Are you a local adventurer seeking an RV park that offers a unique blend of coastal beauty and rural charm? For those browsing under the category "RV Parks Near Me," Cedar Island Ranch, located at 3557 Cedar Island Rd, Cedar Island, NC 28520, USA, presents itself as a potential gateway to the Outer Banks and a destination rich in natural experiences. With contact numbers (252) 650-8050 and +1 252-650-8050, this RV park has garnered positive feedback regarding its location, amenities, and activities, alongside a recent cautionary review concerning pricing and customer service. This detailed introduction aims to provide local users with an objective overview of the environment, services, features, and important considerations based on available customer reviews.
The Rural and Incredible Environment of Cedar Island:
Cedar Island Ranch is situated in a rural setting, described by one reviewer as "INCREDIBLE!!!" and a "gateway to the Outer Banks." This suggests a location that offers a departure from more developed areas, providing a tranquil and natural environment. The proximity to both a "stunning beach" and a "beautiful bay" indicates a diverse coastal landscape with opportunities for various water-related activities. The surrounding area is likely characterized by the unique ecosystems of the North Carolina coast, potentially including salt marshes, diverse birdlife, and the open expanse of the bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The emphasis on packing all necessary food and supplies due to the rural location highlights the importance of self-sufficiency while enjoying the natural isolation and beauty of Cedar Island.
Services and Amenities Catering to RV Campers:
Based on customer reviews, Cedar Island Ranch offers RV campsites, some of which are located on the bayside near a dock, providing the unique opportunity to fish directly from your campsite. This waterfront access is a significant amenity for fishing enthusiasts. The presence of a "NICE!!! CLEAN & large" dog park is a notable feature for RVers traveling with pets, indicating a dedicated and well-maintained space for dogs to exercise. The campground is also reported to be dog-friendly, extending to the beach, making it an ideal destination for pet owners. While specific details about hookups (water, electricity, sewer) at the bayside RV sites are not explicitly mentioned, the ability to camp with an RV suggests that at least some level of essential services is available. The mention of fishing and enjoying wildlife from the campsite implies a focus on outdoor living and connecting with nature.
Unique Features and Activities at Cedar Island Ranch:
Cedar Island Ranch boasts several unique features and activities that contribute to a memorable experience. The "coolest horse back riding experience imaginable," including a 90-minute ride with a water crossing, is a standout attraction, with reviewers recommending it highly and even going multiple times. The horses are described as "healthy, beautiful & well trained," suggesting a professional and enjoyable equestrian experience. Another remarkable feature is the opportunity to witness "WILD CATTLE ON THE BEACH," an unusual and memorable sight that adds to the unique character of the location. The easy access to the beach, either by a short walk or a quick drive to the parking lot, allows guests to enjoy the sandbars and tiny islands that emerge during low tide.
Furthermore, Cedar Island Ranch serves as a convenient point to access Ocracoke Island via a two-hour ferry ride. This excursion is highly recommended for its beautiful views and the attractions of Ocracoke Island itself, including restaurants, shops, and sightseeing opportunities. The overall atmosphere is described as "RELAXING" with a "plenty of variety" of activities, from fishing and beach outings to horseback riding, wildlife viewing (otters, birds), and exploring nearby islands. These features cater to a wide range of interests, making Cedar Island Ranch an appealing destination for a diverse group of RV travelers.
Important Considerations Regarding Pricing and Customer Service:
While the majority of the reviews highlight the positive aspects of Cedar Island Ranch, a recent review raises a significant concern regarding pricing and customer service. This reviewer recounts an experience of being allegedly misled about the total cost of the reservation, paying an amount they were told was the full charge, and then being contacted later for an additional payment. Upon canceling the reservation shortly after booking due to the price discrepancy, the reviewer claims to have been shortchanged on the refund, with the RV park citing a "policy" of keeping one night's fee even though the cancellation occurred within 40 minutes of booking and was due to the park's alleged misquote. This experience serves as a cautionary tale, advising potential visitors to "Beware" and suggesting that the reality might not always align with expectations based on pictures or initial communication.

- Confirm all costs and cancellation policies in writing before making a reservation.

- Document all communications regarding pricing and reservations.
- Consider recent reviews from multiple sources to get a balanced perspective on the current state of the RV park.

Cedar Island Ranch Reviews
Cedar Island Ranch is like the gateway to the Outer Banks. Rural & INCREDIBLE!!! Pack your fridge with good food and go enjoy an absolutely stunning beach, beautiful bay, & the coolest horse back riding experience imaginable. This is rural so pack everything you need including all of your food. We camped with an RV on the bayside near the dock and fished from the back of our campsite, watched otters swim and enjoyed seeing fish, crab, & birds everyday from our campsite. The dog park is NICE!!! My favorite one so far for my sweet puppers: CLEAN & large. The beach is dog friendly, too - so he had the time of his life! The beach is not a far walk but there's a parking lot so we drove with our chairs, parked there, and spent several hours on the sandbars/tiny islands that pop up when the tide is out.Watching the WILD CATTLE ON THE BEACH was insane!!! Do NOT skip the horse back ride: we went TWICE; both times the 90 minute ride with water crossing. Their horses are healthy, beautiful & well trained.Make reservations ahead of time for the Ferry & go see Ocracoke Island. The 2 hour ferry ride alone was worth it for the beautiful views and the island was very fun - had lots of restaurants, shops & sightseeing. This is a RELAXING vacay with plenty of variety from fishing to the beach, horse back riding, watching wild cattle, riding the ferry, watching otters, birds, and so forth. We will be back next year & can't wait!!!
Apr 28, 2025 · Anne McCabeThis used to be a nice place with friendly people. It has changed. I was misled about the cost when I called to make my reservation. I paid what they told me was my total, including the extra charge for them not to move me to a spot other than the one I reserved. Shortly thereafter they called me and said they had only charged me for part of the cost. I then canceled my reservation and asked for a refund. They said ok. I checked to make sure the refund was issued. It was $87 short. I called back and they informed me that their "policy" is to keep one night's fee. When I reminded them that the reservation had been made and canceled within 40 minutes, and they had misquoted me, their response was that it didn't matter. My reason for sharing this is to say Beware. Some people and places are not quite what they seem in the pictures.
Apr 30, 2025 · Robin HayesOur guide, Sam, took our group of 4 on a very enjoyable beach ride this past Saturday. The horses were lovely and Sam was a great guide. I’d love to do this ride again. Thanks Sam!
Apr 24, 2025 · Angela WoernerI use the RV camping area. Wifi is spotty, so have ur own hot spot, but fishing is good and very walking close to the ocean. I go at least once a month from spring to fall.
Apr 04, 2025 · Debi HillMy husband & I camped in our Travel Trailer for 5 days. We absoutely loved Cedar Island Ranch actually, we are already making plans to return. Marci & Ron were so friendly and always around to answer any questions we had. Will, our horse wrangler, was very knowledgeable about the horses. During our horseback ride we were able to see the wild cows and wild horses that roam the beach!! The campground is very well maintained as well as the bathhouses.
