Atlatl Rock Campground

Moapa Valley, NV 89040, USA

Beautiful area. Spot 21 and 22 are tucked back in a corner but you have to walk in all your supplies - which is worth it for the privacy. Space 22 has nice fun nooks to climb for kids and a good amount of shade. They have WATER 🌊 💦 provided at the entrance of each space. There are elevated, well maintained areas to place your tent. There are PICNIC TABLES, GRILLS and FIRE PITS. There are restrooms nearby. I heard there were showers but I never went and saw those. There were MOUNTAINS GOATS 🐐🐐 everywhere. We saw the most around 2 p.m. There were newborns the end of March. A leash is required for dogs 🐶🐕. Beautiful , desert camping 🏕️🥾. Many places to hike nearby. Lots of climbing for children. It was $10 for a day to enter the area. Sometimes local libraries will have a special to get in for free but I didn't take advantage of that. - Brittany Hickey

The provided phone numbers for the campground are (702) 397-2088 and +1 702-397-2088.

The environment surrounding Atlatl Rock Campground is consistently described as "beautiful." Located in the Moapa Valley, it is likely characterized by the dramatic red sandstone formations that the nearby Valley of Fire State Park is famous for. This desert setting offers spectacular views wherever you turn, as noted by one reviewer. The landscape provides a backdrop for a memorable camping experience, with opportunities for exploration and appreciation of the unique desert ecosystem. The presence of mountains in the vicinity suggests potential for scenic vistas and varied terrain.

One of the notable features of Atlatl Rock Campground is the provision of water at the entrance of each space. This is a significant convenience for campers, ensuring easy access to a vital resource. The campground also offers elevated, well-maintained areas for tent placement, which can be particularly beneficial in a desert environment, helping to keep tents off the ground and potentially providing better airflow. Additionally, each site is equipped with picnic tables, barbecue grills, and fire pits, enhancing the camping experience and providing the essentials for outdoor cooking and enjoying campfires.

Restroom facilities are available nearby, adding to the convenience for campers. While one reviewer mentioned hearing about showers but not personally verifying their presence or functionality, the availability of restrooms is a basic yet important amenity. Another reviewer who camped in January noted that the shower was not working during their weekend stay and that there was no hot water in the bathroom. However, they also emphasized that the bathroom was "very clean and well-maintained," indicating a commitment to cleanliness despite the temporary issue with the shower. It is advisable for potential campers to inquire about the current status of the showers when making reservations or upon arrival.

A unique and memorable aspect of Atlatl Rock Campground is the frequent presence of mountain goats. One reviewer reported seeing them "everywhere," with the most sightings around 2 p.m. They also noted the presence of newborns at the end of March, suggesting that wildlife viewing can be a significant part of the experience, particularly during certain times of the year. For those planning to bring pets, it's important to note that a leash is required for dogs, ensuring the safety of both pets and wildlife.

The campground offers both RV/tent no utilities sites, catering to a range of camping preferences. While utility hookups are not available at these particular sites, the provision of water spigots at each site is still a valuable amenity for both RV and tent campers. Some campsites are noted to be close to one another, which might be a consideration for those seeking maximum privacy. However, one reviewer highlighted the appeal of spots 21 and 22, describing them as tucked back in a corner offering more privacy, although requiring campers to walk in their supplies. For those willing to carry their gear a short distance, these spots might be particularly desirable.

For families camping at Atlatl Rock, there are additional features to appreciate. Space 22 is specifically mentioned as having "nice fun nooks to climb for kids" and a "good amount of shade," making it a potentially ideal spot for families with young children who enjoy exploring. The general area also offers "lots of climbing for children" on the natural rock formations, providing opportunities for active play and adventure.

The surrounding area offers numerous places for hiking, making Atlatl Rock Campground a great base for exploring the natural beauty of Moapa Valley and the nearby Valley of Fire State Park. The trails likely offer varying levels of difficulty and scenic views of the unique red rock landscapes and desert vegetation. Hiking and exploring the area complement the camping experience, providing opportunities for exercise and immersion in nature.

Regarding fees, one reviewer mentioned a $10 per day entrance fee to access the area. However, they also noted that sometimes local libraries have special passes for free entry, although they did not take advantage of this. It is recommended that local users inquire about any potential entrance fees or passes required for the area when planning their trip. Checking with local libraries for possible free passes could also be a worthwhile step to save on costs.

As no specific promotional information such as discounts or special offers is mentioned in the reviews, local users should contact the provided phone numbers ((702) 397-2088 or +1 702-397-2088) or visit the website of the managing authority (likely the Nevada Division of State Parks, given the proximity to Valley of Fire) to inquire about any current promotions, seasonal rates, or reservation procedures. Websites and direct contact are the best sources for the most up-to-date information on pricing and availability.

In conclusion, Atlatl Rock Campground offers a beautiful desert camping experience with convenient amenities such as water at each site, picnic tables, grills, and fire pits. The presence of nearby restrooms, the potential for wildlife encounters with mountain goats, and the proximity to hiking trails and climbing opportunities make it an attractive option for local users seeking "camping near me" in a scenic and engaging environment. While there may be occasional issues with certain amenities like showers, the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the campground are appreciated. Potential campers should inquire about entrance fees and the status of all amenities and consider the varying levels of privacy offered by different campsites when planning their visit to this unique Nevada campground.
