Camp Calvin Introduce
For local users in The Dalles, Oregon, and surrounding areas searching for "camping near me," Camp Calvin, located on Ward Mill Rd, The Dalles, OR 97058, USA, offers a somewhat unique camping experience based on the available reviews. Situated on private property, it appears to cater to various needs, from providing temporary accommodation during events like the Oregon Trail Rally to potentially offering a more resort-like experience with amenities, although the reviews present contrasting perspectives. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of Camp Calvin based on the information available, highlighting its environment, services, and features as described by recent visitors.
The environment of Camp Calvin seems to be flexible and adaptable based on the type of visit. One reviewer who stayed during the Oregon Trail Rally describes it as "private property" with "easy access." The mention of "grass was not mowed this last time" suggests a more natural, possibly less manicured setting in certain areas or at certain times. However, the fact that they were able to park a trailer indicates sufficient space and accessibility for larger vehicles. The other reviewer paints a different picture, mentioning a "bar was well stocked" and a "mini bike track they put in," implying a more developed recreational environment. The presence of a pool, although "out of service" during one visit, further suggests that the property might offer leisure facilities. The contrasting descriptions indicate that Camp Calvin's environment might vary depending on the specific area of the property being used or the time of year. It could encompass both open areas suitable for parking and camping, as well as more developed zones with recreational amenities. Local users should inquire about the specific environment of the area they will be using when booking.
The services and amenities at Camp Calvin appear to be quite varied and potentially dependent on the nature of the stay. For those visiting in a more self-sufficient capacity, as suggested by the Oregon Trail Rally attendee, it might be a more primitive setup. This reviewer explicitly advises to "Bring your own restrooms, water, and sleeping arrangements," indicating that these basic amenities were not provided for their group. This suggests that for certain types of stays, Camp Calvin might function as a permitted area for parking and overnighting without provided utilities or facilities. However, the other reviewer's experience points to a different set of services, including a "bar was well stocked," "beds are soft," and "staff was friendly." The mention of a "mini bike track" and a pool (even if out of service) suggests recreational amenities that would typically be found in a more developed campground or resort setting. The positive feedback about the "camp manager Kevin" going "out of his way to make sure the guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay" indicates a level of customer service that might be expected in a managed facility. The availability of a "shrimp cocktail" further leans towards the possibility of some level of food and beverage service. The stark contrast in these descriptions highlights the importance for local users to clarify what services and amenities are available for their specific type of visit when contacting Camp Calvin. It seems that the level of service might range from a basic permitted parking area to a more equipped recreational facility.
The features of Camp Calvin are equally diverse based on the provided reviews. Its status as "private property" that allows camping for events like the Oregon Trail Rally is a significant feature, making it a valuable resource for accommodating large groups or specific events in the area. The "easy access" for parking trailers is another practical feature for such events. For other types of visits, the presence of a "well stocked bar," "soft beds," a "mini bike track," and a pool (when in service) suggests recreational features aimed at leisure and enjoyment. The friendly staff and a dedicated camp manager like Kevin who prioritizes guest comfort are also noteworthy features contributing to a positive experience. The availability of what seems to be food service (shrimp cocktail) is another potential feature that sets it apart from more basic campgrounds. The contrasting nature of these features – from a basic parking area requiring self-sufficiency to a place with a bar and recreational activities – suggests that Camp Calvin might cater to different types of users or offer different levels of amenities depending on the context of the stay. Local users should inquire about the specific features relevant to their intended use, whether it's for event parking or a recreational camping experience.
In terms of promotional information, Camp Calvin could highlight its versatility in accommodating various needs, from providing accessible parking and overnight stays for event attendees to offering a more recreational experience with amenities like a bar, mini bike track, and potentially a pool. For local event organizers in The Dalles area, its capacity to host groups on private property with easy access could be a key promotional point. For individuals and families looking for "camping near me" with recreational facilities, the mention of the bar, mini bike track, and friendly staff could be attractive. However, it would be essential for any promotional material to clearly specify which amenities and services are available for different types of stays to avoid confusion, given the contrasting experiences in the reviews. Highlighting the positive feedback about the camp manager Kevin and the friendly service could also be a strong promotional aspect. If the property has scenic or environmental features, these could also be showcased to attract nature-loving campers. Given the unique blend of basic access for events and potential recreational amenities, Camp Calvin could position itself as a flexible and accommodating option for a range of local users. Direct communication with the owner or manager (possibly Kevin) would be crucial for obtaining accurate and comprehensive promotional information.
For local users considering Camp Calvin for their camping or accommodation needs, the next step is to contact the property directly to clarify the services and amenities available for their specific situation. If it's for an event like the Oregon Trail Rally, understanding the arrangements made by the organizers and any provisions by Camp Calvin would be important. If considering it for a recreational camping trip, inquiring about the availability of restrooms, water, sleeping arrangements (if any are provided), and recreational facilities like the mini bike track and pool (and its operational status) is essential. Asking about any fees, booking procedures, and specific rules of the property would also be necessary. Given the contrasting reviews, it would be wise to get a clear understanding of what to expect based on the type of stay being planned. Direct communication with the camp manager Kevin, mentioned in one review, might be particularly helpful in getting accurate and detailed information.
In conclusion, Camp Calvin near The Dalles, Oregon, appears to be a versatile private property that can accommodate different types of stays, ranging from basic parking and overnighting for events to potentially offering recreational amenities like a bar, mini bike track, and a pool. The environment and services seem to vary depending on the nature of the visit, with some requiring complete self-sufficiency and others offering more developed facilities and service. For local users searching for "camping near me," Camp Calvin presents an option that warrants direct inquiry to understand the specific amenities and conditions available for their intended use, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

Camp Calvin Reviews
Stayed during Oregon Trail Rally. Private property that we were allowed to stay on. I want to thank the owner for allowing us to stay especially for the extra night. It was easy access and even though the grass was not mowed this last time it was still wonderful to have a place to park the trailer and have someplace to stay at night while in the area. Hopefully we got it all cleaned up with our final walk through and will be able to return again. Bring your own restrooms, water, and sleeping arrangements.
Jul 23, 2023 · Dawn Chere MossNot sure what the other guys are talking about, but I found the shrimp cocktail to be rather delightful. Bar was well stocked, beds are soft, staff was friendly, and the mini bike track they put in was fun. The pool was out of service on my most recent visit, but other than that it’s great every time I visit. The camp manager Kevin really goes out of his way to make sure the guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
