Akron Canton Jellystone Introduce
For local users seeking "camping near me" in the Akron or Canton, Ohio area, the Akron Canton Jellystone Park, located at 12712 Hoover Ave NW, Uniontown, OH 44685, presents itself as a destination geared towards family fun with a variety of activities and accommodation options, including cabin rentals and campsites. However, recent customer reviews offer a mixed perspective, highlighting both the engaging activities and friendly staff alongside concerns regarding cleanliness, inaccurate information, and some operational policies.
One reviewer who opted for a cabin rental described it as a "great summer escape" and noted the comfort of the beds. While they mentioned that the floors were consistently dirty, they rationalized this by acknowledging the nature of camping and appreciated the presence of a shower. A significant positive highlighted in this review was the abundance of activities for children, including a pool, park, and scheduled fun events throughout the day, every day. The staff was also commended for being "helpful and kind," leading to an overall recommendation of the campground.
In contrast, another reviewer expressed significant disappointment with their experience, despite initially wanting to like the Yogi Bear-themed park. This reviewer was part of an extended family group that booked four campsites and a cabin. While they did acknowledge that the activity staff were "very friendly" and that a lot of activities were planned, numerous other issues detracted from their stay. One surprising observation was the number of empty campsites during their Thursday to Monday visit in August, which is typically a peak camping season.
A significant point of frustration for this reviewer was the inaccuracy of the campground map available online and the amenities listed on the mobile app. Specifically, they noted the absence of a dog park, which was a disappointment for pet owners in their group. Regarding the campsites themselves, while described as "nice," some members of their party experienced trouble with the electrical amperage. For those relying on electricity for their RVs or other camping equipment, this could pose a significant inconvenience.
Guests who stayed in the cabin also reported a concerning issue: strong sewage smells whenever water was run. This type of environmental problem can severely impact the comfort and enjoyment of a stay, particularly in enclosed accommodations. The pool was another area of mixed feedback. While its lining's color gave an initial impression of dirtiness, the reviewer clarified that it was actually very clean and enjoyed by the children. However, the pool operations included mandatory 15-minute breaks every hour or so, requiring everyone to exit the pool, which was described as "miserable for parents with young kids."
The review also detailed several instances of questionable customer service. The reviewer's parents were reportedly questioned oddly about paying for ice they had purchased at the store. Furthermore, an ice delivery ordered to their site took two hours and required a second reminder. A particularly negative interaction involved a staff member being "rude" about the requirement to wear wristbands for the entire trip. The reviewer understood the need to prevent unauthorized use of facilities but found the persistent wearing of wristbands, especially for a multi-day stay with paying guests, to be "ridiculous" and the staff member's tone when addressing campers as "uncalled for."
This wristband policy reportedly caused significant distress for the reviewer's seven-year-old daughter, who has extreme sensory issues and sensitive skin due to cancer treatments. When the reviewer explained that their daughter could not wear the wristband, the staff member allegedly stated, "Well she can't do anything in the campground without it," causing the child to become tearful and afraid to move around. Adding to the frustration, the family was also charged $89 to use the pool despite wearing wristbands (this charge was later refunded upon the reviewer's intervention).
The reviewer concluded by expressing that the numerous issues encountered were unacceptable given the cost of staying at Akron Canton Jellystone, comparing it unfavorably to a state park experience that cost significantly less and was more enjoyable. They advised potential campers to "be cautious when spending your hard-earned money to camp here."
Considering these reviews, Akron Canton Jellystone appears to offer a range of family-oriented activities and a generally helpful staff (with the noted exception of the wristband incident). The presence of cabin rentals and campsites caters to different accommodation preferences. However, potential local users searching for "camping near me" should be aware of potential downsides, including concerns about cabin cleanliness, the possibility of inaccurate information regarding amenities, potential electrical issues at campsites, sewage odors in cabins, and operational policies like the mandatory pool breaks and strict wristband requirements that may impact the overall experience.
No specific promotional information was included in the provided reviews. Local users interested in learning more about Akron Canton Jellystone, including current rates, availability, activity schedules, and any special offers, should contact them directly at (330) 877-9800 or +1 330-877-9800. It would also be prudent to inquire about the accuracy of their online information regarding amenities and any recent updates to their policies or facilities based on the feedback provided in these reviews.
In conclusion, Akron Canton Jellystone offers a family-friendly concept with various activities and accommodation options. While some guests have appreciated the helpful staff and engaging environment for children, others have encountered significant issues related to cleanliness, inaccurate information, infrastructure problems, and potentially rigid operational policies. Local users considering this campground should weigh these contrasting experiences and conduct further inquiries to determine if it aligns with their family's needs and expectations for a "camping near me" getaway.

Akron Canton Jellystone Reviews
Cabin rentals are a great summer escape. The floors are always dirty, but you’re camping and there’s a shower so that makes it better to sleep in the beds at night. Very comfortable. Lots for the kids to do. Pool, park, fun things on schedule all day everyday. The staff is helpful and kind. Highly recommended
Mar 03, 2025 · Sarah EdwardsI really wanted to like this Yogi Bear, but unfortunately there were just too many things that weren't well done. My extended family all booked here. In total we had 4 campsites and a cabin. Before I explain some of the not so nice things, I will say that the activity staff were all very friendly and they had a lot of activities planned. I was shocked that many of the camp sites were empty our entire stay Thursday to Monday. The camp map online and the amenities found on the mobile App are not accurate, so keep in mind there is no dog park which was a disappointment. The camp sites are nice, but some of us had trouble with the electric amps. When water was run in the cabin, there were strong sewage smells. The pool appears to be dirty because of the color of the lining however it was very clean and the kids enjoyed it. My parents purchased ice at the store and then when they went to put it in their car were questioned oddly on if they paid for it. When we ordered ice to our site it took 2 hours and a second attempt to remind them we ordered ice. What really turned us off was how rude one of the workers was about wearing out wrist bands. I understand that they do not want people coming in and using their facilities off the street but wearing the same wrist band for your entire trip is ridiculous. AND then yelling at campers who pay way to much to be there anyway is uncalled for. My oldest daughter (7 years old) has extreme sensory issues and sensitive skin from cancer treatments and when I told the lady she could not wear her wrist band she said " Well she cant do anything in the campground without it" My daughter was in tears terrified to even move around the campground. Oh and even with our wrist bands on my family was still charged $89 to use the pool. (Yes, I was refunded but only because I caught the automatic charge to my account). The pool staff takes a 15 min break every hour or so and this means everyone has to get out of the pool. This made life miserable for parents with young kids. For the amount this place costs you don't expect to have these kind of issues arise. My family went to a state park for 1/4 of the cost 2 weeks prior and enjoyed it more. Be cautious when spending your hard earned money to camp here.
Jul 01, 2024 · Chelsy OlsenThe campgrounds were immaculate, and many of the staff members were warm and inviting. However, some could benefit from a bit more training- sometimes, a smile can make all the difference. We primarily chose this location for the advertised dog water park, but we were disappointed to discover, after checking in and setting up camp, that there was no such facility. Despite, this the campground is lively and offers a variety of activities to enjoy.
Jul 01, 2024 · Erika LurzWe had so much fun here! It was perfect for all age groups we have a family of 5 and everyone had the absolute best experience! Lacy and Lori are workers at this location and they really went above and beyond to make campers feel right at home! All of the staff members are top notch!
May 27, 2024 · Hannah BylerOur extended family had a WONDERFUL time at your park. Ages of 5 grands from 3 to 11 and they ALL enjoyed the pool, mini-golf, train, huge indoor sandbox, candy BINGO, gaga ball and the bear visits! Our sites were HUGE and well-shaded, with a nearby playground and lots of grassy play areas. The camp store was very well-stocked and fairly priced, as well as the pool snack bar for pizza and ice cream. We appreciated the 15-minute safety checks every hour for the pool staff, and that gave us a chance to re-apply sunscreen to our kiddos and for everyone to get a small snack/drink. The ice/firewood deliveries to our campsites were timely and everyone was so friendly and pleasant. Bathrooms are very clean and stocked. The town of Hartville is 5 minutes away and has everything you may have forgotten or need! (Must chk out the Hartville Market Place & Flea Market…the freshest local produce!) The only disappointment was the newly-advertised dog park was not complete/open yet, and we were looking frwd to that for pup. But, all and all, this is a VERY clean, well-maintained and friendly campground and we truly enjoyed our stay here! Hope to come back when we’re in Ohio again!
