Surf Outpost - Malibu Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "RV parks near me" that offer a unique camping experience with breathtaking ocean views in the Malibu area? Look no further than Surf Outpost - Malibu Campground, situated at 25801 Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu, CA 90265, USA. You can reach them at (310) 456-6052 or +1 310-456-6052 to inquire about availability and make reservations for an unforgettable coastal getaway.
Surf Outpost - Malibu Campground provides a distinctive opportunity for "ocean camping," as highlighted by a delighted visitor whose camper was positioned to face the ocean, creating a backyard-like experience with the Pacific just across the street. This prime location offers not only stunning vistas but also the soothing sounds of the ocean, enhancing the overall camping ambiance. For those seeking "RV parks near me" with scenic beauty as a top priority, Surf Outpost certainly delivers with its captivating overviews from different levels of the campground.
The campground caters to both RV and tent campers. According to a visitor's observation, the first two levels are designated for RVs, while the third level is reserved for tent camping. This zoning allows for a diverse camping community while potentially offering different experiences based on the chosen accommodation type. The availability of XL spots indicates that the campground can accommodate larger RVs, such as a 40ft trailer, making it a viable option for a wider range of RV owners searching within the "RV parks near me" category.
Beyond the picturesque setting, Surf Outpost boasts a "really pretty neat" general store. This on-site amenity is appreciated for its convenience and unique offerings, particularly its selection of spices, which one visitor enthusiastically purchased. A well-stocked general store can significantly enhance the camping experience by providing essentials, snacks, and even unique local items, reducing the need for frequent trips outside the campground.
The staff at Surf Outpost have received high praise for their exceptional niceness and helpfulness. Positive interactions with campground staff can greatly contribute to a pleasant and stress-free stay, making visitors feel welcome and well-cared for. This aspect of customer service is crucial for any "RV park near me" aiming to create a positive and memorable experience for its guests.
For those who enjoy leisurely strolls, Surf Outpost offers a "nice little walking trail" located right behind some of the camping spots. This provides an opportunity to explore the natural surroundings and enjoy the fresh ocean air without having to venture far from your campsite. The mention of the area being "a little laminated at night time" might refer to the lighting or perhaps a dampness common in coastal environments, something to be aware of for evening activities.
Down on the ground level, Surf Outpost provides communal areas designed for relaxation and socializing. These spots are equipped with chairs, lights, picnic tables, and even an area to play games like bags (cornhole). This thoughtful provision encourages interaction among campers and creates a convivial atmosphere, making it more than just a place to park your RV but a community space to enjoy.
Surf Outpost has garnered loyalty from visitors who appreciate its "epic views," "good vibes," and convenient location just minutes from First Point Malibu, a renowned surfing spot. This proximity to a popular local attraction makes the campground an ideal base for surf enthusiasts and beach lovers exploring "RV parks near me" in the Malibu area. The positive energy and welcoming atmosphere contribute to its status as a "favorite local getaway."
However, it's important to note a recent experience shared by a returning visitor regarding a change in policy concerning the types of vehicles allowed. Despite having stayed multiple times before with a GMC Safari (which they considered their RV), they were unexpectedly turned away upon arrival because their vehicle no longer qualified as an RV according to the updated rules. This incident highlights the importance for prospective visitors to confirm the specific vehicle requirements and any recent policy changes directly with the campground when making a reservation. While the front desk staff were described as kind and apologetic, the dismissive attitude of the male owner unfortunately soured the experience for these loyal customers. This feedback underscores the need for clear and proactive communication regarding any changes in campground policies to ensure a smooth and positive experience for all guests.
Despite this negative experience, the returning visitors expressed hope for Surf Outpost's continued success, suggesting that the overall appeal of the campground remains strong. Their feedback serves as a valuable reminder for the management to prioritize clear communication of policies to avoid similar frustrations for future guests.
In conclusion, for those actively searching for "RV parks near me" in Malibu, California, Surf Outpost - Malibu Campground offers a compelling option with its stunning oceanfront location, well-appointed general store, friendly staff, and community-oriented amenities. The availability of both RV and tent sites, including XL spots, caters to a variety of camping preferences. However, prospective visitors should be diligent in confirming vehicle eligibility and any updated campground policies directly with the management at (310) 456-6052 or +1 310-456-6052 before making a reservation to ensure a seamless and enjoyable stay at this beautiful coastal campground.

Surf Outpost - Malibu Campground Reviews
Decided to try ocean camping. Cool part is , is that my camper is facing the ocean. It’s like having it in your back yard. Even though it’s right across the street. Nice little walking trail also right behind my spot. It’s a little laminated at night time. The store is really pretty neat. They have some unique items especially in the spices. So yes, I bought some. Staff has been exceptionally nice and very helpful. I took a walk throughout the park. Looks as though the first two levels are for rvs and the 3rd one is tent camping. The overviews are beautiful. Down on the ground level they have some spots together with chairs, lights, picnic tables, area to play bags. Looks like a real nice area to chill. My trailer is 40ft so they do have XL spots. Not to sure how many. I got lucky and got a really nice spot. Some things are open in Malibu and this campground is one of them. I would visit them again. Thanks for a wonderful stay:)
Apr 24, 2025 · Rachel DownsWe’ve been loyal visitors to Surf Outpost RV Park since the rebrand—my girlfriend, our two dogs, and I have loved staying here for the epic views, the good vibes, and the convenient location just minutes from First Point Malibu. The general store is always well-stocked and the overall energy of the place has made it a favorite local getaway for us.After the fires, we were especially eager to return and support the business. We called ahead, booked our spot as usual, and made the trip out—only to be turned away upon arrival because our GMC Safari apparently no longer qualifies as an RV. This was surprising and frustrating, especially since we’ve stayed there multiple times before with the same vehicle and weren’t informed of any policy change when we made our reservation. There was no mention of it on the website either. The front desk staff were kind and apologetic, but unfortunately, the male owner was dismissive and unhelpful, which really soured the experience. We totally respect a business updating its rules, but clearer communication and a bit more understanding would have gone a long way.We genuinely hope Surf Outpost continues to thrive—we just hope they improve how they communicate changes to their guests moving forward.
Apr 19, 2025 · Rama McCabeThis place could be so cool. And honestly, the operator is doing all that they can. Clean, great communication, sweet little store with quality food etc. The problem is you might as well be camping next to the 405 fwy. We were in the premium sites closest to the ocean and the road noise is deafening. It decreases around 10pm but the rest of the time, it's cars cars cars. Again, great spot but the traffic kills it
Aug 04, 2024 · Rolf GehrungMy girlfriend and I recently stayed in the tent area and we couldn't believe how beautiful it was, we are from China and the hospitality shown by Bryan and Fern was exceptional. Would visit again.
Apr 11, 2025 · roshi novaThe new Surf Outpost (rebranded from Malibu Beach Resort) is so amazing! I can’t say enough about the breathtaking views, a beautiful new grassy area overlooking The Pacific and with ambient lighting, a store with all the essentials for anything you may have forgotten, or didn’t know you needed. The staff, especially Elijah, couldn’t have been more gracious to us!! Our Entegra Esteem had new shocks installed, which is adding a new level of difficulty to the auto-leveling feature on “uneven” ground. So I asked if there were any other site that could accommodate us, and Elijah found us the perfect site!!
