For those searching for "RV parks near me" in the vicinity of Defuniak Springs, Florida, Sapphire Island Camping & RV Park, located at 5687 US-331, Defuniak Springs, FL 32435, is an option to consider. They can be contacted at (850) 520-4757 or +1 850-520-4757. Based on the available customer reviews, the park presents a mixed picture, with positive feedback regarding cleanliness and family-friendly features contrasted by negative experiences concerning noise and management response to issues.
Defuniak Springs, situated in Walton County in the Florida Panhandle, is known for its natural springs and small-town charm. The location of Sapphire Island Camping & RV Park on US-331 suggests it is easily accessible. For those traveling through the area or looking for a stay near Defuniak Springs, its location on a main highway could offer convenience. However, potential guests should also consider the potential for highway noise when evaluating the environment.
One positive review describes Sapphire Island Camping & RV Park as "clean and well kept up," which is a significant factor for many RV travelers. The mention of a "fenced in area" for pets is also a notable feature, providing a safe space for animals to exercise. Furthermore, the presence of a "great little park for the kids" suggests that the facility aims to be family-friendly. The reviewer also noted that "everyone we have met is really nice," indicating a potentially welcoming community atmosphere within the park.
In contrast, another review presents a highly negative experience, stating, "This is not a destination. It's a place to stay only if you can't find any other place and you desperately need a partial nights sleep..." This suggests that this reviewer found the park to be undesirable for a longer stay, though the specific reasons for this strong sentiment are not detailed in this brief statement.
A more detailed negative review describes an issue involving unsupervised children, reportedly related to the owners, who allegedly damaged the reviewer's private property. The reviewer praised the camp host for being understanding and trying to help. However, they expressed significant dissatisfaction with the owners' response, claiming that the owners, who were reportedly on-site, did not address the issue directly but instead attempted to deflect blame by citing a previously unmentioned rule about tying items to trees. This review raises concerns about the management's handling of guest issues and the supervision of non-guest children within the park.
Regarding services and features, based on the positive review, Sapphire Island Camping & RV Park offers a fenced pet area and a playground for children. The cleanliness and upkeep of the park are also highlighted as positive features. However, the negative reviews do not provide specific details about other amenities such as Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, or the nature of the RV hookups (water, electricity, sewage). Potential guests will need to inquire directly about the availability and quality of these essential services.
The mention of local kids playing at the camp implies that the park may attract families and could have a more informal atmosphere. However, the negative review about unsupervised children damaging property raises questions about the park's policies regarding visitors and the enforcement of rules to ensure a peaceful and respectful environment for all paying guests.
There is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. Therefore, local users interested in staying at Sapphire Island Camping & RV Park should contact them directly at (850) 520-4757 or +1 850-520-4757 to inquire about current rates, availability, and any specific policies or amenities offered. When calling, it would be prudent to ask about:
- Daily, weekly, and monthly rates for RV sites.
- The types of RV hookups available (water, electricity, sewage).
- The availability and cost of any additional amenities such as Wi-Fi or laundry facilities.
- The park's policies regarding pets, including any restrictions beyond the fenced area.
- The park's rules and regulations concerning guests and visitors, particularly regarding noise and supervision of children.
- Any specific guidelines regarding tying items to trees or other environmental considerations.
- Whether there are any ongoing promotions or discounts for new or returning guests.
In conclusion, Sapphire Island Camping & RV Park near Defuniak Springs, Florida, appears to be a clean and potentially family-friendly option with a fenced pet area and a kids' playground. However, potential guests should be aware of contrasting customer experiences, including concerns about management response to issues and the behavior of non-guest children. Sapphire Island Camping & RV Park Reviews
Absolutely love this park! It’s clean and well kept up. Pet friendly with a fenced in area. They also have a great little park for the kids. Everyone we have met is really nice. We highly recommend staying here!
Apr 26, 2025 · Ivy RadcliffeThis is not a destination. It's a place to stay only if you can't find any other place and you desperately need a partial nights sleep, but if avoidable, I still do not recommend you make that choice. We stayed here several days in a row. Local kids, related to the owners, were allowed to come play at the camp. The unsupervised kids jumped on our private hammocks and chairs stretching them out and destroying them. The camp host was informed of the situation, was understanding and tried to help, but we're not able to make it right without the support of the owners. Host turned the issue over to the owners who were on site coincidentally that day partying with their family. Owner did not come apologize, acknowledge fix or-even-try-to-fix the issue, but instead manifests an additional piece of paper (different than what we signed and different than what is posted on the website) that said we weren't supposed to tie anything to the trees. Implying that it was our fault our stuff got destroyed by their unsupervised kids running rampant. They didn't even come themselves; they sent the camp host over to do their dirty work. Our hammocks are tree friendly and we are good stewards of nature, as are most of the camping community. Their unsupervised children (not campers) are what was messing up the peace and nature and our private property. One star was for the cute basset hound pup we met the first night an the camp host who tried to do the right thing.Update: I will not be removing my review as I am positive it was here. I labeled a google pin, so that I could come back to review.
Jan 15, 2025 · Karla GilliganIt's a nice clean campground with clean, well-done restrooms and showers. It has a small fitness area, a play park with swings, and nice club house with pool table, and other games, and a covered pavilion. Nothing fancy, but the handicapped bathroom is pretty impressive. The location is just a couple of minutes from town and a straight shot to the beaches. It is just off a busy US-331, which means some traffic noise, but managable.I would be remiss to forget how accomodating the staff was with a bike storage issue I had. Very grateful for their assistance.
Feb 17, 2025 · honakermVery nice and clean just stayed the day to rest and relax by the pool!
May 02, 2025 · Penny BialekThis is a small & well kept campground right off the highway next to I-10. The staff was friendly, facilities were incredibly clean and the campground as a whole is well taken care of. Lots of room at the park for kids to play, dog park with bags included and a good combination of both full & partial hook-ups. We will be staying again. Thank you to the staff for the great experience!
