Bear Run Campground Introduce
For local residents in and around Portersville, Pennsylvania, seeking a "camping near me" experience, Bear Run Campground, located at 184 Badger Hill Rd, Portersville, PA 16051, USA, offers a conveniently situated option. With phone numbers (724) 368-3564 and +1 724-368-3564, this campground caters to RV travelers and those looking for a basecamp while visiting the Pittsburgh area, which is noted to be about 30 to 40 minutes to the south via I-79.
The environment at Bear Run Campground appears to offer a mix of accessibility and natural features. One reviewer with a travel trailer appreciated the availability of a pull-through site with full hookups (30 amps of electricity), indicating that the campground can accommodate RVs. The staff is described as "very helpful and nice," promptly addressing issues such as a water leak at the hookup, which suggests a commitment to guest satisfaction and site maintenance. The presence of a fishing pond is also mentioned, although access to it requires walking through a wooded area, which might be a consideration for some campers.
However, another reviewer provided a more critical perspective on the campground's environment and layout. They noted that Bear Run Campground is "not big rig friendly," suggesting challenges for larger RVs navigating the roads within the campground. The road leading into the campground is described as a single car width, potentially causing difficulties if encountering other campers. Similarly, the streets within the campground are reported to be very narrow. On a positive note, the parking pads at the campsites are paved, which is a desirable feature for stability and cleanliness.
In terms of services and features, Bear Run Campground offers:
- **RV Sites with Full Hookups:** At least some sites are equipped with full hookups, including 30-amp electricity, water, and presumably sewer connections, catering to the needs of RV travelers. The availability of pull-through sites is also a significant convenience for those with trailers.
- **Helpful and Nice Staff:** Positive interactions with the staff are highlighted in one review, indicating a customer-oriented approach to service.
- **Fishing Pond:** The campground features a fishing pond, providing a recreational activity for guests, although access involves a walk through a wooded area.
- **Store and Pool Area:** The presence of a store suggests the availability of basic camping supplies, snacks, and possibly other items. A pool area is also mentioned, offering a place for relaxation and recreation, especially during warmer months.
- **Curfew for Noise:** A noise curfew is in place at 10:30 p.m., indicating an effort to maintain a peaceful environment during sleeping hours. However, one reviewer noted a lack of enforcement of this curfew by other campers.
- **Playground (Limited):** The playground is described as "not much," suggesting that it might be small or have limited equipment, which could be a factor for families with young children.
- **Paved Parking Pads:** The paved parking areas at the campsites are a notable amenity, offering a stable and clean surface for vehicles.
The reviews do not provide any specific information about promotional offers at Bear Run Campground. Local users interested in potential discounts for residents, off-season rates, or any special packages would need to contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers. It is always advisable to inquire about pricing and any ongoing promotions when making a reservation.
For local residents searching for "camping near me" in the Portersville area, Bear Run Campground offers a location that is also convenient for visiting Pittsburgh. It appears to be well-suited for RV travelers needing full hookups and pull-through sites. However, potential guests with large RVs should be aware of the reported narrow roads within the campground. Families with children might find the playground facilities to be limited. The presence of a store and pool is a definite plus, offering convenience and recreation on-site. The fishing pond provides another activity, although the wooded walk to access it should be considered.
The mixed reviews regarding the campground's layout (narrow roads) and the enforcement of quiet hours suggest that while Bear Run Campground has its advantages, potential visitors should be aware of these aspects. The positive feedback about the staff and the availability of essential RV amenities are strong points. Local users planning a stay at Bear Run Campground are encouraged to call ahead to confirm site suitability for their specific type of camping unit, inquire about the pool's operating hours and any store amenities, and ask about the enforcement of campground rules, including the noise curfew.
In conclusion, Bear Run Campground in Portersville, PA, provides a local camping option with a focus on RV travelers, offering full hookups and pull-through sites. The staff is noted for being helpful. Amenities include a fishing pond, store, and pool area. However, the campground is reported to have narrow roads that may not be suitable for large RVs, and the playground is described as limited. Local users should weigh these factors and consider contacting the campground directly for more information and to address any specific concerns before booking their stay.

Bear Run Campground Reviews
We have a travel trailer. We use full hook ups for 30 amps of electricity. They had a pull through site. Very helpful and nice staff. Immediately addressed an issue with a water leak at the hook up. Recommended if you are visiting the Pittsburgh area. Just 30 to 40 minutes north on I 79.
Apr 25, 2025 · Angela GomezNot big rig friendly, have to walk thru wooded area to get to fishing pond. Rd into place is single car width, if u meet another camper u are s.o.l. no way to move over. Streets in campground very narrow. Parking pads r paved which is nice. Store & pool area was nice. Other campers were constantly walking thru our area. Curfew for noise was 10;30 p.m. The folks beside us were sitting by fire talking & laughing loudly until after midnight. Not much of a playground.
Apr 27, 2025 · Karen LubicFishing lake is a joke it's a lake in the woods and trees are growing up to the water. You can't even walk around it .yes you can go to lake Arthur nearby but .they say they just stocked it in witch you can't get a truck close enough to the lake to put fish in it. Spots are to small to enjoy the piece and quiet our neighbors where in and out of there camper and slamming the door passed midnight
Apr 27, 2025 · Lee LightcapStayed here last summer and I plan on going back. The staff is very friendly and it’s a great place to get out of town for the weekend to relax. Although I do wish they had a decent pond to fish, when I went the water was very low(less than 1-2 foot) and I didn’t see a single fish in June.
Feb 03, 2025 · Jeremy Klein (JeremyFrom412)A group of us tented here. It was the first time I’ve tented in forever! We had so much fun. The campground is kept clean and everyone is respectful. Bathroom facilities near office are kept incredibly clean!
