowness of the spaces make parking, especially for larger RVs, challenging.
- Questionable Value for Money: Multiple reviewers suggest that the price charged does not align with the quality and conditions of the RV park.
One positive note is the cleanliness of the women's bathroom, attributed to the pride taken by the cleaning staff. Additionally, the residents are described as polite and pleasant, and the presence of children suggests a family-oriented atmosphere within the park.
The significant disparity between the negative reviews and the park's reported average rating of 3 stars raises questions about the source and validity of the positive feedback. One reviewer explicitly expressed this confusion, wondering who provided the good reviews.
Conclusion for Local Users:
For local users searching for "RV parks near me," Candlestick RV Park presents a mixed picture based on recent customer experiences. While its location offers proximity to San Francisco, potential visitors should be aware of the reported negative aspects concerning the surrounding environment, overcrowding, limited and malfunctioning amenities, and challenging parking conditions. The strong concerns raised about the value for money compared to the offered services and the physical state of the park warrant careful consideration. It is highly recommended that potential guests conduct further research, including checking for more recent reviews and potentially visiting the site in person before making a reservation. Exploring alternative RV parks in the broader San Francisco Bay Area might be prudent to ensure a more comfortable and satisfactory experience.

Candlestick RV Park Reviews
If I could give this place "minus Zero" stars, I would. It's absolutely deplorable. It's location is the old parking lot of Candlestick Park. Most of the people there are the "marginally housed".... working people whose families live in the small campers and 5th wheels full time. The spots are packed very tight. If you have a slide out, your slider will be within INCHES of your very close neighbor. Lots of kids playing ball and bikes and scooters in the lot. All the residents are polite and pleasant. I never felt in danger, however, the "gate" to the park was never closed, so not secure. There is razor wire atop the perimeter fence, so there's that. The womens bathroom was exceedingly clean. The lady who cleaned it took great pride in her work. And it showed. However, there were 7 showers, and only 1 actually worked. To say, overall, that this place should be avoided at all costs. Drive further south. Stay in Santa Cruz. Don't stay here.
Oct 01, 2022 · Alison TerryFor the price they are asking, you better find another place. Essentially, its an overcrowded parking lot, located in a bad part of the city. A very dirty part of San Francisco with homeless. The Wi-Fi is not working in most parts of the park, when I sent a mail to ask to fix it, it took them more than 24 hours to reply, not before i sent another mail, and instead of trying to help, they replied I was the first one to complain... unbelievable. When you get there you need to find a place to park, no one assigns a spot for you even if you booked ahead. Its hard to find a vacant space that will fit a rv longer than 20 feet. Hard and narrow to maneuver the rv into a narrow slot. People here just park wherever they can, including parking cars in rv slots (because there is no other place).Attached some pics for demonstration.I do not recommend. It's a mystery how this place maintains an average rank of 3 stars. Who are the people who gave this place a good review?
Apr 06, 2021 · D SEhh kind of out there not much here, quiet. I went to get my pet vaccinated here in the parking lot every 3rd Saturday of the month. Good service. If you can get out here you’re probably able to care for your pet.
Feb 10, 2025 · Matthew McGuire (MATTHEW MCGUIRE)Because of the bad reviews we decided to skip this park but we needed to stay overnight in this area and therefor still picked Candlestick RV park.I first called for an available spot and was helped friendly, after that when we drove in we got helped friendly at the office. We had a nice back-in spot with enough room. The bathroom was large with pretty clean toilets, sinks and showers. The only thing that should be cleaned is the air filters. They offer an extra service for transfer but you can take an uber to the piers for just 10$. For a 1 night stay with rv with 2 adults we payed almost 100$ but that is because of the location.
Mar 24, 2018 · N v CPrices is ridiculous considering it's location and living conditions. Not only is it in a rough part of town, but its down a dark road, where you will have homeless & criminal operations living out of RVs and tents. You have local kids using this street for practicing sideshows and drag racing, as well with lazy people using this as a dumping station. You are better off parking illegally at some location with a view. The parking citations? Well just look at them as rent. I ended up not staying here, I already made that decision on my way to check it out... I forgot to mention that directly across the bay is the big problematic super fun site or multiple contractors have been fired and sued for falsifying paperwork and that there is still radiation found in areas they said were cleaned. I said because the areas around the RV park is all landfill and dirt from the super fun site was used to fill that area. So there’s actually cases and current cases of people being tested positive for high levels of different types of contaminants and metals from living in that area. If you walk around the candlestick recreation park some of the dirt trails around the water you’ll see remnants of the old shipping docs so this is proof that they actually used to work on some of the ships in that area. Show me the ships that were used during the testing of the nuclear weapons for World War II and the Oppenheimer experiments brought to this facility to clean up.
