What an excellent camp ground. Very close to Missoula. In the middle of beautiful canyon. They are great flat campsites and several adorable cabins. This place sells ice and wood. It has rentals for all types of floats and is right along the blackfoot. We stayed in cabin #3 which has a large jetted tub! The beds were comfy and the staff were all very friendly and helpful! - Jennifer Barger

Blackfoot River Outpost Introduce

Looking for a camping or cabin experience close to home? Blackfoot River Outpost, located at 4237 McNamara Lane in Bonner, MT, presents itself as a conveniently situated option within the 'camping near me' category. Just a short distance from Missoula, this campground boasts a location in the midst of a beautiful canyon and directly along the scenic Blackfoot River. However, it's important for local users to be aware that reviews regarding this establishment are mixed, presenting both positive and significantly negative experiences.

On the positive side, one reviewer described Blackfoot River Outpost as an "excellent camp ground" due to its proximity to Missoula and its stunning setting "in the middle of beautiful canyon." This suggests that the location offers both accessibility to urban amenities and immersion in a natural, picturesque environment. The reviewer also highlighted the presence of "great flat campsites," which are typically desirable for both tent and RV campers seeking level ground for comfortable setup.

Adding to the accommodation options, Blackfoot River Outpost features "several adorable cabins." This provides an alternative to traditional camping for those seeking more comfort and shelter. One reviewer who stayed in cabin #3 specifically praised it for having a "large jetted tub," comfortable beds, and friendly and helpful staff. The presence of jetted tubs in some cabins suggests a touch of luxury and relaxation that could be appealing for a weekend getaway.

In terms of services and amenities, the positive review mentions that Blackfoot River Outpost "sells ice and wood," which are essential supplies for many camping and outdoor activities. The availability of these items on-site adds convenience for campers, reducing the need to travel elsewhere for these necessities. Furthermore, the outpost offers "rentals for all types of floats" due to its prime location "right along the blackfoot." This is a significant feature for those looking to enjoy the river, whether for leisurely floating, fishing, or simply enjoying the water. The Blackfoot River itself is a renowned waterway, known for its beauty and recreational opportunities.

However, it is crucial to consider the strongly negative feedback provided by another reviewer. This individual described Blackfoot River Outpost as "hands down the worst place ever" unless one appreciates "dirty places and dirty people." This is a serious accusation that potential visitors should not ignore. The reviewer claimed that the "cabins smell" and that the people are "ignorant and snobby." Furthermore, they alleged a highly concerning situation where they were "locked in the gate and not let you out till they feel like it!" Such an experience would undoubtedly create a "very uncomfortable feeling the whole time" and raise significant safety concerns.

The negative reviewer also expressed a strong warning against bringing children to this location, stating, "Would never recommend IF you have kids!" This suggests that, in their opinion, the environment or the behavior of individuals at the outpost might be unsuitable or even potentially unsafe for families with children. The feeling of being constantly watched, either "on camera or just being watched," as mentioned in the negative review, could contribute to an unsettling and unwelcome atmosphere for any visitor.

Given these starkly contrasting reviews, local users considering Blackfoot River Outpost should approach with caution and a balanced perspective. The positive review highlights appealing aspects such as the location, flat campsites, cabin options with amenities like jetted tubs, and the convenience of ice, wood, and float rentals. The proximity to Missoula is also a significant advantage for those who appreciate having access to city amenities while enjoying a natural setting.

On the other hand, the negative review raises serious concerns about cleanliness, staff behavior, and even safety. Allegations of being locked in and the strong discouragement against bringing children are particularly troubling. It's possible that these represent isolated incidents or subjective experiences, but they nonetheless warrant careful consideration.

Without further information or more recent reviews to provide additional context, it is difficult to definitively assess the current state and overall quality of Blackfoot River Outpost. Potential local users might consider looking for more recent reviews on other platforms to gain a broader understanding of current visitor experiences. It might also be prudent to contact the outpost directly using the provided phone numbers, (406) 244-2618 or +1 406-244-2618, to inquire about their policies, cleanliness standards, and security measures. Asking specific questions based on the concerns raised in the negative review could provide valuable insights.

In conclusion, Blackfoot River Outpost offers a potentially attractive option for local camping and cabin rentals due to its convenient location near Missoula, its setting in a beautiful canyon along the Blackfoot River, and amenities like float rentals and the availability of ice and wood. The presence of cabins, some with jetted tubs, adds to its appeal. However, the existence of a highly negative review detailing serious concerns about cleanliness, staff behavior, and safety cannot be ignored. Local users should weigh these contrasting perspectives carefully and conduct further research, if possible, before making a decision about staying at Blackfoot River Outpost. It is essential to prioritize safety and comfort when choosing a campground or cabin rental for yourself and your family.
