The Lake Campground Introduce
For local residents in and around Norton, Ohio, seeking a "camping near me" option, The Lake Campground, located at 2678 S Hametown Rd, Norton, OH 44203, USA, offers a lakeside setting that appears to be popular with families, particularly during the summer months. However, based on recent customer reviews, it's important for prospective local campers to be aware of certain aspects, including pet restrictions, pay-per-use showers, and the campground's orientation towards seasonal renters, especially when considering stays outside of the peak season.
The environment of The Lake Campground is centered around its namesake lake, which is described as a "blast for the kids." This suggests that the lake is a primary feature, likely offering opportunities for swimming, playing on or near the water, and other family-friendly lake activities. However, one reviewer noted that rain could cause a significant increase in algae in the lake, which might impact the enjoyment and water quality at times. Local users planning to utilize the lake should be mindful of weather conditions and potential algal blooms.
In terms of services, the reviews highlight a few key points. One significant consideration for pet owners is the presence of "pet restrictions" which, according to a reviewer, made it "hard to enjoy camping with the dogs." The specifics of these restrictions (e.g., types of pets allowed, leash rules, prohibited areas) are not detailed, but local campers who travel with pets should definitely inquire about the campground's pet policy before booking to ensure it aligns with their needs.
Another notable service aspect is the "pay to use the shower" system. One reviewer expressed frustration at having to pay a quarter to use the shower after already paying the site fee, considering it an "unexpected frustration" and questioning why a basic amenity required additional payment. This is a crucial piece of information for local campers to be aware of, as it can impact the overall cost and convenience of their stay, especially for those who prefer using campground showers over their own RV facilities.
The grounds of The Lake Campground are generally "kept up pretty well," suggesting that the management maintains a certain level of upkeep. However, one reviewer also noted that "some of the equipment is looking dated" and that the "park is older and needs updating." This implies that while the campground might be functional, it might not offer the most modern or recently renovated facilities. This is something for local users who prioritize newer amenities to consider.
A significant point raised by a reviewer who stayed in early September is that "This park caters to seasonal renters, but saves a few spots for travelers staying just a few nights." This suggests that the primary focus of The Lake Campground is on long-term or seasonal residents, and the experience for short-term visitors might differ, especially outside of the main summer season. The reviewer also noted that the park was "almost deserted after Labor Day" with "lots of empty trailers without occupants," indicating a significant drop in activity and potentially fewer amenities available during the off-season.
The same reviewer described the bathroom facilities as having "vault toilets" and a "very primitive" shower. This contrasts with the earlier mention of pay showers, suggesting that there might be different types of shower facilities available, or the pay shower was also primitive. Vault toilets are typically non-flushing toilets that can be less desirable for some campers. The description of the shower as "very primitive" implies basic and potentially less comfortable facilities. These details are important for local users who have specific expectations regarding bathroom amenities.
Furthermore, the reviewer who stayed in September mentioned that "Everything else was locked up and shut down," which, combined with the primitive bathroom facilities, led them to feel that the $60 per night fee was not justified. They also noted finding "trash" at their site and around the bathhouse, suggesting potential issues with cleanliness, at least during their off-season visit. The reviewer concluded that while the campground might be "a fun place for kids in the summer," it was not a positive experience for them during their September stay.
Given the mixed reviews, it's challenging to ascertain specific "features" in the traditional sense of standout amenities. The lake is a primary feature, especially for families with children during the summer. The availability of sites for short-term travelers, even though the park caters to seasonal renters, is another feature. However, the dated equipment and primitive bathroom facilities might be considered negative features by some.
No information about promotional offers is available in the provided reviews. Local users interested in staying at The Lake Campground should contact them directly at (330) 825-4343 or +1 330-825-4343 to inquire about current rates, seasonal specials, or any discounts for local residents. It would also be prudent to ask specific questions about the pet policy, the cost and quality of shower facilities, and the availability of amenities during the time of their intended stay, especially if it is outside of the peak summer season.
For local users searching for "camping near me" in Norton, OH, The Lake Campground offers a lakeside environment that can be enjoyable for families with children during the summer. However, it is crucial to be aware of the reported pet restrictions, the additional cost for showers, the potentially dated facilities, and the campground's primary focus on seasonal renters, which might impact the experience for short-term visitors, particularly outside of the peak season. Contacting the campground directly for detailed and up-to-date information is highly recommended before making a reservation.

The Lake Campground Reviews
Overall a mixed experience. The sites are nice and wide. The lake was a blast for the kids even though rain kicked up a lot of algae. The pet restrictions made it hard to enjoy camping with the dogs. Also, having to pay a quarter to use the shower was an unexpected frustration. Not sure why I had to pay for basic amenities after already paying the site fee.The grounds are kept up pretty well even if some of the equipment is looking dated.
Jul 11, 2024 · Chris FaticaWe stayed here 9/6 and 9/7/2023. This park caters to seasonal renters, but saves a few spots for travelers staying just a few nights. It's geared to families and was almost deserted after Labor Day. Lots of empty trailers without occupants. The park is older and needs updating. The bathrooms have vault toilets and the shower is very primitive. Everything else was locked up and shut down. For $60 a night, we expected better facilities. Our site had trash and there was trash around the bathouse. I'm sure this is a fun place for kids in the summer, but it wasn't our cup of tea.
Sep 11, 2023 · S KutylaMy wife and I are members at the Lake Campground, and we have 5 children that just love it. I think the owners do a great job at making it safe and fun for all. Thank you Kris and Amy for holding people accountable for their actions, It makes for a nice peaceful place for my family.
Jul 03, 2018 · Victor MickMy family and a couple other of our family members went here this weekend. After growing up here was ready to give it a try for a weekend. Since I had been there last years ago the campground was sold to different owners. The campground needs a lot of work and updating. The couple weekend spots they have are not to nice and they are way overpriced like 60+ a night. We go to campgrounds that are full hookup with concrete pads for our camper and pay less than we did here. On top of that the owners were micromanaging every little thing they could for example we all have electric scooters that that our family loves riding around on and have never had an issue with at any campsite we have ever been too. After 3 days being there and riding all over they wanted too say our insurance doesn’t want people on electric scooters keep them at your campsite. This being said they have there kids and other kids in the campground driving golf carts around. As well as adults driving golf carts around drinking. Overall needs a lot of updating. And have a ton of open seasonal spots probably considering all of these things I mentioned I can see why. Sad to see this nice campground going in a bad direction. Hope they start upgrading and save it before it goes into the ground.
