J&D Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in the Catawissa, Pennsylvania area? J&D Campground, located at 973 Southern Dr Rt. 487, Catawissa, PA 17820, offers a range of amenities and a seemingly attractive setting, though recent customer experiences present a mixed picture. You can reach them at (570) 356-7700 or their mobile number +1 570-356-7700 for inquiries and bookings. Based on the available reviews, potential local users should consider both the positive features and the reported negative experiences to make an informed decision about camping at J&D Campground.
One reviewer who was purely visiting a paying camper described the setting of J&D Campground as "very attractive." This suggests that the natural environment and the layout of the campground are visually appealing. The proximity to notable local attractions is also highlighted, with Knobles Grove amusement park and an ice cream store being conveniently close. This could be a significant draw for families looking to combine camping with local entertainment and treats.
The campground boasts a "nice sized pond with a fountain that is lit at night," which likely adds to the aesthetic appeal and provides a pleasant visual focal point. A "playground is centralized in the camp park," indicating that J&D Campground caters to families with children, offering a dedicated space for kids to play and socialize. These features suggest a family-friendly environment with opportunities for relaxation and recreation within the campground itself.
In terms of other amenities, J&D Campground offers a pool, which is a significant attraction for campers, especially during the warmer months, providing a place to cool off and enjoy some leisure time. The presence of mini golf adds another recreational option, offering fun for all ages. Uniquely, the campground also has a "Church," which the reviewer noted is "nice and often not seen at a camp ground." This amenity might be particularly appealing to campers who value having a place of worship accessible during their stay.
However, a starkly contrasting review details a severely negative experience with the campground's management. This long-term customer, who had been camping at the same site for several years and had rebooked the same spot before leaving in previous years, encountered significant issues with their reservation. Upon their arrival, they were informed that someone had backed into their reserved site. Subsequent communication with a staff member, who was later identified as the owner, led to being promised an alternative site, only to find that site also being occupied upon further contact.
The reviewer recounts a complete lack of sympathy or effort to rectify the situation from the owner, who allegedly told them to ask the occupants of the promised site to move themselves. This occurred when the frustrated campers were only 15 minutes away from the campground after a two-hour drive. Ultimately, due to the poor handling of the situation and the perceived lack of care or attempt to resolve the error, the long-term customers turned around and went home, vowing never to return and to discourage others from giving their money to the owner.
This detailed negative review raises serious concerns about the campground's reservation management, customer service, and the owner's responsiveness to issues. The lack of a proactive approach to fixing their booking error and the apparent lack of empathy reported by the reviewer are significant red flags for potential local users. It suggests a risk of encountering similar issues, particularly with site assignments and communication.
Considering these two very different perspectives, local users should weigh the attractive setting and amenities against the potential for mismanagement and poor customer service. The positive aspects, such as the proximity to Knobles Grove, the pond, playground, pool, mini golf, and even a church, could make J&D Campground a desirable location for a family camping trip. However, the severely negative experience reported by a long-term customer cannot be ignored and highlights potential pitfalls in dealing with the campground's management.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. Local users interested in potential discounts, seasonal offers, or any other promotions at J&D Campground should contact them directly via phone at (570) 356-7700 or +1 570-356-7700. When making inquiries, it would be prudent to ask about their reservation policies, site assignment procedures, and how they handle any discrepancies or issues that may arise upon arrival. This might provide some insight into their customer service practices.
In conclusion, J&D Campground offers an attractive setting with a pond, playground, pool, mini golf, and a church, along with convenient proximity to Knobles Grove and an ice cream store, making it potentially appealing for families. However, a significant negative review detailing a complete failure in reservation management and customer service by the owner raises serious concerns about the reliability and quality of the overall experience. Local users considering J&D Campground for their "camping near me" search should be aware of these contrasting experiences and may want to proceed with caution, perhaps seeking more recent reviews or directly engaging with the campground management to gauge the current situation before making a booking.

J&D Campground Reviews
If I could give zero stars I would. I do not leave bad reviews but this one needs to be said. We have been camping here for several years, in the exact same site every year. We rebook before we leave for the same site. This year as we’re driving to the campground our friends tell us someone has just backed into our spot. I call the campground and during the conversation the staff member reveals that she isn’t in the office but she’ll let the office know to give us the site on the opposite side of our friends that we are camping with. Great! I give her about 20-30 minutes and I call back to confirm that we’re all set. She says yes you’re in 4E. Another text comes from our friends and now someone is backing into our new site that we were promised. I call back and get the same staff member I spoke with. She has no sympathy whatsoever and tells me that if I want 4E to be next to our friends that we need to tell the people in our site to move and she’s not going to do anything about it. At this point we were 15 minutes from the campground. I then find out that this is the owner and she is still not in the office. 2 hour ride there and we turned around at a gas station and went home. I would not give that woman any of my money and will never go back. Terrible service, no compassion and didn’t even make any attempt to fix their mistakes.

Aug 13, 2024 · Rick BruggerAwesome campground, always clean! Love the food trucks and mini golf! Having WiFi through out the campground is a treat. If you stay make sure to go across the street for some great ice cream and chicken fingers.
Aug 19, 2024 · larry krisanitsJ&D Campground is great! They are a family owned business that truly does take pride in their work. It is such a great place to camp and they have so many different activities to participate in, such as bingo and mini golf. They are very organized and always willing to go out of their way to make your stay perfect!
Aug 19, 2024 · Rachael ZapataExtremely clean and well kept campground. Only 3 miles from Knoebels but too far to walk and not a road safe enough to take a bike on. No shoulder. Inground pool, dog park, playground, laundry house, bath house. Small camp store but stocked with the essentials. My only negative would be they are very strict about rules like no noise after 10pm. Felt like we had to wrap things up by then. They also were strict about nothing being on the grass. Also, they charged visitors $3 apiece. My son visited with his family and had to pay 12 bucks for an evening to join us for dinner. They were camping at Knoebels. Felt like retirement community but we did see ALOT of kids. Some people may like those rules. Having said all that, we would stay again.
