Camp Everglades (BSA) Introduce
For those in Florida and beyond seeking a "camping near me" experience with a strong connection to the Scouting community and the unique environment of the Everglades, Camp Everglades (BSA) in Homestead presents a noteworthy option. Located at 28400 SW 408 Street, Homestead, FL 33034, USA, this campground, affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), offers a potentially enriching and engaging outdoor experience, particularly for Scouts, their families, and those involved in BSA programs like Wood Badge. They can be reached at (305) 364-0020 or +1 305-364-0020 for inquiries and reservations.
Based on the limited but enthusiastic feedback from visitors, Camp Everglades (BSA) holds a special significance for those involved in Scouting. One review from December 2024 mentions a guided tour of the Everglades that briefly stopped at the camp's entrance. The fact that the visitors, who are deeply involved in Scouting as parents and Wood Badge scouters, were excited to see Camp Everglades "right in the middle of the National Park" speaks volumes about its location and its importance within the Scouting community. Even a glimpse of the entrance gate was a meaningful experience for them, highlighting the camp's presence within this iconic natural area.
Another review explicitly describes Camp Everglades as a "fantastic campground" where the reviewer had a "wonderful time at Woodbadge." Wood Badge is a premier leadership development program for adult leaders in the BSA, indicating that Camp Everglades serves as a venue for significant Scouting activities and training. This suggests that the campground is equipped to handle group camping and potentially offers facilities suitable for educational and leadership development programs.
Given its affiliation with the Boy Scouts of America and its location near Everglades National Park, the environment surrounding Camp Everglades is likely to be characterized by the unique subtropical wetlands of South Florida. This could include diverse ecosystems such as sawgrass prairies, mangrove forests, and hardwood hammocks, offering opportunities for nature observation and environmental education. The proximity to Everglades National Park suggests that campers at Camp Everglades may have convenient access to explore the park's vast wilderness and its diverse flora and fauna.
While specific details about the services and features of Camp Everglades (BSA) are somewhat limited in the provided reviews, we can infer some likely offerings based on its nature as a BSA camp and its use for programs like Wood Badge. Campgrounds associated with Scouting often provide group camping areas, tent sites, and possibly some basic facilities such as restrooms, showers, and potentially a dining hall or communal gathering spaces. Given its role in leadership training, Camp Everglades might also have program-specific facilities like training areas, meeting rooms, or outdoor activity spaces.
The emphasis on Wood Badge suggests that the camp is equipped to support larger groups and potentially offers resources for outdoor education and leadership development activities. This could include features like campfire circles, nature trails, and areas suitable for team-building exercises. The "fantastic campground" comment implies that the basic camping infrastructure is well-maintained and conducive to a positive outdoor experience.
Considering its location near Everglades National Park, Camp Everglades likely provides opportunities for campers to engage with the natural environment. This could include hiking, nature walks, birdwatching, and learning about the unique ecology of the Everglades. Depending on the camp's specific programs and facilities, there might also be opportunities for activities like canoeing or kayaking in nearby waterways, allowing for a more immersive exploration of the Everglades ecosystem.
Promotional information is not explicitly present in the reviews. However, the very existence of Camp Everglades as a BSA facility within close proximity to a national park serves as a significant draw for the Scouting community. For local BSA troops, leaders, and families, it likely represents a prime location for camping trips, leadership training events, and opportunities to experience the natural wonders of the Everglades. The camp might also host specific Scouting events or programs throughout the year, which could serve as promotional opportunities within the BSA network.
For individuals or groups not directly affiliated with BSA, access to camping at Camp Everglades might be more limited or require specific arrangements. It would be advisable to contact the camp directly using the provided phone numbers to inquire about availability, reservation policies, and whether they accommodate non-BSA groups or individuals. Understanding the camp's policies regarding public access is crucial for those outside the Scouting organization who might be interested in camping at this unique location.
In conclusion, Camp Everglades (BSA) in Homestead, Florida, offers a "camping near me" experience deeply intertwined with the Boy Scouts of America and the remarkable environment of the Everglades. Its location near Everglades National Park provides a unique setting for outdoor activities and environmental learning. While specific details about all amenities and public access policies require direct inquiry, the positive feedback from Wood Badge participants and the excitement of Scouting families at seeing the camp highlight its significance within the BSA community. For local Scout troops and leaders, Camp Everglades likely serves as a valuable resource for camping trips, leadership training, and exploring the natural wonders of the Florida Everglades.

Camp Everglades (BSA) Reviews
We visited on a late Thursday afternoon in Dec 2024. We were on a guided tour for the Everglades and saw the sign for the camp and asked to stop real quick so we could take a quick picture. All 3 of our children are in scouts and my wife and I are both wood badge scouters. So it was really cool to see Camp Everglades right in the middle of the National Park. Even if it was only the entrance gate.
