Pretty expensive for no amenities. $120 for 2 nights. We paid in-season price only to get there and find that the water was turned off. No fresh water and no running water at the dump. 50A plug wasn't accessible because the box was mangled. We tried to talk to someone about the price and water on our way out, but he basically gave us the "not my problem" attitude. Lady when we checked in was nice though. The campground section was pretty unkept. Nothing mowed.Facilities were ok. Clean and warm. And the walking/hiking trails were beautiful. We went here to test pilot a new camper, but ended up fighting the site and location more than anything. Had to re-level on day 2. The spot was so marshy that we sunk to one side.We initially tried to book an end site so it would be easier with our dog but it showed booked. Tried to call a bunch of times but no one answers. That spot we were looking at stayed vacant all weekend. - Andrea Filippelli

Camp Bullfrog Lake Introduce

For local residents in the Chicago Southland area looking for "camping near me," Camp Bullfrog Lake, situated at 9600 Wolf Rd in Willow Springs, Illinois, offers a dual experience with both traditional campsites and cabin rentals. Located within a reasonable distance for a weekend getaway, Camp Bullfrog Lake presents a natural environment with features like hiking trails and a pond, catering to various outdoor interests. However, recent customer reviews also highlight important considerations regarding amenities and site conditions that potential visitors should be aware of.

The environment at Camp Bullfrog Lake appears to offer a mix of natural beauty and some areas that may require attention. Multiple reviewers praised the "beautiful" walking and hiking trails, suggesting that the campground is located in an area with scenic natural landscapes suitable for outdoor exploration. The presence of a nearby play area for kids and a pond indicates family-friendly aspects to the environment. However, a review also noted that the campground section was "pretty unkept" with unmowed grass, which could impact the overall aesthetic and comfort of the campsites. Another camper experienced a "marshy" site that caused their camper to sink, indicating that ground conditions on some campsites may be uneven or prone to moisture. These contrasting observations suggest that while the general setting has natural appeal, the upkeep and specific conditions of individual campsites can vary.

The services and amenities at Camp Bullfrog Lake seem to be a point of contention based on recent reviews. One camper described the campground as "pretty expensive for no amenities," citing a $120 charge for two nights. This review further detailed issues such as the water being turned off during their in-season stay, resulting in no fresh water and no running water at the dump station. They also mentioned an inaccessible 50A plug due to a damaged electrical box. This paints a picture of potentially unreliable or limited utility services at some campsites. In contrast, another review described the "facilities" as "ok, clean and warm," although it's not entirely clear what facilities were being referred to – possibly restrooms or common areas. The experience appears to vary significantly depending on the specific campsite or facility being used. The positive review of the large cabin mentioned indoor bathrooms and sinks, plenty of outlets, and climate control, indicating that the cabin rentals offer more comprehensive amenities compared to the traditional campsites.

One of the notable features of Camp Bullfrog Lake, as highlighted by customer reviews, is the presence of "beautiful" walking and hiking trails. This suggests that the campground is situated in an area conducive to outdoor recreation, allowing visitors to explore the natural surroundings on foot. The mention of a nearby play area for kids and a pond also indicates family-friendly features, providing opportunities for children to play and for visitors to enjoy the water. The large cabin rental offers unique features such as an outdoor fireplace with a rotating grill top for cooking and a bundle of wood provided, enhancing the outdoor living experience for cabin guests. The cabin itself is described as clean and spacious, with multiple beds and indoor amenities, making it a comfortable option for larger groups or families seeking more shelter and convenience than traditional camping.

Promotional information for Camp Bullfrog Lake is not explicitly provided in the reviews. However, the pricing mentioned by one reviewer ($120 for 2 nights) gives some indication of the cost, although they felt it was expensive for the level of amenities received. The in-season pricing suggests that rates may vary depending on the time of year. The fact that a specific end site, preferred by a camper with a dog, remained vacant all weekend despite showing as booked, could indicate potential issues with the booking system or communication. The reviewer's inability to reach anyone by phone multiple times further suggests potential challenges with customer service responsiveness. Local users interested in potential promotions or discounts should directly contact Camp Bullfrog Lake using the provided phone numbers, (312) 636-9785 or +1 312-636-9785, or check their website or any online booking platforms they might use.

In conclusion, Camp Bullfrog Lake in Willow Springs, IL, offers a "camping near me" experience with both traditional campsites and cabin rentals, set in an environment with appreciated features like hiking trails and a pond. The cabin rentals appear to offer more comprehensive amenities and a comfortable stay. However, potential visitors considering the traditional campsites should be aware of recent reviews indicating potentially high prices for limited or unreliable amenities, unkept grounds in some areas, and the possibility of uneven or marshy campsite conditions. The challenging experience of one camper with utility hookups and the unresponsive phone communication reported by another are also important considerations. Local users are advised to weigh the appeal of the natural setting and recreational features against the reported issues with amenities and site maintenance. It is strongly recommended to contact Camp Bullfrog Lake directly to inquire about current conditions, specific campsite amenities, pricing, and to address any concerns raised in the recent reviews before making a booking decision.
