Dorr Skeels Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking a charming and well-maintained camping experience in Montana, within the 'camping near me' category, Dorr Skeels Campground, located at Dorr Skeels Rd, Troy, MT 59935, USA, offers a delightful retreat. This campground stands out for its focus on tent camping, clean amenities, and a picturesque setting that includes a swim beach with stunning mountain views. If you're looking for a serene spot for a weekend getaway or a refreshing day trip, Dorr Skeels Campground is worth considering.
Environment and Scenic Beauty:
Dorr Skeels Campground is described by visitors as "very cute," suggesting a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing environment. A significant highlight is its location, offering a "beautiful view of the mountains" that can be enjoyed from various points within the campground, including the swim beach. The presence of trees and the overall layout contribute to a pleasant natural ambiance, ideal for those looking to escape into a scenic setting. The campground's environment seems conducive to relaxation and enjoying the outdoors, with the mountains serving as a breathtaking backdrop.
Services and Facilities:
One of the consistently praised aspects of Dorr Skeels Campground is the cleanliness of its facilities. Visitors have specifically mentioned "clean bathrooms," which is a crucial factor for a comfortable camping experience. Additionally, the tent campsites are described as "clean and well kept," indicating a level of maintenance that contributes to a positive stay. While one review mentions an "out house," it's important to note the plural "clean bathrooms" in another review, suggesting the presence of more than just an outhouse, potentially including vault toilets or similar facilities. The availability of "lots of picnic tables scattered amongst the trees" further enhances the convenience and enjoyment of outdoor dining and gatherings.
Features and Activities:
A key feature of Dorr Skeels Campground is its "nice little swim beach." This provides a wonderful opportunity for visitors to cool off during warm weather and enjoy the water. The beach is characterized as having a "nice shallow area" and a "rocky, no sand" bottom. This information is helpful for those planning to swim, as it sets expectations regarding the beach's texture. The availability of a swim beach with mountain views adds a unique and appealing element to the camping experience, allowing for relaxation by the water with a stunning natural panorama.
It's important to note the campground's policy regarding pets on the swim beach: "no dogs allowed on the swim beach." This is a crucial piece of information for dog owners planning to visit, especially if they intend to spend time by the water. While dogs may be permitted in other areas of the campground (as indicated by the note "Dogs have to leashed"), the restriction on the swim beach should be considered when planning activities.
The campground seems well-suited for tent camping enthusiasts, given the specific mention of "TENT ONLY sites" being clean and well-kept. This focus suggests a quieter and perhaps more traditional camping atmosphere without the presence of RVs. While hiking isn't explicitly mentioned as a feature of the campground itself, one reviewer mentioned going "hiking" before stopping by the campground, implying that the surrounding area may offer opportunities for outdoor exploration. The campground appears to serve as a pleasant base for enjoying the natural attractions of the region.
Promotional Information and Why Choose Dorr Skeels Campground:
For local users browsing the 'camping near me' category, Dorr Skeels Campground offers a charming and well-maintained option for tent camping and enjoying a swim beach with beautiful mountain views. The emphasis on cleanliness, particularly of the bathrooms and campsites, provides a comfortable and pleasant environment. The "cute" atmosphere and the scenic backdrop make it an appealing destination for individuals, families, or groups looking for a relaxing outdoor experience.
The swim beach, with its shallow area, is particularly attractive for those who enjoy swimming and water activities. While the rocky bottom and no-sand condition are worth noting, the opportunity to swim with a mountain vista is a significant draw. The abundance of picnic tables scattered among the trees suggests that the campground is also well-equipped for day trips and enjoying meals outdoors in a picturesque setting.
Dog owners should be aware of the "no dogs allowed on the swim beach" policy and the requirement to keep dogs leashed within the campground. However, for those primarily interested in tent camping, enjoying the swim beach (without dogs), and taking in the mountain scenery, Dorr Skeels Campground presents a lovely option. It seems ideal for those seeking a clean, well-kept, and visually appealing camping experience focused on tent camping and enjoying the waterfront.
The campground's description as a "nice little day trip" destination also suggests its accessibility for local residents looking for a quick escape to nature, even if not for an overnight stay. Dorr Skeels Campground Reviews
Very cute campground, clean bathrooms, clean and well kept TENT ONLY sites, nice little swim beach with beautiful view of the mountains, no dogs allowed on the swim beach which was a bummer for us because we went hiking and it was hot and I couldn't leave my pup in the car. But nice little day trip for us as a stop by on the way home.
Aug 30, 2023 · A Nelson (DZ Dog Mom)We go there to swim, nice shallow area, rocky,no sand. Lots of picnic tables scattered amongst the trees. Out house. Dogs have to leashed.
Jul 12, 2024 · Lisa SabolNice place to relax and swim. Only there is not enough room with all the boats pulled up near the beaches. You have to share space with many others. Most people are nice and met some nice folks there.
Jul 16, 2021 · Gayle Francis (Lynn)Gem of a place... 7 campsites.. Hiking in area..
Jul 27, 2018 · Darren KonsorIf kindness killed, you would be safe forever with this camp host! I've stayed in dozens of campgrounds and never met such a cantankerous person. She needs a different job- I think Prudhoe Bay needs a camp host.
