Getaway Eastern Catskills Campground - Castle Road Introduce
Are you searching for a unique "camping near me" experience in the scenic Eastern Catskills? Getaway Eastern Catskills Campground - Castle Road, located at 282 Cairo Junction Rd, Catskill, NY 12414, USA, offers a different approach to traditional camping with its cozy cabin accommodations. Based on recent customer reviews, this location provides a blend of natural immersion and convenient access to the surrounding Catskill region. While the experience appears to have its highlights, potential guests should also be aware of some reported drawbacks to make an informed decision about their getaway.
The Natural Environment of the Eastern Catskills: Situated in Catskill, New York, Getaway Eastern Catskills Campground - Castle Road benefits from its location within the renowned Catskill Mountains. This region is celebrated for its diverse natural landscapes, including rolling hills, dense forests, hiking trails, and charming small towns. One reviewer noted a "good area away from people and faced the woods," suggesting that the cabins are positioned to offer a sense of privacy and immersion in the natural surroundings. The pleasant driving distance (at most 45 minutes) to more hiking areas and other towns in the vicinity indicates that guests have opportunities to explore the wider natural and cultural attractions of the Eastern Catskills. This makes it a potentially appealing base for those wanting to combine a peaceful cabin stay with outdoor adventures and local exploration.
Cabin Features and Potential Inconveniences: The accommodation at Getaway Eastern Catskills Campground - Castle Road appears to be in the form of compact cabins, as referenced by the term "house" and "cabin" in the reviews. One guest mentioned being placed in a "handicap house," indicating that different cabin types may exist. A significant concern raised was the issue of insects entering the cabin due to a screen door not being flush with the frame. This led to encounters with various bugs like wolf spiders, mosquitoes, and moths, which could be unsettling for some guests. Another notable issue reported was the strong smell of cigarettes inside one cabin and the presence of cigarette butts around the fire pit, indicating a lack of thorough cleaning or enforcement of no-smoking policies. Additionally, one reviewer found it "a bit tacky to charge for every single extra in the cabin," suggesting that certain amenities beyond the basics might incur additional costs. Guests who bring their own food might find this less of an issue, but it's something to be aware of.
Limited Services and Unresponsive Staff: A major point of criticism in the reviews is the "really bad customer service," specifically the complete unresponsiveness of staff via email and AirBnB. Multiple attempts to contact staff before and during the stay went unanswered, despite an automated email encouraging contact for any questions. This lack of communication could be a significant drawback for guests who might require assistance or have inquiries. While the location itself was deemed "really nice," the unresponsive staff significantly detracted from the overall experience, leading one reviewer to suggest it might be suitable for only a one-night stay due to the potential lack of support.
Proximity to Local Attractions: Despite the concerns about customer service and cabin conditions, the location of Getaway Eastern Catskills Campground - Castle Road offers convenient access to attractions in the region. The 45-minute driving distance to more hiking and other towns provides opportunities for outdoor recreation and exploring the local culture. This accessibility makes it a potentially attractive option for those who want a base from which to discover the Eastern Catskills. The specific attractions within this 45-minute radius would need further exploration, but the mention suggests a variety of options are within easy reach.
Mixed Feedback and Important Considerations: The customer reviews present a mixed picture of Getaway Eastern Catskills Campground - Castle Road. While the location in the Eastern Catskills is appreciated for its natural beauty and access to other areas, significant concerns have been raised regarding insect intrusion into the cabins, potential issues with cleanliness (cigarette smoke), and notably, the lack of responsiveness from the staff. Guests who are particularly sensitive to bugs or require reliable customer service might want to consider these points carefully. The "tacky" charges for extras within the cabin are also a factor to keep in mind when budgeting for the stay.
Promotional Information and Booking: The provided information does not include any specific promotional offers for Getaway Eastern Catskills Campground - Castle Road. To inquire about potential discounts, seasonal rates, or any special packages, it is recommended to contact them directly using the provided phone numbers: (617) 914-0021 or mobile +1 617-914-0021. Additionally, searching online for "Getaway Eastern Catskills Campground - Castle Road" on booking platforms like AirBnB or their official website (if available) might provide more information about pricing, availability, and any ongoing promotions. Given the reported issues with responsiveness, it might be prudent to try both phone and online channels for inquiries and booking.
Making an Informed Choice for Your Catskills Getaway: Getaway Eastern Catskills Campground - Castle Road offers a unique cabin-based "camping near me" experience in a beautiful region with access to outdoor activities and local towns. However, potential guests should carefully consider the reported issues with insects, potential cleanliness problems, and the significant concern regarding unresponsive staff. If these drawbacks are manageable for your travel style, the location and the opportunity for a different type of camping experience might still be appealing. Thoroughly researching and potentially contacting the campground directly for clarification on these issues is advisable before making a reservation.

Getaway Eastern Catskills Campground - Castle Road Reviews
This is my second stay with Getaway House (stayed in NH prior). I really enjoyed this one more as there was significantly more things to do and see. I was placed in a handicap house that I did not want , so I did feel morally wrong. Besides that , the only things I disliked was that the screen door was not flush with the door frame so insects would crawl under the door if we left it open (wolf spiders, mosquitoes, moths) and the previous people SMOKED inside and outside the house. The inside smelled horrible of cigarettes and there were cigarette butts all around the fire pit. We had a good area away from people and faced the woods. It was pleasant driving (at most) 45 minutes away to do more hiking and see other towns in the vicinity. Absolutely would go back here again!
Jul 27, 2024 · AlyssiaIt’s really nice here, easily a 4-star review apart from the fact that staff were completely unresponsive via email/AirBnB. I emailed with a question prior to our arrival - no response. Sent another email as soon as we got there - no response. Absolutely zero responses for the entire time throughout our stay, despite an automated email encouraging us to get in touch if we had any questions!! What on Earth? Really bad customer service, which was a huge shame to experience.Otherwise, great place as long as you don’t mind some huge bugs sharing the cabin with you. The bugs were a little unnerving but the location is in the middle of the woods so it’s to be expected. Also, a bit tacky to charge for every single extra in the cabin. We brought our own food etc though so were fine.If you can somehow get the staff to respond to any questions you might have, or have none, then you’ll probably have a great time here for a night, but I don’t think I’d stay for more than one.
Oct 10, 2023 · Lucy InTheSkySo refreshing! Good destination to have a little break from work or city life. The cabin was clean and nice. Very calming, a bit eerie at night. I just wish they improve the stove since it’s a bit complicated to use. Also they charged everything: the coffee, tea, smores, that I think should be free and included since the price of the room is already expensive lol.
Sep 25, 2023 · Evita Fajiratur RohmahWe had enough amazing experience with the Getaway camping site!!Upon arrival the place was beautifully clean! They have everything set up on site so you don’t really need to bring along a lot of things! They even had marshmallows and skewers on site!We took the DIY kit as we wanted to have a bigger tent, if you don’t need a lot of space I would recommend taking the full package.Staff was very friendly and they replied in every text message I sang them even at 2 in the morning!Thank you Getaway for creating a beautiful experience for my family!!
Aug 24, 2022 · Y SchiffMy boyfriend and I spent 3 nights at Getaway last week and didn't want to come home. The cabins at Catskills West were spread out so we had a lot of privacy. We loved how quiet it was.As we were walking around we noticed that not all cabins were built exactly the same. Just like a hotel, not all rooms are exactly the same, so don't be surprised if your cabin doesn't look exactly like what you saw on social media or even on Getaway's website. You do get that nice giant window looking out into the woods next to the bed, but you might not get a small window at the foot of your bed. We had an air conditioner there, but we had plenty of windows around the cabin. We usually go camping in the Fall, so this was a nice change to have our own private bathroom in our cabin. Our cabin was clean but there were big old webs on the ceiling sides and corners. It didn't bother us but I was surprised no one bothered to clean them. We were in the woods so I'm not complaining, but just letting others know so they're not surprised if they see it.The team at Getaway are super responsive, friendly, and helpful. Great customer service really made our trip a memorable getaway.TIP #1: The dry flush cartridge for the bathrooms are supposed to give you 15 flushes, but in our experience, sometimes we only had about 10. Flush conservatively. However, the staff changes the cartridge daily and there are portables to use near the entrance if needed.TIP #2: Our hot water tank only held 10 gallons of hot water before it is refilled, so keep that in mind when you are showering. It sounded like this varies between outposts, so if this is a concern, I suggest finding out ahead of time.TIP #3: Purchase their package deal for a more affordable stay. Their regular price is too expensive for what you get. We purchased 3 nights and had just enough time to hike a short trail to Kaaterskill falls, pick up fresh donuts from a nearby town, and just enjoy the cabin and our surroundings at a very slow pace. 2 nights would've felt rushed for us.I already recommended this place to all of my friends as we had a great experience. I am definitely coming back and will explore other outposts.
