Brush Lake Campground Introduce
Are you a local user in search of a truly primitive "camping near me" experience? Brush Lake Campground, located at E 6 Mile Rd, White Cloud, MI 49349, USA, might be exactly what you're looking for. Based on the available customer reviews, this campground offers a beautiful and serene natural setting with spacious sites, emphasizing a back-to-basics camping approach. If you appreciate seclusion and a less developed camping environment, Brush Lake Campground warrants your attention.
The Environment: Untouched Beauty and Serenity
The reviews consistently highlight the natural beauty and serenity of Brush Lake Campground. One camper described it as a "very beautiful, serene location that hasn't been touched (or destroyed) by human beings." This suggests an environment that is largely unspoiled, offering a genuine connection with nature. The "strictly primitive" nature of the campground implies a focus on the natural surroundings rather than extensive amenities, appealing to those who prefer a more rustic outdoor experience. While the proximity to Brush Lake itself isn't explicitly detailed, the name suggests it is likely a feature of the area, potentially offering scenic views or access to water-related activities.
Another reviewer mentioned that the "sites are spacious," which is a significant advantage for campers who appreciate having ample room to set up their tents and enjoy their surroundings without feeling crowded. The limited number of sites, estimated at around 10, further contributes to the sense of seclusion and tranquility. This makes Brush Lake Campground an appealing destination for those seeking a peaceful escape from more crowded campgrounds.
Services and Amenities: Strictly Primitive
As indicated by a reviewer who stated, "Strictly primitive! Does have a toilet," the services and amenities at Brush Lake Campground are intentionally minimal. The presence of a toilet, while not specified as flush or pit, offers a basic convenience. However, campers should expect to be self-sufficient, bringing their own water, and be prepared for a primitive camping experience. The lack of extensive development is part of the campground's charm for those seeking a more natural and less structured environment.
The review also notes, "I would take in anything larger than a 24 footer," which suggests that while the sites are spacious, maneuvering larger RVs might be challenging, possibly due to the layout or the primitive nature of the access roads. This campground seems more geared towards tent campers and potentially smaller recreational vehicles.
Features and Unique Aspects
One of the most distinctive features of Brush Lake Campground is its "honor system payment set up." According to a reviewer, "I believe it's an honor system payment set up. I've never seen a ranger back there and I remember seeing a 'insert payment here' sign similar to a usps drop box." This speaks to a level of trust and a more laid-back approach to campground management. Campers should be prepared to pay via this honor system, although the exact pricing is not mentioned in the reviews ("I don't even know the pricing").
The key features of Brush Lake Campground appear to be:
- Primitive Camping: Offering a back-to-nature experience with minimal amenities.
- Spacious Campsites: Providing ample room for campers.
- Serene and Beautiful Location: An untouched natural environment promoting tranquility.
- Honor System Payment: A unique and trusting payment method.
Activities would likely focus on enjoying the natural surroundings, such as hiking, nature observation, and potentially activities related to Brush Lake itself, if accessible from the campground.
Important Considerations for Campers
Based on the reviews, potential campers should be aware of the following:
- Primitive Nature: Expect limited amenities beyond a toilet. Plan to bring all necessary supplies, including water.
- Honor System Payment: Be prepared to pay via the self-service system, though the exact cost is unknown from this information.
- Spacious Sites: Generally large, but access for very large RVs might be difficult.
- Secluded Environment: Expect a quiet and less crowded experience.

Strictly primitive! Does have a toilet. Sites are spacious. But not many there. 10 I believe. I would take in anything larger than a 24 footer.

Jan 24, 2023 · Jake SmithBrush lake campground is beautifal peaceful cheap and worth the 10 dollar a night fee. Beautifal lake and spacious. Nice fire pits and respectful nice people. Great place for exploring and many trails for 2 tracking. Definitely great for camping and getting away from everything.
Oct 02, 2019 · JUNKYARD DAWGS OFFROAD!We camped at Brush Lake for the first time late May 2022, over the Memorial Day weekend, with our 27 ft Travel trailer. The road in is decent, especially considering we had a bit of rain in the preceding days. The forest road is one lane but maybe only a 1/2 mile back to the campground. The county road is paved and only the last mile to the forest road turn off is dirt, that's nice. The campground has looped turnarounds. We only found one site we could manage to get in, mainly because for most sites there is a 12" to 14" berm up to the roadway. If you put a TT down in there you can have trouble with getting traction to pull it out, and it can be impossible to get up on levelers. One site was ok for us. Of course, Car/Tent no problem. Bring bug nets and spray. Mosquito factory. Weed Wacker or lawn mower a plus. Good Verizon signal, 6 OTA TV channels.
May 29, 2022 · Jerry WontorcikIt didn't change much in the past 25 years but was groomed quiet and brought back so many great memories with Jim and the boys. Didn't have an out house then either. As rustic as it gets these days. Loved it!
