Indian Woods Campground, nestled in the heart of Normangee, Texas (address: Normangee, TX 77871, USA), offers a range of amenities and a location that caters to both short-term visitors and longer stays. You can reach them at (936) 855-2222 or their mobile number +1 936-855-2222 to inquire about availability and make reservations.
Located within easy reach for those searching for "RV parks near me," Indian Woods Campground provides a convenient base, particularly for attendees of events at the nearby J5 Pasture Palace. According to a recent visitor, its handiness for such occasions is a definite plus. The campground offers full hookups, ensuring a comfortable and convenient stay for RV travelers with all the necessary connections for water, electricity, and sewage.
For families and those seeking recreational activities, Indian Woods Campground features a playground for children to enjoy. A pavilion with four tables offers a shaded space for gatherings, picnics, and relaxation. Guests also have access to restrooms and showers on the premises. One of the notable highlights mentioned in a review is the access to the Hilltop Lakes pool, providing a refreshing escape during the warmer Texas months.
The environment at Indian Woods Campground offers a mix of open areas and shaded spots. Several campsites are located around the outer loop of the campground, benefiting from natural shade. This can be particularly appealing during the hot Texan summers, offering a cooler and more comfortable outdoor living space.
However, it's important to consider some aspects highlighted in customer reviews to get a balanced perspective. One recurring concern is the presence of sticker burrs, which can be problematic, especially for pet owners. It was suggested that mowing practices could be improved by bagging clippings to prevent the spread of these burrs.
Another point raised by a visitor is the unevenness of some campsites, often requiring multiple attempts to back in an RV and the use of leveling blocks to ensure a stable setup. This is a practical consideration for RVers when choosing their site and setting up camp.
The reviews also touch upon the community atmosphere within the campground. While some long-term residents are present, one visitor noted instances of some individuals not adhering to quiet hours or leash rules for their pets. It's always good practice to be aware of campground rules and fellow campers to ensure a pleasant experience for everyone.
One detailed review shared a mixed experience. Initially, the visitor found the campground "not too bad," rating it based on comparisons with other places. The review then detailed some interpersonal issues encountered with a campground helper and their spouse, including perceived unkindness, gossiping, and concerns about driving safety. These experiences highlight the importance of clear communication and respectful interactions within the campground environment.
The same review also mentioned issues with the laundry facilities, including other campers moving laundry, missing clothes, and finding someone else's dirty laundry mixed in. Additionally, there were complaints about the bathroom upkeep, describing it as "gross" with issues like a loose keypad button, grime, consistently dirty toilets, and infrequent trash removal. The reviewer also noted instances of smoking in the men's bathroom.
Furthermore, the review shared a negative experience regarding job opportunities advertised on the campground's website, which reportedly were not available upon inquiry. There were also mentions of unprofessional and rude behavior from the front desk staff, including judgmental looks and poor communication.
Finally, the review raised a safety concern about loose dogs chasing guests within the campground, originating from a specific house on the property.
Despite these negative experiences, the reviewer did acknowledge some positive aspects. The convenience for attending events at J5 Pasture Palace was reiterated, and the staff was described as "always super friendly" by this reviewer, which seems to contradict other parts of their narrative, suggesting that experiences can vary. The availability of shaded spots, the pavilion, playground, restrooms, showers, full hookups, and access to the Hilltop Lakes pool were also listed as positives.
To summarize, Indian Woods Campground in Normangee, TX, offers essential amenities for RV travelers, including full hookups, a playground, and access to the Hilltop Lakes pool. Its location is convenient for events at J5 Pasture Palace, and some sites offer pleasant shade. However, potential visitors should be aware of the reported issues with sticker burrs, uneven campsites, occasional disregard for campground rules, and the negative interpersonal and facility maintenance experiences detailed in some reviews. It is recommended to contact Indian Woods Campground directly at (936) 855-2222 or +1 936-855-2222 for the most up-to-date information on availability, policies, and any ongoing improvements.

Indian Woods Campground Reviews
Honestly, it wasn't too bad at first. It is rated 2 stars because we compared it to other places we had seen. We were not happy with their "helper" or whatever (J.P) was not very nice. He was alright at first, but after receiving some help (water bottles and a ride) we decided to take matters into our own hands and ride the bike to the store, he (or his wife) thought it was genius to gossip about it to the office. We weren't a fan of him and his wife treating us differently after that day. They began to cuss a lot more and generally not as kind as they were initially, and that's me being nice about it. All we wanted to do was not be so reliant on others (our vehicle broke down and had to be sent to the shop). There's nothing wrong with being independent, but apparently, they didn't like it. When we had to ask for a ride, (office told us to ask em regardless) JP told us to load up his propane and tie it off (not that big of a deal- helping out who helped us) but his wife driving like she has no driving experience, (or angry) slamming on the brakes and turning quickly, caused the propane to shift free of the straps and blamed my boy for his tying! Maybe don't drive so reckless with propane, then!! I had extreme anxiety just riding in her truck as she was driving in a 12 minute ride (24 roundtrip) to pick my boyfriend up.To top things off, our laundry kept getting moved around by others in the camp ground,(not cool) and some of our clothes were missing (definitely wasn't in the tiny camper we had). The button on the keypad kept falling off, and we couldn't access the laundry room and someone else had the nerve to put their dirty, sandy, stained clothes into our clean laundry bags with ours and left it there (at least this time it wasnt stolen). Sadly, it belonged to one of their workers (it had their hilltop lakes golf course shirt in it). So ya can't even trust any of their workers to be respectful.Bathroom upkeep was gross. It's like they never really cleaned it, but I just checked it (I've seen their cleaner show up a few times, but there was no change in the bathroom). I WISH I would've taken photos before leaving, the mirror seemed to be installed improperly, there's grime in the corners, toilets always dirty, and trash isn't consistently taken out. People smoking in the mens bathroom and we had to wash his clothes even if his bathroom trip was less than 5 minutes, it stunk so bad.Initially, we moved there for jobs since we saw their advertisement on the website. After applying, they said they did not have any jobs available for me but only for my boyfriend, and then changed their website...The first few nights there, I decided to shave the sides of my hair to keep cool for the texan summer, the lady at the front desk literally introduced me to her replacement, as my boyfriends gf "or whatever"!!! It's not like I was dressed as a boy or acting as one... She kept shooting me glances, her eyes sliding up and down my body with a sour look (I know the judgemental looks all too well since body language is literally my deaf culture) he clearly told her I was his girlfriend. Incredibly rude!!!I came in with my grandma since she stayed at the hotel for one night before we left Hilltop, and her demeanor in front of my grandma was completely different - FAKE!She calls my boyfriend to let him know she was going to be loaning a heater for the cold nights (finally something nice) within the hour or hour and half.... she shows up less than a half hour later while he was in the showers (1/10 communication). She rudely tried to open the door and peer inside my camper after I opened my door. I let her know that he was in the shower and didn't know what else she wanted me to do since she just stood there glancing behind me after handing me the heater. She treated me as though I had no idea how a simple plug-in heater works, told me to wait for him to plug it in for me... 🙄🙄🙄🙄Also, beware loose dogs chasing you. They dont leash their pets! Pics below show the house it came from and followed us on foot/bike/car.
Jan 30, 2025 · Micia BurfordThe Good:This place is handy when staying a night or two for dances at J5 Pasture Palace and the staff is always super friendly. Some spots are shaded (mostly around the outside of the loop). Pavilion with 4 tables, playground, restrooms, showers, full hookups, access to the Hilltop Lakes pool. The Bad:BUT...sticker burrs are usually a BIG problem, especially for the fur babies. When mowing, they should bag the clippings and get rid of them instead of spreading seeds for new plants. The sites are not very level and usually takes a few back-ins to find the best spot and leveling is required. Some long-term dwellers and some of them don't observe quiet hours or leash rules.
Sep 09, 2024 · Denise Vajdak (NativTxn)Very unlevel sites. Bathhouse was ok, but the showers were tiny and dirty. The grounds had sticker burrs everywhere and it made it hard to take the dogs for walks. Lighting for night time was very limited. The playground was good and it was pretty quiet and the other campers were polite. Camp host was nice and helpful. If you need just to quick overnight or you're visiting family that live in hilltop lakes it will do.
Jul 06, 2024 · Hayley CarnageyNice, beautiful area to camp, boat, cycle and hike. Maintenace crews should take better care around personal property, (damaged my RV septic line and refuse to finish it), treat for ants and limit people dumping entire households of furniture at the dumpster. I don't enjoy watching dumpster divers on vacation. If you can ignore those.. a great spot !
