Long Pine Key Campground

Homestead, FL 33034, USA

4.0
I have stayed at both campgrounds in the Everglades and this was by far the best. The sites are not big but they seem very private because of all the natural barriers. The staff was very friendly and helpful. In my opinion, this campground is closer to some of the best hikes. While the mosquitoes are still present they are not as bad as they are in the other campground. Would stay here again. - Bob Tee

Long Pine Key Campground Introduce

Looking for exceptional "camping near me" that combines natural beauty with convenient access to Everglades adventures? Long Pine Key Campground, situated in Homestead, Florida, within close proximity to Everglades National Park, offers a fantastic option for local campers seeking an immersive outdoor experience. Based on customer reviews and general knowledge of the area, this campground stands out for its well-maintained sites, friendly staff, and strategic location for exploring the wonders of the Everglades.

The Tranquil Environment of Long Pine Key Campground:

Long Pine Key Campground benefits from its location near the entrance of Everglades National Park, providing easy access to the park's diverse ecosystems. While not directly within the Outstanding Florida Water like Camp Lonesome, it serves as an excellent basecamp for exploring these unique environments. The campground itself is characterized by its natural surroundings, offering a blend of pine rocklands – a globally imperiled habitat unique to South Florida – and the transitional zones leading into the heart of the Everglades. This means campers can expect a landscape featuring pine trees, saw palmetto, and diverse undergrowth, providing a different feel compared to the more open marshlands deeper within the park.

One of the standout features mentioned by reviewers is the sense of privacy offered by the campsites. Despite not being overly large, the presence of "natural barriers" between sites, likely consisting of native vegetation, enhances the feeling of seclusion and allows campers to enjoy a more intimate connection with nature. This thoughtful layout contributes to a more peaceful and enjoyable camping experience.

While the Everglades is known for its insect population, particularly mosquitoes, one reviewer noted that the mosquito levels at Long Pine Key were "not as bad" compared to other campgrounds in the area. This suggests that the specific environment around Long Pine Key might offer some relative relief, although it's always advisable to come prepared with insect repellent, especially during warmer and wetter months.

The campground's proximity to Homestead also offers a balance between natural immersion and access to essential amenities and services outside the park, making it a convenient choice for local campers.

This makes it an ideal base for those looking to explore the park's trails and experience its diverse landscapes on foot. Researching hiking trails in the Homestead entrance area of Everglades National Park will reveal the specific options nearby.
  • Sense of Privacy: The natural barriers between campsites contribute to a greater sense of privacy, allowing campers to feel more secluded and enjoy a more personal connection with nature.
  • Manageable Bug Levels (Relatively): While bugs are a reality in the Everglades, the indication that they are "not as bad" at Long Pine Key compared to other areas might be a significant draw for those concerned about insect encounters.
  • Helpful Staff: The consistently positive feedback regarding the staff suggests a well-managed campground where campers can expect assistance and a welcoming atmosphere.
