Kootenai River Outfitters Reviews
My family had a great experience with Kootenai, even in the chilly month of March. I've been fishing tons of times and know my way around a spinning rod,but had never actually fished with a fly rod. The short class gave us all the essentials needed to get the fly close to where we were aiming, and what to do once a fish was hooked. They didn't go into concepts and different equipment that, while undoubtedly useful, has no bearing on what we were there to do.They were able to put us on fish every trip down the river, and kept things moving and pointing out interesting things about the river, the community, whatever we wanted to talk about. There's a danger in locking yourself into 4 hours on a small boat with a stranger. A very real danger of regretting your decision 20 minutes in and desperately thinking of a plausible excuse to get him to drop you off at shore. That was my greatest fear. Honestly, I didn't have that thought run through my head until realizing that it never did as we were unloading the boat at the end.The biggest miracle was that they turned my 11 year old niece into a fisherman.....a FLYfisherman! Being able to make fly fishing interesting and fun enough that an 11 year old girl would go out fishing on her own without parental urging is a minor miracle (I asked her that exact question, and I'm pretty sure she wasn't just saying what she thought I was trying to hear, she's not shy about speaking her mind).I highly recommend these guys, especially if you have kids you want to teach how to fish.
