This suggests a camping experience immersed in nature, offering relief from the sun and a tranquil atmosphere.
Being a "primitive campground" implies a focus on a more natural camping experience with fewer developed amenities compared to full-service campgrounds. The mention of it also being a "recreation area" suggests that the location likely supports various outdoor activities beyond just camping, such as boating (indicated by the presence of a boat ramp) and potentially fishing or other water-related pursuits.

- Pit Toilets: Indicative of a primitive campground with basic sanitation facilities.
- Boat Ramp: Suggesting access to a nearby body of water suitable for boating, which could be a river or a lake.
- Day Use Area: The campground also caters to day visitors, implying it might be a local spot for picnics or access to the water.
One reviewer mentioned a minor issue with a mouse, highlighting the importance of securing belongings in any outdoor setting. However, they still indicated they would stay again, emphasizing the overall positive experience.
The Camping Experience at Big Eddy Campground:
The reviews paint a picture of a "sweet little primitive campground" that offers a pleasant and convenient experience for those looking for a more natural setting. The availability of shady spots is a definite advantage, especially during the summer. The direct access to water enhances the recreational opportunities, and the presence of bear boxes provides peace of mind in wildlife territory.
The primitive nature of the campground suggests that campers should be prepared with their own supplies and be comfortable with basic amenities. However, the essential facilities like pit toilets and the added benefit of bear boxes make it a functional and safe option for those wanting to immerse themselves in the outdoors without the full infrastructure of a developed campground.
For those searching for 'camping near me' who appreciate a more rustic experience with direct access to nature and water, Big Eddy Campground appears to be a worthwhile consideration.

Big Eddy Campground Reviews
Had no issues finding a spot - about 5 nice shady spots with short trails to the water. Be warned, a mouse made home from this location and was a pita to remove before he ate lots of curry powder and tissues. First time in 9 months having a rodent issue. I’d stay again for sure, but would be more careful in closing everything up. Bear box had gifts with was a big plus!
Jul 25, 2021 · Katie DoaneSweet little primitive campground and recreation area. Bear aware country! There are food storage boxes, fire pits (when allowed), and pit toilets. The area also allows for day use and has boat ramp.
Oct 15, 2017 · Jim TBeautiful campground. Very quiet .close to clark fork river .
May 17, 2021 · Lisa RandlesNice boat launch. Day use has 1 picnic table (carry in carry out). No amenities. Tiny beach (silty mud). Quiet and pretty. 4 spots for camping (best suited for tents), 1 spot may get a 22 foot trailer in, none level
Sep 17, 2023 · L SimpsonAfter slugging across the Idaho panhandle and the insane prices charged to out of state campers at the DNR campgrounds, finding this campsite was a "sight for sore eyes".This is a small 5 site FSCG with one pit toilet. It is a bit tight, but I was able to park our 30 ft 5th wheel fine. I wouldn't try anything bigger. There is a boat launch and day area too.A pleasant forested area with a fine mix of firs, some pines, and to my surprise cedar trees too. There is no charge here, but there is also no trash or regular maintenance, so pack it out and leave a clean campsite.
