For local users in search of "camping near me" that offers a blend of natural beauty and recreational activities, Nimisila Campgrounds, located at 5668 Christman Rd #5546, Akron, OH 44319, USA, presents an appealing option. You can contact them at (330) 867-5511 or +1 330-867-5511 for inquiries and reservations. This campground provides a traditional camping experience with a focus on its natural surroundings and opportunities for outdoor pursuits.
The environment at Nimisila Campgrounds is characterized by a large, mature pine forest, offering campers a picturesque and shaded setting. The campsites are spread throughout this beautiful woodland, providing a sense of immersion in nature. This environment is particularly attractive to local users seeking a tranquil escape from urban life within the "camping near me" category. The abundance of trees contributes to a serene atmosphere and provides natural separation between many campsites.
One of the key features of Nimisila Campgrounds is its lake, which is reportedly good for bass fishing. This makes it a desirable destination for local anglers looking for a nearby fishing spot combined with a camping experience. Additionally, the lake is popular for kayaking, offering another recreational activity for visitors to enjoy. The presence of a lake suitable for both fishing and kayaking enhances the appeal of this campground for outdoor enthusiasts in the local area.
In terms of services and amenities, it is important for local users to be aware that Nimisila Campgrounds offers a more rustic camping experience. According to recent feedback, the campground does not have shower houses or running water available for campers. Therefore, visitors must bring their own water supply. The restroom facilities consist of pit toilets. This information is crucial for those accustomed to campgrounds with more developed amenities when searching for "camping near me". Campers should plan accordingly and come prepared with their own water and be comfortable with the available restroom facilities.
A notable recent improvement at Nimisila Campgrounds is the addition of more electric campsites. Previously, there were only six sites with electric hookups, but this number has been increased. This upgrade is beneficial for local users who prefer or require electricity for their camping setup, particularly those with RVs or other electrical needs. However, it's important to note that the campground does not offer full hookups, meaning there are no on-site water or sewer connections at the individual campsites. There is a dump station available for RV trailers and similar vehicles, which is a valuable amenity for those traveling with their own sanitation systems.
For families with children, Nimisila Campgrounds features a kids' playground, providing a dedicated space for younger visitors to enjoy recreational activities. This family-friendly amenity adds to the campground's appeal for local families looking for a "camping near me" option that caters to children's needs.
Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the presence of a few hiking trails within the campground area. While the extent and difficulty of these trails are not specified, they offer an opportunity for local campers to explore the surrounding pine forest on foot and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. The availability of hiking trails adds to the outdoor recreational options at Nimisila Campgrounds.
The layout of the campsites is described as being spread out, with many of them being quite deep. This suggests that while the campground is located within a forest, efforts have been made to provide some space and privacy between individual camping areas. This can contribute to a more enjoyable and less crowded camping experience for local users.
Regarding accessibility for larger recreational vehicles, one reviewer noted that while it is manageable, Nimisila Campgrounds might not be ideally suited for very large RVs. Local users with big RVs should inquire about site sizes and accessibility when making reservations to ensure a comfortable fit.
It is crucial for local users planning to camp at Nimisila Campgrounds to take note of a significant caution regarding peak holiday periods. One reviewer strongly advises against staying at the campground around holidays such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, or Labor Day. They reported experiencing unruly crowds and parties that continued until late at night (3 am) during these times. Furthermore, it was mentioned that there is no 24/7 patrol of the campground. This information is vital for local users who prioritize a peaceful and quiet camping experience, especially during busy holiday weekends.
In summary, Nimisila Campgrounds offers local users a natural camping experience within a mature pine forest, featuring a lake suitable for bass fishing and kayaking. The recent addition of more electric campsites is a positive development. However, it is essential for potential visitors to be aware that the campground does not provide shower houses or running water, and restroom facilities consist of pit toilets. Campers must bring their own water. The presence of a kids' playground and a few hiking trails adds to the recreational appeal. While the campsites are generally spread out, large RVs might find maneuverability challenging. Local users seeking a quiet stay should exercise caution when booking during major holidays due to reports of noise and lack of continuous campground patrol.
For local residents looking for a "camping near me" option that emphasizes nature and basic amenities, Nimisila Campgrounds can be a good fit, particularly for those interested in fishing, kayaking, and a traditional camping feel. However, it is crucial to be well-prepared for the lack of running water and shower facilities and to consider the potential for crowded and noisy conditions during peak holiday times. Contacting the campground directly for specific site information and any current advisories is recommended for local users planning a visit.

Nimisila Campgrounds Reviews
My family and I Camp here at least once a year. Love to fish here. Lake is good for bass fishing. This lake is also popular for kayaks. The campground has zero shower houses and running water. You must bring your own water. They have pit toilets. Last year they recently added more electric sites which is nice because there was only 6 sites previously with electric. Dog friendly. Kids playground. A few hiking trails. Camp sites are throughout a large mature pine forest. It’s beautiful. There is a dump station for RV trailers etc. NOTE: I do NOT recommend staying here around holidays like memorial, independence, or Labor Day as I’ve experienced unruly crowds and parties till 3am. Nobody patrols the campground 24/7 here.
Jun 21, 2024 · Ohiogardengoddess 1984They updated more sites to electric now. No full hookups, no potable water on site. There is a dump station. Sites are spread out enough and many of them are pretty deep. Plenty of trees. Not great for big RVs but it is manageable. Bathrooms are pit toilets so I am enjoying having an RV
Jul 27, 2024 · Kevin HerrickWe enjoyed our primitive tent camping time at Nimisila campgrounds. The pit toilets are very clean and spacious, not what you'd expect from such a small campground. Summit metroparks definitely need to put in a shower house and a clean water faucet for drinking water. It's hard for tent campers to bring enough water for a week. Overall beautiful setting on the lake and campgrounds. Possibly even add a few more campsites. We will definitely be back.
Feb 03, 2025 · CaDThis place is absolutely beautiful to spend a day with the kids strolling around the lake. I would definitely suggest not forgetting the bug spray as it is a lake, so there are mosquitoes. They are not as bad as other lakes. Also, packing a picnic is a fun idea for the family. They have the little outdoor charcoal grills for public use. Just clean up after yourself when you're done. This place is always beautiful and clean and friendly.
Nov 05, 2024 · GorJes SamblanetI tried to reschedule my date due to an unforeseen issue a week before we went camping. I simply wanted to switch to a later date, I was not asking for a refund. I was directed to Bonnie, the representative, via email. She told me that they could not reschedule me and would not give me a valid reason other than “it’s policy.” I read the fine print in the disclaimer on the website and in my confirmation email and it did not state anywhere in either place that they would not reschedule. I do not recommend this campground due to the customer service and also there are no bathroom facilities nor are there any shower facilities. It is primitive. Also, The attendant at the gate is extremely rude. They are far too strict for what you get and are unrealistic with many of the rules, such as allowing cars to idle to charge devices. Yet, no one seems to care if loud children wake everyone up at 6am or people cruise through the campground at night when no one is there at the gate being loud and obnoxious for the paying campers. Do not camp here, it isn’t worth it.
