Buck Ridge Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Benton, Illinois area, Buck Ridge, located at Benton, IL 62812, USA, presents a compelling option as a "Nice COE campground" (Corps of Engineers campground) with a range of appealing features. With contact numbers (618) 315-3947 and +1 618-315-3947, Buck Ridge appears to offer a well-maintained and scenic camping experience, as highlighted by recent customer reviews.
One of the first aspects mentioned is the cleanliness of the campground. A reviewer noted it as "Very clean," which is a significant factor for many campers seeking a comfortable and enjoyable outdoor stay. This attention to cleanliness likely extends to the campsites and any shared facilities available at Buck Ridge.
The campground is also praised for its "wonderful camp hosts and staff." Friendly and helpful staff can greatly enhance the camping experience, providing assistance, information, and contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. For local users who appreciate good customer service, this positive feedback about the hosts and staff at Buck Ridge is a notable advantage.
For tent campers, Buck Ridge offers a specific draw with its "Large tent lot on the water." The availability of waterfront tent sites at a "very reasonable price" is particularly appealing, especially for those looking to enjoy the scenic views and potential recreational opportunities associated with being near the water. The fact that a reviewer was able to secure a spot on the Thursday before Memorial Day without a reservation for this specific area suggests that while it's popular, it might be accessible even during busier periods, although this could vary.
As a COE campground, Buck Ridge likely adheres to certain standards of maintenance and may offer amenities commonly found at such facilities. One reviewer mentioned "full hookups," indicating that some sites are equipped with connections for electricity, water, and sewage, catering to the needs of RV campers. This availability of full hookups adds to the versatility of Buck Ridge, accommodating both tent and RV camping.
Accessibility is also a consideration at Buck Ridge, with the mention of "a small handicap accessible latrine in the center of the loop." This indicates an effort to provide facilities that are usable by individuals with mobility challenges, which is an important aspect for inclusivity and accessibility for all local users.
The terrain of the campsites varies, with the reviewer noting that "Most sites are level enough but some have quite a front-to-back slope." This is practical information for campers, especially those with RVs or trailers, as it might influence site selection to ensure proper leveling for their vehicles. Tent campers should also be aware of potential slopes when choosing a site for comfort and stability.
The overall environment of Buck Ridge is described as "just beautiful" with "the trees blooming." This suggests a scenic setting, likely with mature trees providing shade and contributing to the natural beauty of the campground, especially during the spring. The "well maintained" loop road within the campground further indicates care and upkeep of the infrastructure.
Access to the lake is another significant feature of Buck Ridge. While the reviewer noted that it "is steep to get to," the presence of lake access implies opportunities for various water-related activities, such as fishing, kayaking, or simply enjoying the views of the water. Local users interested in these activities would find the lake access to be a major draw, although the steepness of the path might be a consideration for some.
Wildlife sightings are also a highlight at Buck Ridge, with campers reporting seeing "deer and turkeys." This suggests a natural environment where local fauna can be observed, enhancing the outdoor experience for nature lovers. The possibility of encountering wildlife adds an element of excitement and connection with the natural surroundings.
Navigating to Buck Ridge seems relatively straightforward, but the review provides an important advisory regarding GPS routing. Campers are cautioned that if their GPS directs them "over the dam," they should be aware that "the bridge at the spillway has a 10 ton limit." This is crucial information for local users, especially those with larger RVs or trailers, to ensure they take a safe and appropriate route to the campground.
Considering the platform category "camping near me" and the potential for "corresponding services or goods for sale," the location of Buck Ridge near Benton, Illinois, places it within reach for local residents seeking an outdoor getaway. As a COE campground, it might be associated with a larger recreational area, possibly offering additional amenities or attractions beyond the campground itself. Local businesses in Benton could provide camping supplies, groceries, and other necessities for campers staying at Buck Ridge.
Promotional information for Buck Ridge, based on the reviews, would emphasize its cleanliness, the friendliness of the staff, the availability of large waterfront tent lots at reasonable prices, the full hookups for RVs, the handicap accessible facilities, the beautiful natural setting with blooming trees, the access to the lake, and the presence of wildlife. Highlighting its status as a well-maintained COE campground could also instill confidence in potential visitors regarding the quality of the facilities and management. The advisory about the 10-ton limit on the spillway bridge should also be included in any directions or information provided to visitors, especially online.
To further attract local users, Buck Ridge could provide information on any specific regulations or amenities of the COE facility, such as boat ramps, fishing areas, hiking trails, or picnic areas. Details on reservation policies (especially given the mention of no reservations for the tent lot at a specific time), pricing for different types of sites, and any seasonal availability would also be essential for planning a visit. High-quality photographs showcasing the waterfront tent sites, the scenic beauty of the campground, and the lake access would be valuable in attracting local campers.
In conclusion, Buck Ridge near Benton, IL, offers a clean and scenic camping experience as a well-regarded COE campground. With large waterfront tent lots, full hookups for RVs, handicap accessible facilities, and access to a lake, it caters to a variety of camping preferences. The friendly hosts, the beautiful environment with wildlife, and the overall maintenance of the campground make it an attractive option for local users seeking "camping near me." However, potential visitors should be mindful of the site slopes and the weight restriction on the spillway bridge when planning their trip.

Buck Ridge Reviews
Very clean with wonderful camp hosts and staff. Large tent lot on the water at a very reasonable price the Thurs before Memorial Day and no reservations made for this stop.
Jun 02, 2018 · Cynthia Livengood-FairNice COE campground with full hookups and a small handicap accessible latrine in the center of the loop. Most sites are level enough but some have quite a front-to-back slope. The loop was well maintained and with the trees blooming was just beautiful. There is access to the lake at this loop but is is steep to get to. We saw deer and turkeys here also. Not hard to get here but be advised if your GPS is routing you over the dam the bridge at the spillway has a 10 ton limit.
