Black River Harbor Campground Reviews
One of the best UP recreational areas that I have been to. Located along the Superior coast line with the Black River flowing through it. Numerous waterfalls, picnic areas and swimming beach. Pit toilets and running water at campsites. Most deffinatley will be back in the fall. As of August '20 the boat launch was still under construction.
Sep 03, 2020 · Ben GordonNew asphalt loop with new asphalt approaches to each site. Beautiful location on Lake Superior. No road noise, clean vault restrooms.
Sep 30, 2024 · Lawrence BrownPicturesque deep hemlock forest campground, nestled upon a ridge overlooking Lake Superior. The campgrounds give you close proximity to the historic harbor and lakefront, the Black River and it's multiple scenic waterfalls and gorge, and access to the North Country Trail. It feels like an outdoor enthusiasts Paradise, but with way less visitors than Porcupine Mountains State Park, which is about 6 miles to the east of the Black River.
Jul 14, 2018 · Greg MowattBeautiful area. Camp sites are a nice size! They also feel somewhat private because of the trees between sites. Ours (#23) had a path that led to a scenic look out, and another path which led to the cliff/edge which overlooks superior. Worth mentioning are the awesome fire pits! Good size with awesome cooking racks. Camp host was very nice. Campground is close to the harbor and tons of hiking trials, most of which lead to the several waterfalls along the river. Copper peak is also just up the road, which is a must stop. Photos and videos do not do it justice. Here you can also hit up the mountain bike trails, which are awesome! The only downsides were that the bathrooms weren't cleaned one time. I know, pit toilets are what they are, but I've been to more rustic sites that are cleaned every couple of days. These said they were cleaned on the 7th, and we left the 13th with no cleaning. Toilet was pretty gross...Not to the campgrounds fault, but the beaches were closed to swimming/basically any activity because of a sewage leak up in Bessemer? Not cool at all. Chilling by the beach and swimming in superior was half the reason we went. Also not cool was that there was no water available for the season due to covid. Something about no one to run a pump? I guess they put it on the websites, and it was posted when we entered the campgrounds, but an email to those who had reservations would have been extremely appreciated. Same goes for the sewage leak/closed beaches.
