Boise / Meridian KOA Journey Introduce
For local residents seeking "camping near me" in the Boise/Meridian, Idaho region (zip code 83642), the Boise / Meridian KOA Journey located at 184 W Pennwood St presents itself as a potential option. As part of the well-known KOA (Kampgrounds of America) network, it often attracts travelers looking for familiar amenities and services. However, recent customer reviews present a somewhat mixed picture of this particular location, which is crucial for local users to consider when planning their camping excursions.
One positive review highlights several appealing aspects of the Boise / Meridian KOA Journey. The camper described the facility as "clean" and the staff as "friendly and easy to work with." This suggests that the campground prioritizes cleanliness and aims to provide a positive customer service experience. The availability of a "laundry room" was specifically noted as being "so useful," indicating a practical amenity that can be particularly beneficial for longer stays or families. Furthermore, the presence of a "pool and hot tub" was mentioned as a "great addition," suggesting opportunities for recreation and relaxation on-site. This positive feedback also praised the staff for going "above and beyond to create a great family environment," indicating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
In stark contrast to this positive experience, another recent review paints a significantly less favorable picture, raising serious concerns about the accuracy of the campground's advertising and the overall camping experience. This reviewer labeled the place as "horrible" and accused it of "false advertising." Their experience began with a smooth payment process but was followed by a lack of recognition of their reservation upon an after-hours arrival. This suggests potential issues with communication or check-in procedures for late arrivals.
The negative review further detailed discrepancies between the campground's website information and the actual conditions. The website reportedly indicated that the reviewer's 31-foot RV would not fit in a pull-through site and therefore could not be booked. However, upon arrival, the reviewer found that the RV did, in fact, fit. Conversely, the website allegedly advertised "large roomy back-in sites," which the reviewer found to be "totally false." They described the back-in sites as backing up closely to another site, leading to encroachment and insufficient length to comfortably access their own site. This raises significant concerns about the accuracy of the site descriptions provided by the campground.
Another significant point of criticism in the negative review was the condition and location of the designated dog area. It was described as being "hidden behind a shed" and being a small, fenced area "less than 8x8." This may be a crucial consideration for campers traveling with pets who expect a more spacious or easily accessible area for their dogs. The reviewer also characterized the overall location as "cramped" with "barely room for 1 vehicle on the street," suggesting potential issues with parking and maneuvering within the campground.
The reviewer further elaborated on the feeling that the campground had "jammed in as many sites as possible," potentially leading to a less spacious and more crowded camping environment than advertised or desired. Despite these numerous negative aspects, the reviewer did acknowledge one positive: the facility was "well kept clean." This aligns with the positive review's mention of cleanliness, suggesting that the campground does maintain a certain standard of hygiene.
The strongly negative review concluded by criticizing the campground for its "false advertising" and described its setting as being within a "developed apartment city setting," which may not align with the expectations of campers seeking a more natural or secluded outdoor experience. The reviewer went so far as to call it "the worst KOA ever been too," indicating a highly unsatisfactory experience based on their past encounters with other KOA campgrounds.
Considering these contrasting reviews, local users searching for "camping near me" should approach Boise / Meridian KOA Journey with caution and a balanced perspective. While the campground appears to offer clean facilities and a potentially friendly staff, as well as amenities like a laundry room, pool, and hot tub, there are significant concerns raised about the accuracy of its site descriptions, the size and location of the dog area, and the overall feeling of being cramped within a developed urban environment.
For local campers with specific needs, such as those with larger RVs or those traveling with pets, it would be prudent to directly contact the Boise / Meridian KOA Journey to clarify site dimensions, access, and the specifics of the dog area. It might also be beneficial to inquire about the overall layout and density of the campground to determine if it aligns with their preferences for a camping environment. The discrepancy between the advertised features and the actual conditions reported by one reviewer is a serious issue that potential guests should investigate further before booking.
In conclusion, Boise / Meridian KOA Journey offers some appealing amenities and appears to maintain clean facilities. However, potential local campers should be aware of the significant concerns raised regarding potential false advertising related to site sizes and descriptions, the cramped nature of the campground, and the limited dog area. The urban setting might also not appeal to those seeking a more traditional nature-based camping experience. It is recommended to weigh these factors carefully and potentially seek further clarification from the campground directly before making a reservation.

Boise / Meridian KOA Journey Reviews
Clean, friendly and easy to work with. The laundry room is so useful. The pool and hot tub are a great edition. The staff go above and beyond to create a great family environment.
Apr 18, 2025 · Eve BeebeThis place is horrible. False advertising for sure. Took my money no problem. Arrived after hours without any recognition of my reservation. Website stated my 31 ft rv did not fit in the pull through and unable to book. (when in fact it did fit) Website notes large roomy back in sites. Totally false and the back ins back up to another site who encroach on each other resulting in insufficient length to access one's site. Dog area is hidden behind a shed and is less than 8x8 fenced area. Location is cramped and barely room for 1 vehicle on the street. They have jammed in as many sites as possible. Only positive was a well kept clean facility. Shame on them for their false advertising. This facility is in a developed apartment city setting. The worst KOA ever been too.
Apr 12, 2025 · Rosemary MarnochWe have used this KOA several times over the past 2 years. Staff is super helpful. Sites and bathrooms are always clean. Sites are close together as you may expect in a KOA. We will be back again.
Mar 28, 2025 · Dan FThe Boise KOA has a lot of very friendly full timers . The accommodations were great, they have a decent sized indoor pool and hot tub, extremely clean bathrooms and a good sized laundry room. It has a huge gathering kitchen and rec room. It was quiet and appeared safe .I was hesitant to book it because other reviews said the spots were small and tight together . I don’t find that to be the case . However I do think the hook ups like the power and water are in odd spots in your site. They aren’t off to the side out of the way , they are in the gravel and very close to where you are pulling in . It’s not the size of the spot it’s the weird hook up locations. The navigation took us the most difficult way into the park but when we went to leave a lovely staff member told us the easiest way to get back on the interstate and it was SO MUCH EASIER than trying to cross 3 lanes of traffic on a busy street. If you stay I really encourage you to ask for their trick . You won’t regret it .We had stayed here twice , the first time we accidentally left our toddlers life vest when we looped back around 3 weeks later we were so pleased to see they had kept it safe for us !
Oct 05, 2024 · heather NorbisrathWhen we got here, an employee was waiting for us. She got in a golf cart and took us right to our spot. The park is clean and we'll maintained.
