Some of the reviews on here are for the private RV park ACROSS the road! Folks need to review the correct facility and not the NPS CG. Seems the pvt run rv park across road has issues!Anyhoo, The Upper Echo Bay CG is run by the NPS and has a camp host. Only one loop seems to be open in winter and about 1/2 of those are rv size..rest are more suited to back in vans and tenters. Note that sites are $20/$10 senior with a 30d stay limit, all are now reserve or pay online at site, NO CASH OR CHECKS ACCEPTED, No fcfs. Trash, water, vault toilets, and an rv dump. Cell service is ok at the upper cg, but very limited at lower cg. Not sure why. - Greg D. Lind

Echo Bay Upper Campground Introduce

Are you searching for the perfect camping escape near you? Look no further than Echo Bay Upper Campground, nestled within the breathtaking Lake Mead National Recreation Area near Overton, Nevada. As a part of the 'camping near me' category, Echo Bay Upper offers a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the stunning desert scenery and enjoy the recreational activities that Lake Mead has to offer.

It's important to note that there is a private RV park located across the road from Echo Bay Upper Campground. Some online reviews mistakenly refer to this private facility, so please be aware that this introduction focuses specifically on the National Park Service-operated Echo Bay Upper Campground.

Echo Bay Upper Campground provides a well-maintained camping environment overseen by a dedicated camp host. Even during the winter months, at least one loop of the campground remains open, offering camping opportunities year-round. The available sites cater to a range of camping preferences, with approximately half of the open sites suitable for RVs, while the remaining are better suited for back-in vans and tent campers. This variety ensures that whether you're traveling in a large recreational vehicle or prefer a more traditional tent camping experience, you'll likely find a suitable spot.

When planning your stay at Echo Bay Upper Campground, it's crucial to understand the current reservation and payment system. The campground operates on a reservation or online payment system only; cash and checks are no longer accepted at the site. This modern approach ensures a streamlined and convenient check-in process for all campers. The cost per site is $20 per night, with a discounted rate of $10 per night available for senior citizens. Please also be aware that there is a 30-day stay limit in place.

In terms of amenities, Echo Bay Upper Campground provides essential services to ensure a comfortable camping experience. You'll find readily accessible trash disposal facilities to help keep the campground clean. Potable water is available for drinking and basic needs. For restroom facilities, the campground offers vault toilets. Additionally, for RV travelers, an RV dump station is conveniently located within the campground.

Staying connected can be a concern for some travelers, and at Echo Bay Upper Campground, you'll find that cell service is generally reliable. This is a notable advantage, especially when compared to the Lower Echo Bay Campground, where cell service is reported to be very limited. The stronger cell signal at the upper campground allows you to stay in touch with family and friends or access online resources if needed.

While Echo Bay Upper Campground itself doesn't offer direct lakefront access, its location within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area means you're just a short distance away from the vast expanse and recreational opportunities of Lake Mead. Whether you're interested in boating, fishing, kayaking, or simply enjoying the scenic beauty of the lake, Echo Bay Upper serves as an excellent basecamp for your adventures.

For those seeking a different camping experience or perhaps finding the Upper Campground full, the nearby Echo Bay Lower Campground offers an alternative. Situated about three-quarters of a mile from the lake, the Lower Campground provides a more rustic, first-come, first-served experience with 34 paved sites suitable for tents or RVs. Each site at the Lower Campground is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill, perfect for enjoying outdoor meals. While it lacks hookups, it does offer basic amenities such as flush toilets and drinking water. The Lower Campground's environment features palm trees and oleanders, creating a unique desert oasis ambiance, and you might even spot local wildlife.

However, it's worth noting some differences between the two campgrounds. Echo Bay Lower Campground does not offer reservations, so early arrival is recommended, especially during peak seasons. Additionally, the Echo Bay boat ramp is currently closed due to receding lake levels, which means that access for water activities might require a drive to Callville Bay, approximately 30 miles south. While the Lower Campground offers a tranquil setting, it's important to be prepared for potential summer heat and chilly winter nights. The nearby store also has limited supplies, so packing essentials is advisable.

In summary, Echo Bay Upper Campground, operating under the National Park Service, provides a convenient and well-equipped camping option within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. With its reservation system, essential amenities, and generally good cell service, it offers a more structured camping experience compared to the first-come, first-served Lower Campground. Its proximity to Lake Mead and other attractions like the Valley of Fire State Park (easily accessible from the Lower Campground, about 5 miles off Highway 167) makes it an ideal choice for exploring the natural beauty of Southern Nevada. Whether you're an RV enthusiast or prefer tent camping, Echo Bay Upper Campground welcomes you to experience the wonders of the desert landscape and the allure of Lake Mead. Remember to reserve your spot online in advance to secure your adventure in this remarkable 'camping near me' destination.
