Camp Catskills RV Park is under new ownership that has reportedly implemented several improvements. These upgrades may appeal to local users seeking a convenient and amenity-rich camping experience in the Catskills area. However, it's important to consider all aspects of the available feedback to form a comprehensive understanding of what the park offers.
The Environment and Setting:
One positive aspect mentioned in the reviews is that the campground is located off the main highway, which contributes to a quieter environment compared to more directly roadside locations. This could be a significant draw for those seeking a peaceful "camping near me" experience away from traffic noise. However, one reviewer noted occasional noise from nearby highway traffic and frequent campground construction equipment, suggesting that the level of quiet may vary.
The campground's location in the Catskills region implies access to the natural beauty of the area, although specific details about on-site scenery or immediate natural features are not extensively described in the provided reviews.
Services and Amenities:
Recent improvements under new ownership have brought several notable amenities to Camp Catskills RV Park:
- New Pool: A new swimming pool has been added, offering a recreational option for guests, particularly appealing during warmer months.
- New Check-in Center: The addition of a new check-in center suggests an effort to streamline the arrival process for guests.
- Security Gate: The presence of a security gate indicates a focus on the safety and security of the campground and its guests.
- Friendly and Helpful Management: Multiple reviewers describe the management as friendly and very helpful, suggesting a positive interaction with the staff.
- New Bathhouse: A new bathhouse is another significant upgrade, likely providing improved and more modern facilities for campers.
- Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is available for guests. While cable TV is not provided, a paid option for streaming is offered.
- Laundry Facilities: The campground has laundry machines, although one reviewer found the app-based payment system to be inconvenient and requiring a bank account transfer.
- Quick Maintenance Response: The management is reported to be quick in fixing issues such as broken water pipes, electric power problems, and security gate malfunctions.
These new and existing services aim to provide a comfortable and convenient stay for RVers and other campers.
Features and Considerations:
Beyond the standard services, there are several features and considerations highlighted in the reviews that local users should be aware of:
- Seasonal Campers: The campground has many seasonal campers, and some are there year-round. This can contribute to a sense of community but might also influence the availability of short-term sites.
- Parking at Check-in: One reviewer in a 34-foot fifth wheel noted poor parking conditions upon arrival for check-in, which could be a factor for larger RVs.
- Inconsistent Rule Enforcement and Management Approach: One lengthy review details serious concerns regarding the management's handling of alleged animal neglect and domestic disturbances. This reviewer also reported being evicted and alleged a condition for a full refund based on not posting negative reviews initially. These allegations raise significant questions about the management's priorities and communication style.
- Highway and Construction Noise: Despite being off the main highway, some noise from traffic and construction equipment within the campground has been reported.
- Positive Interactions with Other Campers: On a positive note, one reviewer mentioned meeting some nice fellow campers.
The stark contrast between the positive feedback regarding new amenities and friendly management, and the deeply concerning account of alleged mismanagement of serious issues, presents a complex picture for potential visitors. Local users are advised to weigh these different perspectives.
Navigating the Mixed Feedback:
The significant discrepancy in the provided reviews necessitates a careful approach for local users considering Camp Catskills RV Park. The positive aspects, such as the new pool, bathhouse, and friendly management (as reported by some), suggest that improvements are being made and that some guests have had positive experiences. However, the detailed account of alleged animal neglect mismanagement and subsequent eviction raises serious concerns about the overall management priorities and guest relations in certain situations.
Potential local users might consider the nature of their camping needs and priorities. If new amenities and a location set back from the main road are primary factors, the positive aspects of the reviews might be appealing. However, the serious allegations in the negative review warrant careful consideration and potentially direct inquiry with the campground management regarding their policies and procedures for handling such issues.
Promotional Information:
The provided information does not contain any specific promotional offers or discounts for local users. To inquire about any current specials, seasonal rates, or extended stay options, it is recommended to contact Camp Catskills RV Park directly at (518) 517-4632 or +1 518-517-4632. You can also inquire about their policies regarding pets, rule enforcement, and guest relations to address any concerns arising from the reviews.
Conclusion for Local Users:
Camp Catskills RV Park offers a location near the Catskills with recent improvements such as a new pool and bathhouse, along with friendly management as reported by some guests. The security gate and off-highway location are also potential benefits. However, the serious allegations of mismanagement of animal welfare concerns and inconsistent rule enforcement, as detailed in one review, should be carefully considered. Local users are encouraged to weigh the positive reports of new amenities against the significant concerns raised in other feedback and to conduct their own inquiries with the campground management to make an informed decision about whether Camp Catskills RV Park meets their needs and expectations for "camping near me."

Camp Catskills RV Park Reviews
A 22-day experience regretfully included witnessing what I believe to be animal neglect in a nearby trailer. Tenants returned to the trailer every 10-13 hours to feed & water their 2-3 caged dogs, letting the dogs potty on the deck. Notified the campground ("mgt") of our concerns since the dogs were persistently barking in what sounded like a distressed manner. Other campers shared same concerns & notified mgt. Mgt investigated & confirmed there were dogs caged inside the trailer, there was a stench (the deck was covered in animal waste), that one dog came out & immediately pooped a green color poop & a dog was wet with urine. Mgt told them to clean the deck, check on the dogs every 12 hours & encouraged them to buy leashes & use the dog park. The occupants were given a power washer & sprayed the waste from the deck, angrily yelling at a young girl to empty a bucket of waste behind their trailer. At this point I also notified the SPCA. Different camper(s) notified the SPCA & law enforcement. Per NY law, nothing could be done since the animals had food, clean water & shelter. Our concerns persisted over ensuing days, plus new ones arose (hearing & seeing the occupants frequently yell at & threaten to hit a young girl). After watching the same issues on repeat for a couple of weeks, I called law enforcement about both concerns. The deputies advised that they checked the animals on a prior visit and the dogs had food, water & shelter. Mgt disagreed that dogs were mistreated & was angry about the optics of having law enforcement show up as it “looks bad for business”. Considering the context, I asked them “what about the welfare of the dogs?”, plus noted that many campers had seen law enforcement at least twice at the campground to address domestic disturbances. One can be evicted by this campground "for no reason at all” as their campground document states. I was evicted in front of the two deputies & with mgt’s assurance of a refund upon leaving for the unused portion of our reservations. Mgt said they should have been called first & not law enforcement. New one for us. Never mind that 1) I had notified mgt upon noticing the issues & yet they elected to not contact law enforcement upon confirming the conditions for the dogs ; 2) none of the campers I talked to had heard mgt state such a “rule”; 3) although their lengthy set of terms & conditions list many rules that must be followed, that particular rule is missing. Upon checking out of the campground, mgt said that they would only give us a refund if we didn't “trash” them in a review. When we objected to this perceived retaliation & said that we would only post about facts and our experiences, they finally agreed to the promised refund. I told mgt that by doing the right thing plus supporting their campers trying to do the right thing for the dogs, it might help their business. I wish I had asked the managers how they would feel about putting their dog in a cage (with food & water & shelter, of course) & then letting him out for potty breaks twice a day…indefinitely…would their definition of mistreatment change? Inconsistent enforcement of the rules here, nearby highway noise and frequent campground construction equipment noise were also annoyances. On the good side, we met some nice campers here, and mgt quickly fixes broken water pipes, electric power & security gate issues.
Oct 22, 2024 · TThis is a good place to stop for a night or two. New owners that have made several improvements. New pool and check in center. Security gate and off the main highway so it's very quiet. Management is friendly and very helpful. New bathhouse too. WiFi is free no cable but you can pay a small amount for streaming. There are many seasonals and some are there all year. Poor parking when we arrived in our 34 foot 5 th wheel to check in. Laundry machines were confusing because you had to download an app on your phone and transfer money from your bank account. Too much trouble.
Aug 04, 2024 · Karen RayHad our 51st Family Reunion. They bent over backwards to make us feel welcomed. Some of the family rented, or brought there campers to stay at the campgrounds. After our reunion, rode around to look at the campgrounds. Very nice layout.
Aug 08, 2024 · Paul KaneWe held a small family reunion at Camp Catskills over the weekend with both my sister and cousin’s families bringing their own RV and my family renting one from the camp in between. I don’t know which I liked better: staff or facility. The staff was exceptional, both professional and warm and friendly. Our unit was spotless! Such a wonderful home away from home! The campgrounds were spacious and interesting to roam. In spite of the rain, we had a wonderful time and thoroughly recommend it to anyone wishing to get together with loved ones.
Sep 30, 2023 · Jonathan LuceThe campground is under new ownership. The staff and residents were absolutely wonderful. Very quiet which was a nice change. Very dog friendly, even has a new dog park. The negative is that they are in the middle of redoing the entire campground. The store had almost nothing. Many of the sites were one on top of another. They was less then 10 feet between us and the people next door. My window side had a glorious view of their trailer wall . I think that in time this is going to be a hidden gem. Would I go back, yes, but will wait till next year to see the improvements and hopefully update my review.
