Riffles RV Park & Campground

4488 Pacific Heights Rd, Oroville, CA 95965, USA

Look, it’s not a bad place to camp (especially if you’re by yourself and not a lot of campers), but this is not your traditional campground where you drive in, one table for each camper, several bathrooms, organized, etc. The camping spot is anywhere you want along the Feather River and it’s by an event venue (big tent and camping tables), not sure if they rent the space and open for campers at the same time, but in my weekend, there was just us. Restroom/shower is kinda far away (there’s only one by the way, same door for both) and looks like the water pump was not working (so zero water for shower and flush). You can hear some shots from the other side of the river (maybe a gun range?) and also the road at night, just FYA. - Felipe Bedulli

Riffles RV Park & Campground Introduce

Riffles RV Park & Campground, located at 4488 Pacific Heights Rd, Oroville, CA 95965, USA, offers a distinctive outdoor experience for those searching for "RV parks near me" or a unique camping opportunity in the Oroville area. This introduction aims to provide an objective and detailed overview of the park, drawing upon direct information and customer feedback to highlight its environment, services, features, and specific considerations for potential visitors.

The environment at Riffles RV Park & Campground is a significant draw, characterized by its direct proximity to the Feather River. This riverside setting is a key feature, offering scenic views and abundant opportunities for outdoor activities, particularly fishing. The landscape is described as featuring rolling grassy terrain interspersed with oaks, sycamores, and other mature trees, providing natural beauty and shade. The area itself has a rich history, being originally dredged for gold in the 1800s, with nature having since reclaimed the land. This natural reclamation contributes to a picturesque and tranquil atmosphere, often described as a "hidden gem" in the Northstate, celebrated for its peace and tranquility. Wildlife abounds in the area, offering opportunities for wildlife watching and bird watching. The Oroville State Wildlife Area is directly across the river, further enhancing the natural appeal and recreational possibilities.

As for services and features, Riffles RV Park & Campground caters to both RVs and tent campers. The park offers full hookups, including water, sewer, and electrical connections (30 and 50 amp service), which are essential amenities for RV travelers. There are a reported 12 sites available that can accommodate both tents and trailers. Additionally, some sources indicate a larger number of tenting sites and RV sites (up to 91 total with 85 full hookups), suggesting a varied capacity for different types of campers. Amenities also include restrooms and showers, though one review notes that the restroom/shower facility might be somewhat far from certain camping spots and that water pump issues have occasionally affected water availability for showers and flushing. A dump station is also available for RV waste disposal. The park also features a boat launch, which is a significant advantage for those interested in water activities on the Feather River, such as boating and fishing. Wi-Fi availability is noted in some sources, which can be a valuable service for staying connected.

Beyond traditional camping, Riffles RV Park & Campground serves a dual purpose as an event venue. It features a large tent and camping tables, suggesting facilities for gatherings, weddings, parties, and reunions. One reviewer, a wedding DJ, highly praises Riffles as a favorite outdoor venue, further cementing its reputation as a picturesque and functional space for events. This dual nature means that while campers can enjoy the natural setting, they should be aware of the potential for events to be occurring simultaneously, which could affect the overall atmosphere. However, the same reviewer also noted that during their weekend stay, only their group was present, suggesting that shared usage may not always be an issue.

Specific details from customer reviews offer additional insights. One review highlights that it's "not a bad place to camp," especially for solitary campers or when there are not many other campers present. It emphasizes that this is "not your traditional campground where you drive in, one table for each camper, several bathrooms, organized, etc." Instead, camping spots are more flexible, allowing campers to set up "anywhere you want along the Feather River." This indicates a more informal and less structured camping experience, which some may prefer for its freedom, while others might miss the organized layout of conventional campgrounds. The review also mentions the possibility of hearing "shots from the other side of the river (maybe a gun range?)" and road noise at night, which are important considerations for those seeking absolute silence. The availability of a single restroom/shower facility with a shared door for both genders, and past issues with water pump functionality, are also noted as practical considerations.

Promotional information, including contact details, is readily available. The phone number for inquiries is (530) 534-9956, and a mobile number +1 530-534-9956 is also provided. For prospective campers or event planners, contacting the park directly is highly recommended to confirm current rates, site availability, and to inquire about any specific policies or conditions, particularly regarding the restroom facilities and any ongoing events. Pricing for RV sites is reported to be around $21-30 per night in some sources, while others suggest rates for RV sites can be around $60 per night, with discounts possibly available for Good Sam, AARP, and AAA members. Some sources also mention camping cabins that can sleep up to 6 people, suggesting a broader range of accommodation options. The park is open year-round, making it a viable option for various seasons.

Beyond the park itself, the location in Oroville provides access to a wealth of nearby attractions and activities. Lake Oroville, known for its fishing and boating, is just a few miles away. The 44.5-mile Brad Freeman bike trail is a popular local activity, as is paddling on the Feather River or the Thermalito Forebay and Afterbay. For those interested in motorsports, the Oroville Clay pits OHV riding area is a short drive away, as is a public shooting range, which may explain the sounds mentioned in one review. Historic downtown Oroville is also a short drive, offering shopping and dining options. Two local casinos provide entertainment and dining choices. These surrounding activities make Riffles RV Park & Campground a good base for exploring the diverse recreational and cultural offerings of the Oroville area.

In conclusion, Riffles RV Park & Campground offers a unique and appealing camping experience directly on the Feather River in Oroville, CA. Its strengths lie in its beautiful natural setting, opportunities for outdoor recreation, and its dual function as an event venue. While it provides essential RV amenities, potential visitors should be aware of its less traditional campground layout, the potential for noise from nearby activities, and should confirm the current status of facilities, particularly the restroom and shower services. For those seeking a tranquil, nature-immersive camping experience with river access and the flexibility of an informal setup, Riffles RV Park & Campground could be an excellent choice, especially after confirming specific details directly with the management.
