Bass Lake Park Introduce
For local users in search of "camping near me," Bass Lake Park, situated on Fox Lanes Rd in Hinton, WV 25951, USA, presents itself as a campground with a notable location. You can reach them at (304) 466-6416 or their mobile number +1 304-466-6416 for inquiries. Based on available information, Bass Lake Park is positioned in an area rich with natural landmarks and recreational opportunities.
The environment surrounding Bass Lake Park appears to be a significant draw. Its location "just up river from Brooks Falls and opposite the Chute" suggests proximity to scenic waterfalls and potentially dynamic river currents. Furthermore, it is described as being "close to Hinton, Bluestone Dam, the merging of the Greenbrier River to the New, and Sandstone Falls via the other side of the river." This indicates that campers at Bass Lake Park have convenient access to a variety of natural attractions, including dams, river confluences, and other waterfalls. For local users interested in "camping near me" with opportunities for exploration and enjoying the natural beauty of West Virginia, Bass Lake Park's location seems promising.
One of the mentioned features of Bass Lake Park is its good fishing on the river. This would be particularly appealing to local anglers looking for a "camping near me" option that combines accommodation with recreational fishing opportunities. The presence of a riverfront location often enhances the camping experience, providing opportunities for relaxation by the water and potential wildlife viewing.
Additionally, the campground has historically hosted events, specifically mentioning celebrations for the 4th of July. This suggests that Bass Lake Park may have aimed to create a community atmosphere and provide entertainment for its guests, particularly during holiday periods. For local users seeking a "camping near me" that offers more than just a place to stay, the possibility of on-site events could be an attractive feature.
However, it is crucial to consider the more recent and concerning feedback regarding the current state and management of Bass Lake Park. One review notes that "There was a time this was a great place," indicating a potential decline in the campground's quality or management. The review raises a significant issue concerning the owner's alleged handling of a special needs relative who reportedly "wanders the park, yelling at folks, walks onto camper decks." This behavior is described as a security concern, with the reviewer advising guests to "keep your doors locked" and mentioning instances of the individual entering campers. This is a serious consideration for any local user looking for "camping near me" where safety and peace of mind are paramount.
Furthermore, the review states that expressing discomfort regarding this situation can lead to eviction ("If you say you feel uncomfortable, you're out. Period."). This suggests a potentially unaccommodating or dismissive attitude towards guest concerns. The reviewer concludes with a warning about the potential for something negative to occur and reiterates the advice to lock doors, underscoring the severity of the perceived issue.
Another review is even more critical, strongly advising against camping at Bass Lake Park. The reviewer describes the owner as a "money grubbing crook" and alleges being followed and subjected to fabricated lies aimed at damaging their reputation. This extremely negative feedback raises serious concerns about the management's integrity and treatment of guests. For local users considering "camping near me," such accusations should be taken into account, as they directly impact the potential for a positive and stress-free camping experience.
Regarding services, the first review mentions that water is turned off in the campers from October to April, although the bathhouse remains functional. This is important information for local users planning to camp during the colder months, as it indicates a limitation in on-site water availability within individual camping units. The availability of a working bathhouse is a positive aspect, providing essential facilities for hygiene during these times.
It is also noted that Bass Lake Park is "Not a public campground." The implications of this statement are not entirely clear without further context, but it might suggest specific rules, membership requirements, or a different operational model compared to publicly run campgrounds. Local users accustomed to public campgrounds might need to inquire about any specific regulations or access procedures at Bass Lake Park.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. It is unknown if Bass Lake Park currently offers any special rates, seasonal discounts, or packages to attract local campers. Given the negative feedback concerning management, it is difficult to speculate on any current promotional efforts. Local users interested in potential deals would need to contact the campground directly to inquire.
In conclusion, Bass Lake Park offers a potentially attractive environment for local users seeking "camping near me" due to its proximity to various natural attractions and past history of hosting events. However, significant concerns have been raised in recent reviews regarding the management and safety of the campground. The alleged issues with the owner's handling of a special needs relative and the accusations of dishonesty and retaliatory behavior are serious considerations that potential campers must weigh carefully. While the location and some basic amenities might be appealing, the negative feedback suggests a need for extreme caution and thorough investigation before choosing to stay at Bass Lake Park. Local users are strongly advised to contact the campground directly and seek further information or recent testimonials before making a decision.

Bass Lake Park Reviews
Just up river from Brooks Falls and opposite the Chute. Close to Hinton, Bluestone Dam, the merging of the Greenbrier River to the New, and Sandstone Falls via the other side of the river. Good fishing on the river, hosts events for 4th of July and such. There was a time this was a great place. The owner has a special needs relative they refuse to properly account for. Wanders the park, yelling at folks, walks onto camper decks... you need to keep your doors locked or he has been known to just come on in. If you say you feel uncomfortable, you're out. Period. It's just a matter of time before something happens. Lock your doors. Water off in the campers Oct-Apr, bath house works though. Not a public campground.
Oct 13, 2022 · Bo LugknutsI would not recommend anyone to camp here. The owner is a money grubbing crook who will have you followed. Make up lies and try to ruin your reputation just bc she loves drama. Stay away from this place as long as she has anything to do with it!!
Oct 26, 2021 · Lori JenkinsNot a public park. Affordable place to hook up a long term camper stay. Water shut off October to April.
