Blue Jay Campground Introduce
Are you searching for a "camping near me" experience that combines natural beauty with a peaceful atmosphere? Consider Blue Jay Campground, located in Camp Creek, WV 25820, USA. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground is described as "very beautiful" and "peaceful," with a "very friendly" staff, making it an attractive option for those seeking a tranquil outdoor getaway in West Virginia. However, the reviews also highlight some important considerations regarding nearby attractions and amenities that potential visitors should be aware of when planning their trip.
The environment of Blue Jay Campground is consistently praised for its scenic beauty. One reviewer explicitly states, "This is a very beautiful campground!!" Another describes it as a "beautiful campground. One of the best I've been to." The natural surroundings appear to be a significant draw, offering a picturesque setting for camping. For those staying at the Blue Jay tent site 3, the "walk down to the creek behind our campsite is very easy and only a few steps," indicating convenient access to a water feature directly from some campsites. The presence of a creek nearby likely enhances the peaceful ambiance with the soothing sounds of flowing water and provides opportunities for enjoying the natural environment close to the campsite. The mention of a "breezy day" further suggests that the campground benefits from pleasant natural air circulation, adding to the overall comfort of the stay.
The staff at Blue Jay Campground are noted to be "very friendly," which can significantly contribute to a positive camping experience. A welcoming and helpful staff can enhance guests' comfort and enjoyment during their stay. While specific services offered at the campground are not detailed in the reviews, we can infer some common amenities. The mention of "Marsh Creek bathrooms for showers!" indicates that shower facilities are available, although they might be located at a different area within the broader camping area. The availability of clean and accessible restrooms and showers is a crucial aspect of any campground, and the reference to the "Marsh Creek bathrooms" suggests that these facilities are provided for guests' convenience.
One of the key features highlighted in the reviews is the proximity to natural attractions, specifically Campbell Falls and Mash Creek Falls. However, a significant warning is issued regarding the safety of visiting these waterfalls. The reviewer cautions, "if you visit Campbell falls, BEWARE it is extremely slippery. The brown algae makes it very slick and no shoe will handle it." They also note the challenging access to the water for swimming, describing a steep bank and freezing cold water that made getting out "very very difficult." A similar warning is given for Mash Creek Falls, with the rocks described as "extremely slippery" and potential "ankle breaker rocks." This crucial safety information is essential for visitors planning to explore these nearby natural features. While the beauty of these falls might be appealing, extreme caution is advised due to the hazardous conditions.
Another practical feature mentioned is the process for obtaining firewood. The reviewer advises to "make sure to come early also to visit the mash fork creek campground office to get your firewood!" This suggests that firewood is available for purchase at a specific office location, likely within a reasonable distance but not necessarily at the Blue Jay Campground itself. The recommendation to arrive early indicates that there might be limited availability or specific operating hours for the office. Additionally, the review points out the remoteness of the campground in terms of shopping, stating, "The nearest store is very far. We had to go all the way to Tractor supply in Beckley because we came too late." This highlights the importance of planning ahead and bringing necessary supplies, as convenient local shopping options may not be readily available.
Despite the warnings about the waterfalls and the distance to stores, the overall sentiment towards Blue Jay Campground is positive. One reviewer states, "Beautiful campground. One of the best I've been to." The primary critique offered is that "the tent campsites weren't so close together," especially considering the "huge" size of the state park, suggesting that some campers might prefer more spacious and private tent sites. This feedback is important for potential tent campers who value a greater sense of seclusion. However, the beauty and peacefulness of the campground seem to outweigh this concern for many visitors.
A significant recommendation is given for a nearby attraction: "HIGHLY RECOMMEND SANDSTONE FALLS!! Not too far of a drive and very very worth it!! Easy handicap accessible boardwalk." This suggests that while the immediate waterfall access near Blue Jay Campground might be challenging, a worthwhile and safer alternative is located within a reasonable driving distance. The accessibility of Sandstone Falls via a boardwalk makes it an attractive option for a wider range of visitors. This recommendation indicates that the area surrounding Blue Jay Campground offers other natural points of interest that are more easily and safely enjoyed.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available for Blue Jay Campground in the provided reviews. To obtain details about pricing, availability, campsite options (including RV sites, if available, in addition to tent sites), specific amenities offered at the campground itself, and any current promotions or discounts, it is recommended to contact Blue Jay Campground directly at (833) 997-2757 or +1 833-997-2757. When booking, it would be prudent to inquire about the layout of the tent sites if spacing is a concern. Additionally, confirming the location and hours for firewood purchase and gathering information about nearby grocery stores or other essential shopping would be beneficial for planning your stay.
In conclusion, Blue Jay Campground near Camp Creek, WV, offers a "very beautiful" and "peaceful" setting with a friendly staff, making it a desirable "camping near me" option for those seeking a tranquil natural escape. The easy creek access from some campsites is a definite plus. However, potential visitors should be aware of the hazardous conditions at Campbell Falls and Mash Creek Falls, plan accordingly for firewood acquisition at the Mash Fork Creek Campground office, and note the distance to the nearest stores. The highly recommended Sandstone Falls provides a safer and more accessible alternative for waterfall viewing nearby. While some tent sites may be close together, the overall beauty and peacefulness of Blue Jay Campground make it a strong contender for your next camping adventure in West Virginia. Be sure to contact the campground directly for detailed information and to make reservations.

Blue Jay Campground Reviews
CAMPERS BEWARE!!This is a very beautiful campground!! Very peaceful and the staff are very friendly. We stayed at Blue Jay tent site 3. The reason for the warning is that if you visit Campbell falls, BEWARE it is extremely slippery. The brown algae makes it very slick and no shoe will handle it. There’s no real entrance to the water to swim. We literally had to slide down like a water slide haha. But when we got down there the water was freezing cold and we had to get out which was very very difficult. There is only a STEEP bank. This is the same way for Mash Creek Falls, the rocks are extremely slippery. Ankle breaker rocks. Make sure to come early also to visit the mash fork creek campground office to get your firewood! The nearest store is very far. We had to go all the way to Tractor supply in Beckley because we came too late. Also visit the marsh creek bathrooms for showers! Like I said it’s gorgeous here and especially when it’s a breezy day. The walk down to the creek behind our campsite is very easy and only a few steps. Have fun!!HIGHLY RECOMMEND SANDSTONE FALLS!! Not too far of a drive and very very worth it!! Easy handicap accessible boardwalk. That is my last pic and video!
Aug 25, 2023 · Rachel LandrethBeautiful campground. One of the best I've been to. Would give 5 stars if the tent campsites weren't so close together. Especially since the state park is so huge, it's not necessary to have everyone on top of each other.
Oct 24, 2021 · Michelle AngrimsonStayed twice and both trips have been great. The dark is not my strong suit but I have been amazed on how much the stars come out. (I’m from a big city we have no stars lol) this has become my happy place and will return soon
Sep 02, 2024 · matias GuiguezVery convenient to I-77 made for an easy and enjoyable overnight stay while traveling. Nice site (No. 10 at host suggestion), clean and quiet!
Jun 21, 2023 · Adam ArchualTent only campground with wooded sites along a beautiful creek, very quiet. Good spacing between sites, with picnic tables and fire rings. There are only pit toilets nearby. Surprisingly, I had good internet service (AT&T).
