Mossy Point Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking a tranquil "camping near me" experience in the Elysburg, PA area, Mossy Point Campground, situated at 479 Bear Hollow Rd, Elysburg, PA 17824, USA, offers a peaceful and serene retreat. While its smaller size distinguishes it from larger, more bustling campgrounds, Mossy Point provides a quiet and intimate setting that many campers appreciate. Its location also offers convenient access to popular local attractions such as the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area (AOAA) for offroading enthusiasts and Knoebels Amusement Resort for family fun.
The environment at Mossy Point Campground is characterized by its quiet and relatively small size, which many visitors find preferable to larger, more crowded campgrounds. One reviewer specifically noted that it was "way better than the giant parking lot of a campground at AOAA," highlighting its more intimate and peaceful atmosphere. The campground also boasts beautiful mountain views, adding to the sense of serenity and providing a picturesque backdrop for your camping experience. The natural surroundings contribute to a relaxing getaway where you can truly unwind and enjoy the tranquility of the Pennsylvania landscape.
In terms of services and facilities, Mossy Point Campground offers essential amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. The presence of "plenty of porter potties and even showers" indicates that basic sanitation needs are met. While one reviewer mentioned not using the showers due to cold weather, their availability is a definite plus for campers seeking to freshen up during their stay. A significant advantage highlighted in a review is that "every site had camper electric hookups and water spouts," providing convenience for RV campers and those who appreciate having access to electricity and water at their campsite. The free water was also noted as a positive aspect. However, it's important to note that while electric hookups are available at each site, one group of tent campers found that only one out of five sites had normal electric outlets, suggesting that the primary electrical infrastructure is geared towards camper/RV connections. For tent campers relying on standard outlets, this might be a limitation to consider.
A notable feature appreciated by families is the presence of swings for kids, offering a simple yet enjoyable form of entertainment for younger visitors. This small addition can make a big difference in keeping children happy and engaged during their camping trip.
One of the standout aspects of Mossy Point Campground, according to a reviewer, is Dan, the owner, who was described as "more than welcoming." This personal touch and friendly hospitality can significantly enhance the overall camping experience, making guests feel comfortable and well-cared for. A welcoming owner often contributes to a positive and memorable stay, and this feedback suggests that Dan goes out of his way to ensure guests have a good time.
The location of Mossy Point Campground is also a significant advantage for those interested in specific local attractions. Its proximity to AOAA makes it a convenient basecamp for offroading adventures. Additionally, it is only a short drive from Knoebels Amusement Resort, a popular destination for families seeking thrilling rides, games, and classic amusement park fare. This strategic location allows campers to combine a peaceful natural retreat with easy access to exciting recreational activities.
Despite the positive aspects, there were a couple of cons mentioned in the reviews. One camper found the firewood to be "ridiculously pricey for the amount given," which is something to be aware of if you plan on having campfires. It might be worth inquiring about firewood prices beforehand or considering bringing your own if permitted and cost-effective. Another significant drawback mentioned was the campground's website, which was described as "completely useless." The reviewer noted the absence of a map and the fact that the sites were not marked, making it difficult to get a sense of the campground layout and potentially choose a specific site based on online information. This lack of online information might necessitate direct communication with the owner for booking and site details.
Given the limited information available online, it is highly recommended that local users interested in Mossy Point Campground contact the owner directly at (570) 274-1267 or +1 570-274-1267. This will allow you to get the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding site availability, pricing, specific amenities at each site (especially regarding electrical outlets for tent campers), firewood costs, and any other questions you may have. Speaking directly with Dan, the owner, based on the positive review, is likely to provide a helpful and welcoming interaction.
In conclusion, for those searching for "camping near me" and valuing a quiet and serene environment, Mossy Point Campground near Elysburg, PA, offers a peaceful escape with beautiful mountain views. Its convenient location near AOAA and Knoebels adds to its appeal for those interested in these local attractions. While the campground provides essential amenities like electric and water hookups, porter potties, and showers, tent campers should be aware of the potential limitations regarding standard electrical outlets at all sites. The friendly and welcoming owner is a significant plus. However, the outdated website and potentially pricey firewood are factors to consider. Direct communication with the owner is crucial to obtain all necessary information and ensure a pleasant camping experience at Mossy Point Campground.

Mossy Point Campground Reviews
Camped here while offroading at AOAA. Pros: Very quiet and small site, so way better than the giant parking lot of a campground at AOAA. Plenty of porter potties and even showers. We did not try to shower due to cold weather. Every site had camper electric hookups and water spouts, loved the free water, however, out of the 5 sites between the group only one had normal electric outlets, and we were all tenting. Loved the swings for the kids.Cons: Firewood was rediculiosly pricey for the ammount given. They really need to update their website, it's completely useless. Not even a map and the sites are not marked.
Oct 28, 2024 · Julia ShevchenkoAbsolutely great experience. Site was exactly what we were looking for with peace and serenity, beautiful Mountain views and only a short drive from Knoebels. Dan, the owner was more than welcoming. I would highly recommend this Campground.
Jun 23, 2024 · William MorganWe LOVE Mossy Point! We stayed here last month as our very first time camping as a family, in a tent no less, with young children. There were lots of young families and everyone was so friendly. Our site was level and grassy. It rained heavily and NO mud at all.The enclosed outdoor shower was perfect on a rainy night. Also very affordable and close to knoebels.Thank you Dan! We will be back next year :)
Aug 21, 2021 · Ashley TurnerWe wanted to camp near Knoebles, but their prices are ridiculously expensive. Especially for just wanting to set up a tent with no connections. So I called around, and this campground was the only reasonably priced place that was nearby. The gentleman who led us to our site was wonderful, and I enjoyed talking to him. He pointed out where everything was, and bade us a good night (since we checked in very late). The grounds are nice and accommodating. Fire ring, picnic table that seems nice and new. And a more primitive bathroom and shower, but there regardless. I'm looking forward to coming back more to just camp, rather than just somewhere to sleep for the night.
Sep 20, 2020 · Anne MitchellI absolutely loved this beautiful little gem. This is a family owned campground with a lovely story of a son who fell in love with a small corner of his family's land. He took this morsel and decided to share it with others. He raised his family here and resides on the premises so if you need anything he is but a phone call away with his trusty pooch.Although primitive in nature, the campground does offer electric, water and restrooms. All sites are well maintained and shaded by the lush trees. The sites are bordered on both sides by two peaceful babbling spring fed streams. This little oasis is a must visit and only minutes from Knoebels.
