Looking for the perfect camping escape close to home? If you're searching for "camping near me," Blue Creek Campground, nestled at 13400 E 390 Rd, Claremore, OK 74017, offers a delightful lakeside experience right here in Oklahoma. With easy access and a range of amenities, it's a popular choice for local campers seeking relaxation and outdoor adventure.
Blue Creek Campground boasts a prime location that caters to various outdoor interests. Situated near a beautiful lake, it's a haven for fishing enthusiasts. According to recent visitors, the fishing for crappie is excellent, providing a rewarding experience for anglers of all skill levels. A significant advantage is the campground's well-maintained boat ramp, which is notably protected from wind and waves. This feature ensures a smoother and safer launch and retrieval of boats, allowing you to make the most of your time on the water. Furthermore, a convenient dock is available for tying up your boat, adding to the ease and enjoyment of your boating and fishing activities.
The natural environment surrounding Blue Creek Campground is a key highlight. Many reviewers mention the "great lake views," suggesting a picturesque setting where you can unwind and appreciate the beauty of the Oklahoma landscape. Imagine waking up to the serene sight of the water or enjoying a peaceful evening by the lakeside. The presence of pelicans at certain times of the year adds a touch of wildlife charm to the camping experience, offering opportunities for birdwatching and nature appreciation.
In terms of services and facilities, Blue Creek Campground has been actively working on improvements to enhance the visitor experience. Recent feedback indicates that a new dump station has been completed, addressing a crucial need for RV campers. Additionally, there are reports of new picnic tables being installed throughout the campground, providing comfortable spaces for outdoor meals and gatherings. While one shower was noted as being out of order in a recent review, other restrooms and at least two showers were reported to be in fine working condition, indicating ongoing maintenance efforts.
For those planning to bring their boats, it's worth noting the improvements made to the main boat ramp, ensuring better accessibility for launching. Additionally, a small gravel ramp has been added in the B loop group camping area, which may be suitable for smaller watercraft. These enhancements demonstrate the campground's commitment to catering to the needs of boaters and anglers.
Blue Creek Campground offers a variety of camping options to suit different preferences. While specific details about the types of campsites (e.g., RV hookups, tent sites) are not explicitly mentioned in the provided information, the positive feedback from repeat visitors suggests that the campground can accommodate various camping setups. The mention of a "B loop group camping" area indicates that there are designated spaces for larger groups wishing to camp together, making it a potential option for family reunions or group outings.
It's important to consider some of the feedback regarding the campground's popularity. Several reviewers have noted that the park has become increasingly crowded, which can impact the peacefulness of the experience, especially during peak seasons. One reviewer who has camped at Blue Creek for many years mentioned that it has changed over time and is now "not very peaceful at times anymore." This suggests that while the campground offers many positives, visitors should be prepared for a potentially bustling atmosphere, particularly on weekends and during holidays.
Another point of feedback concerns the reservation system. One reviewer described it as a "joke," citing instances where people reserve spots for the entire week but only arrive for the weekend. This practice can be frustrating for other campers who may be seeking shorter stays and find limited availability. While this is a systemic issue and not directly related to the campground's physical attributes, it's a factor potential visitors might want to be aware of when planning their trips.
Despite these concerns about crowding and the reservation system, the overall sentiment towards Blue Creek Campground remains positive. The repeated visits and the appreciation for the lake views, fishing opportunities, and recent improvements highlight its appeal as a local camping destination. The availability of a phone number, (918) 341-4244 or mobile phone +1 918-341-4244, allows potential campers to directly contact the campground for inquiries about reservations, site availability, and specific amenities.
In conclusion, if you're searching for "camping near me" in the Claremore, Oklahoma area, Blue Creek Campground offers a compelling option. Its lakeside location provides stunning views and excellent opportunities for fishing, especially for crappie, with a protected boat ramp and dock. Recent improvements, such as the new dump station and additional picnic tables, demonstrate an ongoing effort to enhance the camping experience. While the campground's popularity may lead to crowds at times, and there are some concerns about the reservation system, the positive feedback regarding the environment and amenities suggests that Blue Creek Campground remains a wonderful place for a local outdoor getaway. Blue Creek Campground Reviews
We came here to go fishing for some crappie. We had a great time. Boat ramp is nice and protected from the wind and waves. The campground parking area was clean. There’s a nice dock to type you boat.
Mar 13, 2025 · Karl GIt's a nice park with great lake views. Some of the plumbing needs to be addressed. The park has become so popular It's not very peaceful at times anymore. The reservation system is a joke, when people can reserve a spot for the entire week and not show up until the weekend isn't fair to other campers. I have camped here for many years and it has changed a lot. It is a wonderful place though, just too crowded anymore. This is the first time we have been out this year 7/2022. The shower door was fixed and the plumbing was fine in 2 showers for sure. Restrooms were fine.Improvements have been made at the boat ramp, and an small area in the b loop group camping has a little gravel ramp that will work for small boats. A long time ago there was a ramp over to the east side. Hopefully the pictures will show the ramp Improvements and the small ramp. I tried to add informative pictures this time. The construction for the new dump station is complete. They installed a lot of lateral line.I noticed several new picnic tables. One shower is out of order. It's the time of year to see pelicans.
